As from the Streamyx website. Here

31/03/2009
SERVICE INTERRUPTION

Dear Valued Customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to announce that there is a disruption of its Internet services due to circuit faults on the SMW3 between Tuas, Singapore and Penang linking Malaysia to Hong Kong and APCN2 near Chongming, China connecting Malaysia to the United States. As a result, customers using the Internet services may experience slow browsing while accessing websites hosted in the U.S. and Hong Kong.

In addition, customers using other IP services such as Virtual Private Network (VPN) and other critical business applications linked to the U.S. and Hong Kong may also experience some service degradation.

To alleviate the problem, some of the links have been rerouted to alternate routes to ease the congestion.

Restoration works on the affected cables are already in progress. However, during the restoration process, traffic to Northern America and Hong Kong may experience degradation. However, traffic to other countries will not be affected. TM expects complete recovery of its services by 5 April 2009 and will make further announcements on the progress of the restoration works.

TM wishes to assure its customers that it is undertaking all necessary measures to restore communications services for its customers as soon as possible.
Customers can call TM at 100 and select “Internet Services” or e-mail us at help@tm.com.my for any Internet related problems.

Thank You.

Ever since the earthquakes causes global interruption,
I think TMnet has found a fcking BRILLIANT idea to
give excuses on their fcking performances. WTF ?
Now their excuse is cables, great work...how the
hell, Singaporeans arent affected.

Its like almost every month there's interruption, even
singaporeans in my wow guild arent having lags or DC.

whether true or not, sometimes i also feel that way
the thing is the most minor outages (or outages with other major alternative routes)
they use it as an excuse, who are the cheating?

the breakdown itself directly? of course nothing
unless the screamyx minded people segregate their bandwidth towards certain ranges and change the ranges a certain area you can get to please certain business customers. cause like one of those guys mentioned earlier most of the equipment MIGHT have kena overloaded with conficker data traffic, misconfigured or down as usual.

Since Streamyx disruption in December 2008, I went out and subscribed to Izzi (6 months free 1 month). So far, Izzi has been consistently average while Streamyx has not fully recovered from the December 2008.

Now 31 March 2009, another disruption. Buey tahan liao...

I could tell exactly when my disruption started. Connection screwed up some time around 7-8 pm, a few hours ago. Certain foreign sites are accessible (like JewTube), but Wikifagia, Wikia and BBC aren't.

124.13.*.* seems to fare way better than 124.82.*.* - I'm able to load some international sites now like wikipedia and some servers in Russia and some of my ps3 gamesites but that's as far as it goes. I guess it's slowly coming back but it was damn hard trying to get anything besides the 124.82 ip. At one point I got 115.134 which I have never gotten before, I usually get 115.132 in that range. Guess I'll wait another hour or two.

TM wishes to assure its customers that it is undertaking all necessary measures to restore communications services for its customers as soon as possible.
Customers can call TM at 100 and select “Internet Services” or e-mail us at help@tm.com.my for any Internet related problems.

connecting via Digi Edge, just as fast as usual.

I thought all telcos lease the international lines from telekom, how come they don't have any problems? Unless Telekom is tele-con again.

The bolded part is so untrue. Can barely even connect to a server hosted in germany and i seriously doubt germany is in the list of Northern America and Hong Kong.

But since in office now, the internet seems ok. WTF, izzit just me or TM give better lines to office but we at home users suffering?

What nonsense are you talking about, i'm in office, and it sucks.

I'd rather that they can give better service to some, than for all to suffer.

Right now, it shows that to their best of abilities, they still can't give good services.

why isn't it fair? companies pay a minimum of rm600+, home users can pay as low as rm66. of course they give priorities to businesses XD

especially those big corp that pull a direct 100mbit cable, that i think cost 10-30k per month....

Unfortunately, we're not that big.

For those that says company internet no problem, how BIG is your company?

Doing lease line? Business broadband, I can say 100% still sucks for us

how camo business lines are unaffected? How come other telco ISPs line not affected. Don't always eat the bullshit telekom feeding the customers.

CELCOM Broadband users effected or not?

I'm looking at setting up a backup wireless line, since wired lines only got streamyx.

Was thinking about P1, but some users reported P1 suffering from same issue too?

fmt=18 (+ downloading the fmt=18 using IDM) quality = 118kB/s
without fmt=18, no buffer, considered fast.

Youtube is very fast for me. Watching videos in HQ and there's NO BUFFERING.

Another strange thing. I'm downloading Wanted: Weapons of Fate demo from Gamespot and that thing is around 800 MB. I'm getting average 170 KB/s. Hmm...

But Yahoo! main page is still slow as hell to load...

And Rapidshare files won't download at all!!

What the hell is going on? vmad.gif

What is the alternative? Want to check out other internet provider. We don't have to put up with this kind of recurring problem if we have the choice.

Nobody ever posted here a solution, just complaints.

Third Asia-Pacific undersea cable planned
March 19, 2009, 9:05pm

TAIPEI (DPA) – Several Asian countries plan to jointly build a third Asia-Pacific undersea cable to bring faster internet service to the region, Taiwan media reported Thursday. The countries plan to jointly invest 500 million dollars to lay the Asia-Pacific Cable Network 3 (APCN3), according to the Economic Daily News and the Commercial Times, which cited unnamed Chunghwa Telecom Co sources. The APCN3 would link Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. The main companies involved in the venture - including Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom, China’s China Unicom Ltd and China Telecom Corp, Singapore’s Starhub Ltd and Japan’s KDDI Corp - were expected to sign a contract next month. APCN3 was scheduled to be finished by 2013, the reports said. The undersea cable would be 11,000 kilometers long and have a larger capacity than the APCN2, which is 10 years old and frequently breaks down.

Made a complaint to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on 31 March 2009.

http://aduan.skmm.gov.my/

TM replied by email today with excuses. Called the MCMC toll-free line to check if TM's reply meant the case is closed. The lady who answered the phone seemed reasonably knowledgeable and said they have received complains from other customers. They are investigating.

While I do not believe any government agency could ever help make our country better, but I hope MCMC will. But without complains, MCMC cannot act against TM.

MCMC has made it is very simple to make a complain. With each complain it adds weight. Just 5 minutes. Be calm and specific about your complain. You may have a lot of 4-lettered words to say (I know I do!) but it doesn't make your complain any more credible.

Customers can call TM at 100 and select "Internet Services" or e-mail us at help@tm.com.my for any Internet related problems.

Thank You.

The Internet has become such an integral part of our lives, and yet the largest Internet service provider in our beloved country fails to realize that.
The Internet's used so widely in so many areas of one's life, and yet a single whole PROGRESSING nation doesn't get the service it deserves.

We pay a price that's reasonably high for a relatively slow Internet connection, and yet we don't even get what we should.

It's ironic, too - how all our higher-ups, ministers, and everyone's saying how this nation is progressing and how we'll be a first world country and all those pledges about embracing technology and such, but yet no one is addressing a SIMPLE aspect which all Malaysians have a problem with.
It's f***ing ironic.

And we're to progress with this? I doubt it.

Instead of solving problems that are more noteworthy, we have all our simply sagacious and truly knowledgeable higher people tending to frivolous and stupidly trivial things.

Malaysia? Right now I'm so very keen on migrating the hell out of this country if I was capable of doing so. And that says something apparent: when your own citizens don't even have that sense of belonging in this land, it's no more a small problem.

If no amendments are made on the way things work in Malaysia, a downfall's bound to come soon - very soon.
