This sound awkwardly familiar, LOL.

wait lar, wait.... wait till Apple release implant Mac to your brain, no need to upgrade anymore, cause Apple control human species by then. hahaha... just kidding ya.
*
No, no. Then you should wait for them to make the implant teach you kung fu. And then wait SOME MORE just because you've resisted so damn long anyway.

my friend and i purchased MBP 15" from the apple online store recently. mine came last week and it was vibrating really bad (either due to the hardrive or the fan) and i have since informed apple and they have arranged DHL to pick it up and they'll send me a new unit soon. It's been more than a week since i called and there's no sign of DHL at all.

My friends MBP came today and his laptop is wobbly. apparently the base isn't flat. He called apple and is also sending it back via DHL.

Is apple's QC that bad now? I used to think apple was better than this...
*
Ever thought that it might have been a particularly bad batch, about the time when factory workers were hurling themselves off of roofs?

I'm a PC user for many years. Tried the MBP and iMac once and I have no idea what to do. I have been thinking to buy or not to buy... It isn't cheap and I dun wanna spend rm5-6k an buy a iMac for display purpose only. Guys / all sifus shd I buy the iMac 27"?

I have been crazy abt iPhone since 3GS and ip4. I'm using both now and very happy with it. That's why I thinking shd I even get a iMac instead of a new PC but I just worry i cant get used to it. Its so totally different then windows OS.
*
What would you use the iMac/new PC for? Image editing? Video editing? Presentations? Gaming?

And you're already scared ****less by OSX just because you casually used it once? Yes, it's different from Windows. Hell, Windows 7 is different from Windows XP! Yes, you'll lose about one day of productivity getting used to the controls. And yes, you'll throw up and run wailing back to your comfort zone if you decide to cloud your mind with your negativity.

just found out the answer from apple.com.my

yes the magic trackpad support chinese handwriting!! cool another RM219  sad.gif  also charger with battery RM99  sad.gif

The battery + charger isn't necessary. You can always opt for other brands of rechargeable batteries. As much as I love Apple, not all their products are "must-haves".

Fact: a laptop is never meant to play high-end games.

if we are not in the eligibility list, but intention is to buy for someone (a student) as a gift, can we qualify ?
and can Apple actually control that all purchases are meant for educational ?? i guess the students can always
help others to purchase on behalf...and the notebook mainly used for playing games/internet FB ???

i think the reason they offer tis discounts is to capture the market share..starting from student...(most students
are not working , and buying with their parents money anyway)...so next time when they graduated...they will
continue to become Mac users...

they should also offer same discounts to PC users or maybe corporate users in order to "convert" them to Mac users  wink.gif

The point is that Apple sees themselves as Ferrari would in the automobile industry. Be it their phones, computers, music players or smart phones, Apple has always set themselves apart with their higher prices and equally higher quality. Point in fact: in the first half of 2010, Apple's phone sales governed only 2.8% of all phone sales (in the US) yet still managing to claim 39% of the profit share. Comparatively, Nokia, Samsung and LG combined managed to rake in 32% of the profit share, despite having ~66% market share in the same period. (Source)

tl;dr: Apple doesn't need to stoop to lowering profit margins to remain successful.

why MBP?
as a photographer, sometimes i need to edit my photos on the spot and give them to clients within the day itself
its also portable

This statement here has more weight than the rest of your comments, in my opinion, which will be why I'd point you towards the MBP.

What you can do is get the 13" and save up/spend a little more for a second 24"-30" monitor for your workstation.

As for video editing, the 13" can do it, although it is hardly ideal for larger videos.

i intent to develop an apple apps and i notice that the sdk require a mac... so i browse thru the apple store in malaysia and found out the macbook 13inch which is around 3.3k...does this macbook have the juice for developing apps? just wanna make sure and some opinion from experts in here
*
Actually, Apple has recently lifted their ban on Apps developed through means other than the official Xcode SDK, e.g. Adobe Flash CS5.

On the other hand, the 2010 MBP is still leaps and bounds more powerful than an iPhone 4 (besides the screen), so yes, it's more than enough to develop apps on.

Remember: it's much easier to hijack somebody's 65" TV for fun and profit with your Macbook than your iMac. XD

Also, unless you plan to ditch your Macbook (Pro) once you enter University, you'll love the portability when you need to do presentations with Keynote.

I have being thinking to switch to Mac for sometime, not because of the price I would have being a Happy Mac by now. Anyway, finally making the move. Need advice here.

I'm a freelance photographer and knowing that Mac gives the 'what you see is what you will get'.

Getting a iMac 27" for my editing and use a Win Notebook for customer presentation and mobile purpose.

Do you think is workable or I should get a MBP? But if i get a MBP meaning have to lug around 2 notebooks if to cover an event. sad.gif
*
The 13" MBP is just nice for presentations, in my opinion. Further, I'm pretty much an advocate for external displays when working from the desk. However the latter is down to personal preference.

Without trackpad, I can't input Chinese?
Really need some times to get used to the Mac OS.
But I loving it. Will try to spend more time on it.
Thanks all
*
If you're not interested in handwriting recognition, then you can still input chinese with the keyboard, like you would on a Windows machine.

How? By pin yin only?

By the way will the trackpad work better then those third party handwriting pad for both PC and Mac one? Such as the 小蒙恬 from HK?
*
Any thing that doesn't require me to install an extra application (I don't trust) into my Mac is always better.

Guys..I am not a heavy gamer.. I need a mac that I can play Warcraft and watching movies with it..Can MBA handle games? Or I should go for MP?
*
It depends what media the majority of your movies are in. If it's mainly in DVD format, then keep in mind that the MBA doesn't have an optical drive and the on-board storage isn't suited to store lots of full-length movies.

QUOTE(Jellular @ Nov 20 2010, 01:25 PM)
Hi, I am planning to buy iMac.

Can I ask your opinion on this two :-

1) I am planning to install Windows for working and gaming purpose,
so is VMware a
i) must
ii) recommended
iii) waste of money
Recommended for work.
For games, it'll depend on what sort of games you play. If it's lots of modern games, then it's a waste of money; on the other hand, VMware is sufficient for some quick GOG action.

QUOTE
2) as for Microsoft Office, which one is recommended
i) Microsoft Office for Mac (more expensive)
ii) Microsoft Office install in Windows partition ?

Thanks guys.
*
Both are the same thing. The only benefit from using Office for Mac is the convenience, especially if it means you don't need to spend extra for VMware/Parallel.
