I own the 50mm f1.4. Although it's just on my humble A100 but it's still a really really good lens.

Btw I'm new here.. hi people! laugh.gif

This was taken with my 50mm F1.4 at 1/100, F5.0. The detail is excellent from at least 2-3 stops down!

Ah, I forgot to include a 100% crop. doh.gif

The picture just now was the entire thing. A 100% crop from the center of the image would look like the following. The detail is brilliant, and the sharpness drop-off towards the sides is very acceptable.

Go get it, guys and thanks for the compliments!

Weigie, stopping down the aperture by 2-3 stops means that you shoot at around F2 and smaller. Since F1.4 is the lens' largest aperture, shooting at F1.4 will make ur images slightly soft, then at F1.7 (one stop down) it will improve, at F2 (two stops down) things sharpen up, and so on. Most prime lenses sharpen up abt 2-3 stops down (smaller) than their maximum aperture.

jedi_master, 1 stop difference is 3 clicks.

So when you roll:

1.4 1.6 1.7 2.0 2.2 2.4 2.8 3.2 3.5 4.0

2 stops from 1.4 is 2.8, and 3 stops from 1.4 is 4.0.

Great shot of the peacock!
