QUOTE(BLOODY-D;6603749) It's finally there. Three months after the launch and over a month after our brief hands-on look, HP's Pavilion dv2 notebook has become available from the official HP online store. This system is one of a kind, treading the gray area between netbook and ultra-portable laptop with a high-res display, a single-core AMD processor, decent integrated graphics, and a thin-and-light form factor. Bad news if you had $700 saved up for the launch, though: the dv2 starts at $749.99 right now, despite HP telling everyone it would cost 50 bucks less in January.
Still, the dv2 has a nice mix of hardware for the price and size. The base config includes a 12.1" 1280x800 display, a 1.6GHz AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor, 4GB of DDR2 RAM (no, really), Mobility Radeon HD 3410 integrated graphics with HDMI output, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a six-cell battery, and an external DVD burner. No eight-year-old operating systems here, either: the dv2 comes with a full-fledged copy of Windows Vista Home Premium x64.
The single-core CPU may seem a bit light next to all that nice hardware, but it should perform much better than a similarly clocked Atom—and it still has a tight 15W thermal envelope. The dv2 is more about mobility than number-crunching power, anyway. HP notes that the laptop weighs only 3.95 lbs=1.3 kilos, is just 0.9-1.3" thick=2.3-3.3 centimeters, and features a "lustrous magnesium-aluminum alloy casing." HP dv2 netbook-notebook hybrid goes up for sale at $750 - The Tech Report http://forums.vr-zone.com/news-around-the-...sale-750-a.html

LYN front page news says it starts at RM2400.
My Twitter has a little bit of my insight for this notebook. But those comments were written under the assumption that it was going to be ~RM3000. At 2400 it's okay.

QUOTE(lamdogkc @ Apr 9 2009, 12:11 AM) and i'm quite sure i've read somewhere that it's 1.8kg and not using magnesium alloy construction. the casing looks very plastic with very curvy design. looks more like plastics than mag alloy.

the weight is not taken into account the external dvd/bluray and also, don't know whether external dvd is optional buy, but quite sure external bluray should be an optional buy

hmm i think dv2 would not really fit into the netbook category maybe something like a slower processor with some gaming capabilities such as some of the old dual core 12" notebooks it uses a built in graphic but can be upgraded with a 512mb ati card i really wonder how's the speed and performance of this one

HP is not the 1 who built a GC in an netbook. infact ASUS did it too. now the question is... with an extra hot AMD proceesor and a 512MB dedicated GC. how hot it can be? this is the major concern i had in mind when i saw it.

QUOTE(seydee @ Apr 9 2009, 11:17 AM) The external drive is included. even when it's included, i have to say, a single core notebook/netbook with 12" screen at 1.8kg? that's quite heavy for a 12 incher

Athlon Neo is nowhere comparable to the power output and performance of its hotter dual core cousins. And if you take heat into consideration, Turion notebooks are only as hot as Apple notebooks. Mmm, no. Actually cooler. QUOTE(X.E.D @ Apr 10 2009, 12:33 AM) Wow, so the RM2400 model plays Left 4 Dead. Dream harder. Although this subnotebook comes with an ATI chip, it falls quite a distance short of the ATI 3200 or 3450 found on the CQ40 series. And the CPU is single core at that, at much slower speed. See benchmark above. So bottom line, no Left 4 Dead. It might be sufficient to run Doom 3 though.

People get away with it playing on a Pentium 4 and Geforce FX 5200. Previously when source was single-threaded (dual core NOT used), I played TF2 on my 780G, all high (w/o AA). So it's possible.
