Yes square room is not ideal, but hey if you have no other choice in your house then just make do with the room first.

I see, nola, I had options of choosing between this tv or a projector, but then I realised projector needs darker area right, and mine is in the living room, so, the tv should be a much wiser choice. And yes, this tv is magnificent. I watched avatar and avengers in 2d, and believe me, I was mesmerised. did you caibrate your tv? I didn't
*
With a nice TV it is worthwhile to get it calibrated to get the best performance out of it.

After all you already paid 16k for it, might as well spend a few hundred more to make sure your TV is at its best.

Thank you.I still need to decide to take htib or diy home theater.Budget only 2k
*
For a budget of 2k there are very limited options for DIY, unless maybe you consider 2nd hand.

So perhaps HTIB is the way to go.

why is it so ? is it because the player has been programmed not like other stand alone dvd /bluray players?

how about the speakers ? can hook it up to other avr unit ? thanks
*
To connect to an AVR your player must have the necessary outputs (e.g. HDMI out or analog out) plus also the setting to stream out the audio/video to an AVR. Does your Sony BDV-E290 have such output and setting?

As for the speakers it depends on the method of connecting your speakers. Normally for HTIB set like yours the speakers use a special connector which doesn't fit normal AVR.

the sony e290 player has 1 hdmi output but not sure about setting to stream out the audio/video to avr. u're rite that the speakers have special connector to the player. question, can I cut the connector and use the loose end wire to connect it to avr ? anyone tried this before ? tq
*
Your HDMI output is mainly for video (to connect to TV). Check your manual if it can stream audio/video to AVR.

plan to upgrade my sony S190 to better player, but I found most of the BD player has only one HDMI output, as we know HDMI carries both video and HD audio, then how should I connect player to amp and TV?
*
U connect player to amp using HDMI and amp to TV also using HDMI (for this part amp only sends the video to TV, amp itself will process and output the audio to the speakers).

Just want to share the following facts with you guys:

1. Bought a NAD T748 AV receiver in October 2011, and set up for use in December 2011.

2. T748 stopped working in January 2013, sent back for repair. Learned that it is 2-years warranty in Singapore for NAD products but in Malaysia it's only 1-year.

3. As of today after more than 5 months, the technician still has no fxxxing idea as to the cost of parts and repair, when parts will be available, and when the repair can be done.
*
Maybe try writing to NAD UK to complain about the situation?

front wall didnt do it but maybe in future for now the current setting is ok for me.

U can consider doing the front wall as a next step. It's supposed to help as well.

Say, what kind of adhesive did you use to stick the black velvet to your wall?

With 8 feet, you need about 80" to 90" screen to give you field of view of 40-45 degrees...perfect for movies.
*
Wow 40-45 FOV is very wide. But it's up to individual preference.
