Dear All,
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

For my situation:
-> 60% for data plan & 40% for phone call.
-> Monthly data usage around 800MB~900MB.
-> Phone call not that concern, as I only call out if really urgent..
-> Prefer postpaid with data plan + 2 sub-line (no need data plan). Wish to get around rm40~70 for my principle line, then rm15 x2 for both sub-line. Hopefully can remain around rm100 (or less) phone bill for every month..  sweat.gif
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Hopefully can hear from you all soon. Many Thanks..  thumbup.gif

maxis, all postpaid call+data plan will charge u once u exceed the quota.
but u said ur usage around 900mb only?

then, the share credit is only applicable for principal of value plus 80/150/250/500.
others, cannot share.

for celcom, NO share credit benefits.

(we talking about celcom&maxis personal/individual plan here. so pls ignore biz/corporate plan)

Added on October 26, 2012, 11:55 amhow about call & sms between family lines?
make a lot of call & sms? or just so-so / urgent only too?

Thanks Erry for your reply..  thumbup.gif

Yes, my data plan can be lesser than 900mb. Can be 500MB~600MB if really control myself..  sweat.gif

1st family line is to my wife, sure a lot of call & sms.. tongue.gif
2nd family line is to mum, call is so so, it is for her to have mobile phone for convenient..  sweat.gif

Cheers..  thumbup.gif

ur welcome.

well me & my wife not call a lot. sms also almost 0 (coz using whatsapp hehe).

i'm asking bcoz u said u only call if urgent.

so seems maxis talkmore28 is the best for u.
but, the supp line for this plan is no free call, just 20% discount sweat.gif

go for celcom lah.
min is 40 + 38 (1gb) + 15 + 15 = 108/month.

coz maxis the cheapest to share credit is 50 + 48 (1gb) + 30 + 30 = 158/month (110 shared)

I plan to change to Umobile and get the RM28 package with internet.
But however, am afraid if one day while using it and i'll change my mind to use back Digi.
Heard that they're really bad in closing account.
Close account already still will continue billing until you send them police report
*
in this case, port from ur digi to umobile prepaid, not postpaid.
topup rm30, subscribe for u28 (500mb with 100mins & 30sms).
so after 1 month if u not satisfied with umobile coverage and quality, its easy to port back to digi or other telco ~
if u satisfied, then continue or upgrade to postpaid.

Dear Erry, thanks for your advice.

Base on your recommendation on Celcom package:
40 + 38 (1gb) + 15 + 15 = 108/month
-> Pro: Flat rate to all network
-> Pro: Data line speed will drop after quota reach
-> Pro: Cheapest sub-line
-> Cons: No offer on telesales side
-> Cons: Might be tie with contract

But if try to compare apple to apple (almost apple.. tongue.gif), Maxis have this package "Internet Value Plus":
RM50 (1.5gb) + 30 + 30 = 110/month
-> Pro: If register thru Maxis telesales, first 6 months will deduct rm10 (principle) + 20 (Sub-line x2). Total will be RM40+20+20 = 80/month
-> Pro: Non contract
-> Pro: Can share credit among the sub-line
-> Cons: No free call & free sms
-> Cons: Chargeable once data line over quota

RM2 difference only if don't have Maxis telesales offer.. sad.gif
What is your opinion on both telco pro & cons?
- Network coverage & line quality?
- 3G performance?
- Customer service quality?
- Any other concern?
Many Thanks..  notworthy.gif
*
ur welcome clkok.

celcom package no contract at all, unless u taking a device/phone.

if u can get maxis rebate rm30 for 1st 6 months, then go for maxis lah notworthy.gif
do note that plan is excluding ur usage of call & sms.

hi all,

1) my prepaids (maxis HOTLINK + celcom UOX) will be expired next year. Instead of converting to postpaid, is there any other way to keep the number and 'prepaid' type afterwards? (im not going to any service provider yet to ask, just google around)

2) if there no solution for above, is there any prepaid plan that you wanna recommended?
I'm lite usage. RM10 maybe for a week or 2 or even 1 month cant finish  nod.gif

thanks in advance  biggrin.gif
*
ur hotlink, is it youth club?

if yes, actually both ur hotlink yc and celcom uox is not expired at all, its just the service plan thats expired.
both will be automatically convert to normal prepaid, so yes, u can keep the number as prepaid.

only, the validity of airtime/credit after this is based on ur reload/topup amount, or based on ur yearly subscribtion fee (which is, a waste for me, unless, u staying oversea).

the cheapest to make expiry date longer, is port to umobile.
coz umobile validity is 3x top-up amount. rm10 is for 30days, rm30 for 90 days, rm50 for 150 days, or rm100 for 300days.

http://www.u.com.my/prepaid/free_sms_and_calls - look at 3x longer credit validity

prepaid termination date is usually 90 days after expiry date.
of coz, within that time, u can still receive call & sms.
but usually we will, at least, make a call & sms within 90 days.
so by default will top-up the credit, even for just rm5 laugh.gif

my contract with digi gonna end soon. Plan to mnp to other telco.

