Yeah, most of the courses offered in Curtin are accredited by BEM, but what I have heard is civil needs the accredition the most compared to other engineering courses.

Im currently in Curtin Sarawak , and you gotta make your own decision which one to choose.

I might have a little regret that I didn't choose nottingham, but I still gotta move on, halfway of first semester already. wink.gif Maybe its a wise decision to come here, nobody knows what will happen in next few years.

yea, its true that curtin's bechelor in mechanical engineering is accredited, but from what i heard(from the students thr), they keep changing lecturers, some of which are newly graduated themselves, which mean no experience at all in teaching...on the other hand, swinburne, which is not accredited, have a steady and well experienced lecturers, meaning better study experience for students.
what i mean here is, whats the point if we cant study well due to inexperience lecturer and probably failed our exam ? what's the use of BEM accredited or not at that time ? erm..get what i mean ?

Added on April 19, 2009, 12:53 amand one more thing, does it mean that if we cnt get BEM, we wont be able to get into other countries' board of engineering ? no, rite? but, its a problem anyway, coz i wont say that most of us will be willing to go to other country juz to get the BoE...juz my opinion

Added on April 19, 2009, 12:56 ambtw, the BEM was edited on july last year, maybe it will change this year ? dunno...

Monash is very the expensive..and i dont meet the entry requirements for ENG degree.. Monash requires 10 pts for A-levels..i only have 8 using my forecast..For Swinburne entry requirements is only 7,Curtin 9. So i just try my luck for Curtin since its only 1 pt lower.

Besides i would like to try living on campus. Monash is just near my house as i live in USJ.Quite sick and tired of wasting travelling time d..

I think Swinburne and Curtin will be about the same, as with Nottingham and Monash.
I think the tuition fee is about the same for they two as well, as for lecturers' strength, commitment etc.
The most important issue is probably the location, and perhaps whether which one has better links with industry (Oil and Gas) that can help you out to get into. Of course, you may not like O&G. smile.gif

For accreditation wise, I think it's NOT really important for mechanical graduates in MALAYSIA. There are A LOT of mechanical engineers out there that is not accredited and also a lot of employers that do not care about your accreditation status.

If you are capable enough, I don't think you will be turned down by companies for the reason of your degree not being accredited.

That being said, I do think Swinburne will not have any problem in gaining accreditation. For me, it's just that the accreditation has yet to come.

Btw, fyi this is the actual email from Swinburne marketing officer about their accreditation status.

Swinburne has gone through the MQA accreditation process sometime end of last year and from the positive feedback given by MQA, we are confident we’ll receive the accreditation status soon. Currently we are under interim accreditation from MQA.

Thank you.

Who cares about MQA accreditation?
If you want to be an anccredited engineer, i.e. using the Ir. title, what you should seek is BEM, not MQA.

BEM ACCREDITATION FOR SWINBURNE ENGINEERING PROGRAMS

Okay guys , Those who are concerned with accreditation status of Swinburne Engineering Degrees ,

These degrees are accreditated by both Engineers Australia and Board of Engineers Malaysia

Bachelor of Engineering ( Mechatronics and Robotics )
Bachelor of Engineering ( Electronics and Computer Systems )

and all of those who are concerned with the status of rest of the Engineering degrees recognition with BEM , Board of Engineers Malaysia ,

This is the official reply from the Dean/Chief Executive of Swinburne University of Technology , Sarawak

Engineers Malaysia only gives professional accreditation to programs after the first group/batch has graduated. That accreditation will occur for the newer programs in October this year (2010). In the meantime, all of our degrees are accredited in Australia and have been accredited by Engineers Australia and are recognized all over the world. There is absolutely no doubt that Engineers Malaysia will add their accreditation for the newer programs as well. Both Australia and Malaysia are signatories to the Washington Accord on Engineering qualifications and therefore have reciprocal recognition.

Why don't you give Monash a call? I guess they are able to explain more detailed and clearly than us

Besides the accreditation, you should also check how many PhD lecturers does Swinburne and Curtin has. It is an important criteria as it shows how professional is the university.
