2.5k thats a big budget.. hehehe u can have lots of choice for that budget...
anyway.. best thing is u go to guitar shops bring some pro wif u.. and try out the guitar there... since u still new and u need the motivation to play.. so get a guitar that really look good to you (ofcourse within ur budget) so when u bring it back u will be more interested to play it day by day.. dont just get something that might be good for other but not ur self that can cause lost of interest and end up selling those guitar..

maaaan 2.5k is alotta money.. if i were in your position i'd go for a MIM Fender Strat (although i dont know how suitable that is for JRock) and any old amp. because you wouldn't need to use your amp much if u perform regularly. and since ur beginning, i dont think you'll need many effects to play with. IMO, you should start of with a great guitar, as you're most probably gonna use it for a long time, and then only move on to better amps, effects, etc..

Rikipu, completely disagree with you there mate.
An amplifier is one of the cornerstones of your tone. We always have this equation: Sucky Amp + Amazing guitar = Sucky tone Average Amp + Average guitar = Decent tone Amazing Amp + Sucky Guitar = Bearable tone.
It's not whether he performs regularly or not.... the feel of playing through an amplifier and playing through headphones are two completely different feels and methods of playing.
But yes, with that budget, a guitar like the lower midrange Ibanez RG and maybe a Vox AD30, throw in a Wah pedal and you're good to go.

hmm, never seen it that way, but now come to think of it, you're RIGHT! sucky amps bring everyone down. thats why my line 6 amp's clean sound is all echo-y and loose, well, personal preference plays a role there too i suppose.
but anyway xMika, with that sort of budget, dont just look into the yamaha pacificas and a microcube, there are lots, and i mean LOTS more stuff you can take into consideration.

sucky amp is one thing la. but i still say buy the best guitar u can afford, of cos with allowance for a decent amp. afterall, u are going to play it right and not just strum and go wah nice sound? of cos saying that, blacktrix missed out one. amazing guitar + average amp = pretty decent tone

Yup. Totally forgot about that one Ever! Get a decent guitar that can last you a long time (I'm STILL using my Epiphone LP100..... after lots of modifications of course ) and an amp that suits your tone. Then whatever you have left, maybe can invest in a multi-fx unit with an expression pedal....

I'm just a beginner =.= i can only spent more or less RM800 on the whole set. A beginner guitar like SX or Pacifica will suit me more. A decent amp like Roland microtube will do. When i'm good at it, I will consider buying another new guitar. But for now, a low budjet is better. Thanks for all the suggestion My 2.5k not all on guitar lol.

I prefer to play rock music. Any other good suggestion of electric guitars around my budjet which is RM800 ? If there's a good quality starter pack, it will be better.

To me personally. If 800, get the Yamaha Pacifica + Roland Microcube if 2500, get the Ibanez RG + Vox 30AD.

And it's microCUBE, not microTUBE......... although if they DO come out with a 15w Valve amp, the Microtube would be an Awesome name
