yes, you're right about PCIe-based flash storage not available from 3rd party manufacturers

What about if I want to find the parts online? Is there a site that sells loose or 3rd party PCIe SSDs?

Guys,

I am facing a problem here. Im using old 2011 iMac with 16gb third party RAM. Recently I've been trying to update to OSX yosemite but it seems that an ori RAM is required coz my iMac keeps giving me the error: unable to unpack essentials.pkg... Any other way to update?

Help needed. I'm thinking of upgrading my Macbook pro 15 early 2011 Ram.
1. Should I upgrade to 8GB or 16GB?
2. Will there be a significant difference between the performance of 8 and 16? Which is more worth it performance-price ratio (considering it's only 1333MHz..)?
3. Will changing my HDD to SSD significnatly improve my performance while playing games or rendering?

Whack in a SSD, immediately you will see the speed difference for the speed to start up, app launching, files transfer and so on.

IMO, running a SSD with 4GB of ram is better than running a normal hdd with 16GB of ram. whistling.gif

1. if price difference is significant, go for 8GB should be enough, given that yours is no longer a new laptop. 8gb is more than enough for current app needs.
2. 4gb vs 8gb - very significant in performance. 8gb vs 16gb for most application, the performance is not prominent, unless you are running many many VMs at the same time or doing video editing.
3. You should upgrade to SSD + 8GB. if budget is a constraint, go for 8GB + SSD first.

I have MacBook Pro Late 2011. I want to upgrade RAM to 8GB and buy SSD.
- Which brand should I buy? Is it ok as long as its DDR3 1333 or do i have to buy a specific one?
- Which SSD should I buy? (128GB or 256GB?)

Please, recommend me cheap but good ones, as I am tight on budget.
Thank you.

You can search for any SATA 3 SSD, although I would recommend that you get at least 256Gb.

I am planning on upgrading my Mac Mini Late 2012 version with a 256Gb Samsung Pro EVO or Samsung 850 Pro.

Haven't decided on which model yet exactly.

I wonder if OEM Mac Pro SSD can be bought on eBay to be transplanted.

You have to order it from their website and get it shipped here. Don't think there are any local suppliers here.

I'm planning to upgrade my MBA Mid 2013 128gb to 256gb. I was wondering if I bought one online from oversea, is there any chance that the item being held by custom and got tax?
