Got anyone here allergic to guinea pigs? Not sure if its a common thing or not, but if after I cuddle my piggies, I will get small red welts all over my arm. I notice especially if I contact with any of their pee or even if they lick me, I get welts immediately. My eyes also itch if I play with them too long. Funny thing is I am not allergic to any of my other pet gerbils, hamsters or rabbits, just the guinea pigs.

Does the welts look as if lots of mosquitoes has just bitten you? Like thousands of welts on your skin? I had this problem too but it wasnt due of my piggies.. It was my sugar glider.. Generally when their nails, are long and sharp.. poking tru the skin or contact with it will result to welts.. Washing it with water will calm it down and later subdue.. Im not sure about the eyes tho =x never gotten that before.. perhaps you might want to see a doctor if these happens regularly.. I know my GP sometimes have dirty nails coz they like to play with their poo in the litter pan!  vmad.gif their nails will have a blackened tip.. so thats why i trim it every week now >< Your GP nails trimmed yet? Their nails sometimes carry germs >< cant avoid it~ only thing is to keep it trimmed..
*
I got the same problem too, and I found that is caused by Huahua rclxub.gif rclxub.gif
bcoz I dun have any allergic comes up when I pet xiaomian, those welts are all over my neck, leg and arm cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Not thousands of welts on the skin, haha... is like 5 or 6 welts on each arm, bigger size than mosquito bite. It happen if my GP got a bit of pee stain on their fur, and I cuddle them, or if they lick me. I did see a doctor before, that time was the most terrible allergy to my GP, my GP kiss my mouth, and the next day I got hives all over my body.
*
OIC~ my daughter has some itchyness before (which i think was hives too).. we just put lavendar oil on it.. i just so happened to have it.. it calmed down really good. But i think if the welts dissapear a few hours later.. then its something that is not to be too alarmed off hehee.

chabby...regarding the cage that u build by urself using box...is it ok for GP? from my research... that kind of cage is not suitable for GP... Please correct me if im wrong...im still learning tho... icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway chabby..your GP poison me...hehehe...so cute... rclxm9.gif

as sugar had said...it's a perfect air ventilation...and the cardboard box is just a temporary one at my bf room...plus..even the one at my place is made out of hard board/ mounting board. Nubby only chew on the board when he sees something sticking out of the smooth board... so far there was no hole..no scratching...no tearing...he's been good...i think it's batter then the metal cages because gp and climb and the are chewers...it's bad for them if they chew the metal cage...anyways..lol nubby is a very good boy....other then his curiousness and his habbit of running all around the room, he's fine...and happy...heheheh

Chabby's enclosure for nubby is doable.. it is open concept.. 100% proper air ventilation.. there is nothing wrong with it.. i am also sure chabby will need to monitor the surroundings if nubby starts digging or chewing any parts of it.. i think she did mentioned before, this is a temp cage.. besides nubby is being pampered so much by chabby lols~

*
lol i monitor him like 12hr a day...or more i think lol coz i'm always with him...ahahha he's just beside my bed....so no choice but to watch him..ahhahaha he's supper pampered isnt he...=_="

I will get watery eyes when spend some time with them and then start to have watery nose too.. if still continue then I will start to have nausea...i think i also got alergic to their fur...When brought them to my bf place from Setapak to Kelana Jaya in that journey they are enjoying but i am the one suffering...even their pee also can makes me feel sick...so that is why i always clean the cage when I can see the pee patch...

Piggies are getting huge now...more chubby from day to day and my housemate also love them so much...buy them vege...hahaha she just likes to sit while watching tv and tell them stop fighting (if got) cos the cage in the living area.I might think of the BBQ fence cage...look very neat indeed.

Thanks. Well, I'm not so remember how much do I spend for each grill but for the whole cage, I spend around RM70 including the fleece and the chloroplast. We did some adjustment to the cage now. The grill is inside the chloroplast now. There is no need for us to clip on the grill. They are too naughty. Keep on dragging the fleece and hide underneath. =.=!
