Fresh grad for Science related positions will usually be low paid. You will most likely end up doing routine lab work anyway, no sane employer would pay too much for that.

fresh grad in science field especially research won't command high pay. at most i'ld say rm 1.2k or around that. it depends a lot on experience.

a medical scientist or watever scientist in M'sia means nothing. My x teacher once said, dun dream of becoming scientist in M'sia, char kueh tiaw can, scientist ah belajar tinggi2 pun x gune, in the end earn less than char kueh tiaw ppl. If u r planning to be 1, u might as well consider develop outside Msia.

please dont get mistaken by lab scientist and research scientist

most job offered here is lab scientist where you mainly do some small experiment or routine job; which have nothing to do with R&D.

thus, the low pay

you need experience (post graduate) or >5 years industrial experience to become research scientist..

this is my POV

My advice is: If u r a degree holder, go to get msc or Phd or u can't survive in medical field. With a medical science based degree, u can't do much in Malaysia. The only way is do post-graduate studies and become a researcher. Of couse some of them may interested to become medical Lab technologist, but it's low pay and u'll get bored soon within 2-3 years after woking.

if u r really interested in research work, my advise is study till phd..after degree, try to get scholarship to abroad and work there...m'sia sad to day, we dunno how to appreciate scientist...

s'pore will be a good place to do ur msc or phd as well..as it's near to m'sia and quite a no. of pharmaceutical companies there too...

if after degree, ur choices will b quite narrow..either ends up in pathlab..or hosp's medical lab if u r interested lah...salary should be around 1.5k to 1.8k i guess...last time i heard pathlab can offer up to 2k..but mayb got OT lah..

good luck!

Thanks bro..

But, can ask some more question? If I dun become a scientist after I graduate.. Say, I join a business company, will i have an edge due to my science degree..?

Like, maybe more likely to get hired, etc..

After all, i wouldn't want to offend anybody but isn't it widely believed that science requires more intelligence to study, compared to business? ^^

researchers in malaysia get peanut pay. ive visited this research laboratory; one of the major ones in malaysia involved in biotechnology-related products and they only earn basic 2k for newly grad.

only get your MSc and pHD if you intend to go into the academic line.else, its a total waste.

medical scientist technologist = laboratory technologist FYI...

Erm nope, generally you won't have more advantage than business graduate. May be same or even lower. I'm a science graduate myself, BioMed from Medical Faculty and I know how's our education system generally works.
Frankly speaking, a lot (but not every) of us only knows how to memorise notes and depends on lecturers to provide tips and the Hiring Managers especially from MNC knows about this.
However luck may be at your side if you joined a company with business in medical science. If you perform well during your interview and supported by your good track record of extra-curricular activities, you might as well have higher chance getting hired.

When you join the workforce with a science degree, as what others have said, in Malaysia you won't have much chances to do what you have studied. If you are really interested in research science, then aim for Phd. Otherwise you can forget about doing research based on your Bachelor degree knowledge.

Otherwise, you can join a business company but you need to prepare to learn new things. Whatever you studied before may not be totally lost. Apart from memorising all the facts and vomit back during examinations, when we study science and running our experiment in lab, we also at the same time learning how to plan and execute the plan to achieve our results. After that we also learned how to do analysis based on the results we got.

Though the things we deal with when we working with a business corporation will be different from what we had in our lab/study, the fundamental and the concept will be the same. Just applied to different aspect.

So IMHO, what we study is not so important as on how we adapt when we are working. Especially in difficult times like this...
