hello bros,

i want to upgrade my mbp 13" hdd to a 500gb hdd.

which brand would u guys recommend?

is there any shop that offers the service to backup and transfer all my data to the new hdd?

too lazy to do by myself and afraid other things might go wrong.

thanks!
*
my #1 recommendation, seagate momentus xt. #2 hitachi travelstar 7k500 or the slightly cheaper 5k500, and #3 would be western digital scorpio blue

if u rajin a bit maybe just go n try do it urself, very easy. u will feel more 'intimate' with ur MBP once u know it inside out haha

what do you mean by flash disk?
i don't know that term. enlighten me more please. =))

my current ram is 4GB, will upgrade to 8GB makes my work ( Adobe After Effects rendering/etc.., etc.. ) faster?

is it possible to upgrade Processor? my current ones is 2.4GHz Intel Pro Duo.

anyway, i heard that only Apple Certified can repair/upgrade/service our macs. if not, will void our warranty. correct me if i'm wrong.
*
i think by flash disk he meant SSD. basically it's a faster, more expensive hard drive. this is the best upgrade you can do if u have the money

im not sure if a RAM upgrade will speed up rendering. but no, you cannot upgrade the processor of any laptop. n it should be Core 2 Duo, not Pro Duo tongue.gif

u're wrong about only apple certified can upgrade etc. u can do it urself, just make sure u dont spoil anything

wow that is cheap! i m a bit noob on ram, what is the 'spec' of the ram.. is it suitable for MBP 2010?

i see in garage sales, 4GB DDR3 is about RM200+ each..  icon_question.gif
yours is MBP 2010 too? where you buy and how much eh? you buy 2 pcs of 4GB?
*
yeah i realized some sellers in garage sales havent update their prices for 4gb ddr3. the standard price now is ~120 for 1066mhz n ~160 for 1333mhz. perhaps u can PM them n ask what's their latest price

QUOTE(hantupolong88 @ Feb 14 2011, 11:30 AM)
Have u all heard about the momentus XT? It's hybrid, SSD and HDD if I'm not mistaken. Had anyone use this before? Surveyed the price at lowyat, only cost around rm4++ for 500gb. Which one should I upgrade first, RAM or SSD? Which one will greatly increase MacBook performance?
*
quite a few forumers using this. i'd say upgrade to momentus XT 1st (well proper SSD better lah if money is no problem), sure got improvement biggrin.gif for RAM, u wont feel the improvement if u dun need 8gb

Sounds good. Will grab one soon.

Guys, restoring a new he'd is as easy as;

1) install OS with disc

2) run time machine to restore

Correct?
*
no need to install the OS. boot from the OSX dvd, then restore from time machine

Guys, ive just stumbled across this piece of info: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1109412

Apparently now the late 2008 MBP 2.4ghz (the one im using) can already support 8gb of ram. Previously only 6gb. Can anyone confirm this? If this is true im gonna get a pair soon smile.gif

^ you can, just that it'll downgrade 1333mhz to 1066mhz automatically. try to find 1066mhz if u can, those might be ~rm30-50 cheaper i guess. if cannot find just buy 1333mhz lah

Anyone tried 8GB RAM on Macbook white late 2009? Can it do the job like mbp 2010?
*
what do u mean by 'can do the job'? are you trying to compare a slow cpu / more RAM comp to a fast cpu / less RAM comp?

better CPU = generally faster computer
more RAM = can do more things at once

8gb mbw 2009 maybe only will feel faster (compared to the 2010 mbp) at >4gb load.

maybe u can tell us what's on ur mind n why are u comparing between the two? and what job are we talking about here?

QUOTE(uniquexme @ May 14 2011, 06:31 AM)
hmm i wonder y 2.5" HDD got different types. so need to try before we pay!
*
only got two... 9.5mm and 12.5mm i think. but i guess both should fit in any MBP just fine. it's the older pre-unibody (15", not sure if the 17" is fine) ones that they cant fit in