I mainly use my phone for data, abit of voice and sms. My parents are supp under me now. For them it's only voice and sms.

If it's cheap then my wife and my bro can consider supp under me too. They also mainly use phone for data with abit of voice and sms.

Any suggestion? thanks.
*
if principal main is data and supp line is voice & sms, better just stick with digi.

u = digi smart plan (48/68/88)
ur parents = digi postpaid plus family (28)
ur wife & bro = digi smart family (28)

or maxis;
u = surfmore (50/75)
ur parents = family plus 30
ur wife & bro = value plus internet 30 supp

do note maxis will charge once reach quota sweat.gif

I am using Digi prepaid and have about RM300 credits. I would like to get a phone + package bundle offered my Digi / Maxis / Celcom. Is there any way I can:

1) Keep the same number and contact list
2) Transfer my RM300 value to a new prepaid credit or use it to offset a postpaid charge?

Thank you.
*
1. contact list can store to gmail account (just google how to with your current phone model). example old sony ericsson can sync to gmail using MyPhoneExplorer software. later in new phone just sync back the contact list using same gmail account.

2. if, u port from prepaid to postpaid with same telco (in ur case, digi), then ur credit will be credited back in ur postpaid bill, later. so can consider to offset postpaid bill, but not postpaid upfront charges.

if u port to maxis/celcom, u need to finished the credit 1st, either use it or sell/transfer it to other's digi prepaid.

Guys, wanna ask something..

So I just get myself a new no, apparently an UOX prepaid no..

but after i check on xpax website, i think xpax have better rates..

Xpax = SMS 1cent (same network), 5cent (others)
Voice 28cent for 10minutes (same network), for 5 minutes (others).

While UOX rates..

UOX = SMS 2cent (same network), 8cent (others)
Voice 28cent for 3minutes (all networks)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but apart from the longer expiry date, what is the benefits of UOX compared to Xpax?
*
u are not wrong.
only previous uox (plan before 23/4/12) have benefits like new xpax.

other than longer expiry date, uox can enjoy free voice calls, video calls, SMS and MMS to the same network valid between 8pm and 8am daily with a minimum usage of RM3 daily ~

viable?

yes possible.

change supp line directly to prepaid 1st (its better if within same telco. later u can port), then terminate the main line.

no, not 'will get' new number doh.gif

its up to you either want to get new number or not. its not will get sweat.gif
u can still use ur same old number and just port to other telco.
no need for new number.

other calls i do also around that time, but not much.

whats the process required for porting out from Celcom supp line?
can i directly port over after i clear the bills under my number?
*
supp line is by default registered under principal name.

if u want to port out from supp line, need to do transfer ownership.
but usually transfer ownership on postpaid got charges.

free way but takes a little bit time is:
1. ask ur dad to convert ur num to prepaid xpax. u'll get new simcard.
2. once ur prepaid is activated, then do transfer ownership.
3. once confirmed the num is under ur name, then u can do whatever u like ~

Never used prepaid before, how to get a number? Need to register? Anyshop can or go U mobile better?
*
now all prepaid number must register to ur mykad/passport.
if u already have a mobile number (even postpaid) now then u can just port to umobile prepaid. no need to get a new number.

umobile main service center is inside times square. can port or buy new number there.

Can anyone suggest me me the best prepaid plan for usage rm50 a month, no data plan needed , is the umobile prepaid 28 is the best?
*
u want a prepaid of usage rm50/month without data plan, then go for celcom xpax.
its 28sen for 10mins to celcom or 5 mins to others, 1sen sms to celcom & 5sen sms to others.

see the rates here - http://www.xpax.com.my/newplan.php

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

as capoi replied, umobile rm28 already included data.

if dont want data plan then no need to subscribe for it. can just use normal umobile prepaid.
18sen/min to all network, 3sen sms to umobile & 8sen sms to others.
the advantages is u get free 60mins call & free sms to umobile everyday (terms apply)

see the rates here - http://www.u.com.my/prepaid/free_sms_and_calls

I just bought my first smartphone so i am not familiar with data plan. Need some recommendation.

If i use internet for twitter, facebook, whatsapp, viber and a little google search sometimes, how much of internet usage i need?

50mb per day?
100mb per day?
100mb per week?

another question is can android phone use BIS plan? i'm hotlink user.
thanks smile.gif
*
different people different usage of data.

btw, if u planning to subcribe to hotlink bis rm20 and use it on android, DONT!

bcoz data usage in other than official RIM (blackberry) app will be charged PAYU.

so in easy word, for hotlink, no, cant use BIS plan in android phone.

for others telco is ok. but then still not worth it.
example is celcom xpax. even the blackberry plan is only rm25 but free data only 250mb.
so rm25 for 250mb is such a waste (compare to umobile postpaid rm28 1gb, or celcom postpaid rm38 1gb).
but if use bbm, official RIM twitter, fb, gmail then its a good deal, less than 90sen/day (can send unlimited msg in bbm).

