Never used these smartphone before so probably a dumb question. When you hook up the wifi and access Internet, what about virus? Do you have to install 3rd party antivirus programs etc just like normal pc?

Most of the viruses out there are created for windows OS. Very unlikely it will affect our phones which is under Symbian OS. But there are viruses for Symbian. All you have to do is to be careful on which website you surf & make sure you do not accept unknown files via bluetooth (most of the viruses for symbian spread via bluetooth AFAIK)

Thanks.

So you are saying these Nokia E series phone are basically naked. And the only defense is common sense and keeping finger crossed?

Yes. But if you feel that it is always better to be safe than sorry, then you may actually install any free & reputable AV software. No harm with that. It is only that your phone will be slower than usual & most of the AV software needs frequent update (which means you need to get connected to the net often).

Now here is another dumb question of mine. I read that these phone can read Microsoft Words, Excel and PDF files etc. Do you have to install any special software before you can do so or do these phones come already pre-loaded with the necessary software to do so? Thanks.

boys and gals..

I accidentally found that we can reduce the annoying gap by simply nudging the E71 keypad upwards a little. This is what i do:

1. Lock the keypad (press Left-Key, *)
2. Hold the phone firmly, with both thumbs resting/pressing on keys
3. Push keypad upwards towards screen with your thumbs. Repeat as necessary.

With any luck, the gap is smaller now. Only downside is: the gap appears again after a while and the up-key on the D-pad sounds slightly "clicky" afterwards.

shocking.gif ru happy with the clicky sound now? I will not take that risk just to reduce the annoying gap. However I feel that the gap causes dust collection on our LCD.

actually the clicky sound is there even b4 u do this.. jus try to press the edge of every button.. some might not notice as it is very slight.. it is jus a guide to those who r annoy by the gap.. the gap is cause by gravity anyway.. slowly it will open up again..
