BlueKM, cufflinks are worn on shirts which have link cuffs, there are two types of link cuffs, either single or french/double:

the shirt on top is a french cuffed shirt while the bottom is a single..

It would seem that many gents here prefer unique / novelty cufflinks.

hmmm im not too big with the whole matching thing, i feel the best would be your tie/pocket square which compliments your cufflinks and not exactly be "matching"..

true, but matching means you can only wear THAT particular cufflink and THAT tie bar.. however if you know how colors/patterns can compliment each other, you will have hundred and one varieties..

I believe Jind86 is trying to describe things by AAAC standards where igents hate wearing accessories like pocket squares and ties that come in sets. Well, it's a no brainer of course. Throw it in and go. Good thing? I am skeptical.

While I do support and understand the igents' dislike for brainless matching set of cravat/tie + ps + fabric covered cufflinks (dressing up without effort, creativity nor any unique personal touches), an occasional matching set of cufflinks + tie bars is still fine by my book since the two precious metal/jewel accessories are mostly devoid of patterns and colours unlike tie + ps.

why do you keep mentioning this line? if you like wearing matching sets, go ahead im not stopping you, im just merely pointing out that if someone would to always buy and wear them, then they would not be mixing and matching which is going to limit the number of looks..

Added on April 11, 2009, 10:24 pmbtw i really like your dunhill mother of pearl cufflinks =)

no offence intended to anyone in this thread. after all, this thread is about showing off your cufflinks.

personally i like to purchase cufflink together with matching tie bar off the shelve if possible. this is due the fact that each cufflink is unique by itself it is quite impossible for me to find an almost matching tie bar elsewhere. however, not all cufflinks come with matching tie bars which turn out to be a headache for me. I know some may regard using tie bar is 'old school', but i am just loving the feeling of wearing it, especially the matching one. I even used solid silver collar stiffener (or collar stay) for all my dress shirts.

anyway, here are some of my personal collection to share with you all.

We have to agree to disagree with this statement. Men who let their ties flap around in the wind or while walking are not properly dressed. Unless of course, if they use tie tack or other invisible tie stays.