QUOTE(help me lah @ Nov 16 2012, 04:40 PM)
Hi there,

I've got a question on whether postpaid and prepaid is better. I used to think postpaid has the most value for money, but am starting to think otherwise. For instance, U Mobile...

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Sounds less beneficial at first with the lower data and free sms, but when you think about it if you are a light user...in a month let's say I use 60mins of call and 20sms...I get a roll over of 40 mins calls and 10 sms-es. So if I topped up RM 28 for 1st month and I stay within the "free calls n sms" and at the end of 30days, I still have a balance of RM 28 in my credit untouched which after top up another RM 28 for next month I will have a credit of RM 56 to spare...betul kah?

Digi also have a sweet sounding prepaid deal...they even roll over data until 2GB max! What does the sifus think of prepaid and postpaid value-for-money? =)

Thank you all!
*
u are wrong. not rm56. refer capoi replies:
QUOTE(capoi @ Nov 16 2012, 11:28 PM)
What I understand for prepaid user, we need to topup rm30 and rm28 will deduct from account. Whats left from account is rm2 with 500mb internet, 100minute call n 30sms. No more rm28 from account. We can carry forward call time and sms for next month but still have limit. This prepaid really suit for light internet user and at same time not make much call like me.
*
yes. topup rm30, deduct rm28, only left rm2 to use. after finished the free mins & sms, will be deducted from that rm2.

digi prepaid which can roll over data till 2GB is prepaid smart plan.
if u think u only make call for 60mins/month, go for it.
if call is about 100mins/month, go for umobile. the diff is umobile less rm2 and also less 100mb quota.

Finally! I didn't know where to post questions about things like these I ended up looking through every sub forum, unrelated ones at that -.- ah well..

I have questions! Hope you guys can help me with this notworthy.gif

Here's the situation: I'll be heading to china (guangzhou) for a week, and I need a prepaid number where I could call/text and twitter too. I'm a UMobile prepaid user and apparently international roaming is not available yet. So I'm thinking of getting a second number since I'm gonna buy a second phone anyway once I got back from there. This second number will probably be used as a primary number since my friends and associates are mostly maxis user, therefore I'll just get a hotlink number. I'm a student staying around cyberjaya, kajang, kl, sometimes sabah.

What I want to know is which hotlink plan suits me? Supposedly I buy the hotlink new number starter pack, is it a hotlink 5 or hotlink minimum balance thingy plan inside? What plan should I subscribe to? Imma be a student for another 2++ years, so should I get the youth club plan? If I do can I still get the same rate after I graduate? Oh and, about the roaming thingy I won't have to go to maxis center to activate/register the service, yeah? But what do I have to do though to turn on the roaming service, dial *120* then it turned on lah? Like that is it? Then how much a week for data (mostly for twitter/whatsapp/fbmaybe) ?  rclxub.gif I am so confused! cry.gif

Please advice! icon_question.gif  notworthy.gif
*
1. if u want to go to other country for a week and need data plan, use that country prepaid number. thats the cheapest!

coz data roaming is not cheap. the 'cheapest' for malaysia telco is rm32/day and that is for postpaid user.
if prepaid a-la-carte, around rm5/mb sweat.gif

2. if u plan to use hotlink as ur 2nd num, go for campus pack (newer version of youth club). max age is 24 years old.

yes roaming charges is expensive.

have u use roaming before?
make call is not cheap. answering call also will be charged. do u really want it?
luckily receive sms is free. but reply sms back to malaysia will cost u around rm1/sms.
so use for roaming call n sms is not recommended, let alone data ~

My mother is on celcom postpaid exec 50 ( i knoww i knowwwww it's a really old, ancient, almost extinct plan lol).
Her monthly bill is around rm60-rm80

What she needs are just unlimited calls to all networks and basic internet, and nothing else.
Not thinking of changing telco, just a move to another plan within celcom.
First gold 80 is excellent, but i think it is a waste since she doesnt need that much data, even 1gb per month is already a lot to her, coz she is using wifi at home also at work, she only needs data plan when she is outside
Really appreciate the input from you guys here, on what is the best plan for her needs. Thanks.

if u using digi/maxis/umobile postpaid with unlimited call plan, just change ur mom's number to your IC and make her as your supp line.

digi is rm48 (actually rm38, but principal need to add rm10), maxis rm48, umobile rm50

rm30 should go to umobile. topup rm30/month and free 1gb high speed internet + 2gb basic. all rm30 can use to make call/sms or, buy another high speed data plan.
