QUOTE(al3p @ Oct 1 2011, 12:52 PM) Hi all. Need some help. Just bought the new MBP with lion pre installed and I want to upgrade my hdd to ssd. Since the new MBP didn't come with any installation dvd, I wonder how do i upgrade my hdd and keeping my existing OS? Can i just back up to time machine and then copy everything to the freshly installed ssd? Cheers. use CCC. Clone your HDD to the SSD. Swap. Done~ i just did it this morning!

QUOTE(al3p @ Oct 1 2011, 01:10 PM) Cheers man. Would you mind sharing which SSD model do you use? Thinking of getting one this month cause I feel the need for speed. i have limited buget...so i got the Force 3 120GB at RM635 from CEX. if u have extra cash...u could opt for Vertex 3 or OWC or Intel or Force GT. but Force 3 is fast enuff for what i m doing

QUOTE(olivur @ Oct 1 2011, 03:16 PM) I might be off but shouldn't the light just be on when it first starts up and pulsates when its in sleep mode? also, while coz has always been ridiculously fast, I've always opted for crucial ._. yup, the lights shud be on while Mini is on...and pulsates if it's sleeping... but mine...just no light at all... hahahaha....i think i didnt connect the IR receiver after the "operation"...

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Oct 1 2011, 04:36 PM) You're gonna face problem later when you're using the Apple Remote for iTunes/DVDplayer/Plex. Otherwise it serves no purpose. owh it's only for the Apple Remote? i dun even have the remote... Thanks for pointing that out man... Then i guess i dont need to "re-operate" my mini... Added on October 1, 2011, 4:40 pmQUOTE(olivur @ Oct 1 2011, 04:38 PM) hold up hold up. isn't the led just a power indicator? as in it has nothing to do with the ir receiver, right? i think they share the connector... QUOTE(olivur @ Oct 1 2011, 04:46 PM) but you said it lights up when it's sleeping! which means it is working ._.! because iirc its not supposed to light up during normal use. eh? my lights doesnt light up at all! hahahaha... i think i need more practice before "operate" a mac... the light does come on during normal usage...as far as i remember... Added on October 1, 2011, 6:42 pmok solved my light problem! just as i thought...the cable not connected... and with 8GB ram... i can more apss faster! HO YEAH!!!!! Guys... I need some help... i notice a very slow startup to get to the Apple logo after the SSD swap... but after that it's super fast to get to the desktop.. any idea why this is happening? Added on October 2, 2011, 5:39 pmOk somehow after a bit of digging... i tried following some advice...and it works... Basically all I had to do was go to "Startup Disk" in "System Preferences" and select the disk I'll be booting form. Voila! From 50+ secs to less than 15 secs! p/s : Does getting the OWC Mercury Extreme makes it A LOT faster? This post has been edited by xandman: Oct 2 2011, 05:39 PM

QUOTE(izzi_guy @ Oct 5 2011, 06:40 PM) haha..SSD..nice man..but really expensive too..i though it is because of the ram..have to save a bit la to buy it.. now im planning to build a DIY storage..like putting 3 slots off hdd into 1.and make it RAID..possible or not? not expensive bro. thats y i showed u the force 3...it's cheap! i m using it and got it at 635 only... yes it is possible to stuff a few HDD into a casing and raid it. Maybe u can take a look at Drobo. i m considering it myself too! or maybe if u win lottery...i can consider this... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
