hye, anybody here familiar with liferay? Soo maybe we can discuss anything related to liferay development or customization here. Currently i'm using liferay as a base for my client, and sometimes it's hard to find solution in their forum, so i hope that liferay developer/user here in Malaysia can contribute some info.

Thank you biggrin.gif

yup liferay is one of the best open source ent portal. currently i'm doing portal deveplopment in ext, and to develop some portlet to integrate it with document management system. yup 5.2.2 really nice with new control panel for admin.

So there are 2 person here already using liferay, anybody else?

do you have any drop down navigation other than the default?

hi calmshot,
maybe u need play model user i think. i think creating portlet in ext much more easier than plugin sdk. if u thinking to deploy to muptiple portal, plugin sdk is better.

did anyone tried the repeatable structure for version 5.2.2 like the following structure .

Level 1 ( Repeatable )
|
------------- Level 2 ( non repeatable )

The weird thing is when you try to delete one of the repeatable item from the list , it delete the whole list.. anyone has the same experience ?

Those using IE6 will have some feature disable in 5.2.2. For example like the Manage page tree hierarchy will not expand or collapse when using IE6. But with IE7, i can drag and drop a page from one hierachy to another

for me is the community function where u can create multiple site for each community.

Because currently i'm doing project for an organization which have multi department, and each department can have their own site/portal. So this community function is the core for this project.

Second, is the personalization and drag and drop (igoogle style). every time I do a presentation to my client, when I show this function, they all like "Wow". hahaha

third, of course the standard portlet support (jsr168 and jsr268), easy for me to do some integration with other application.

Other, out of the box prebuilt portlet such as forum, blog, web content really make my life easy tongue.gif

one more requirement from my client is web hit analysis, liferay dont have that function, but after google around, i've found Piwik, the function and gui just like google analytic. You can see in the image, i use the Piwik graph plugin and embed it in the portal. look pretty neat nod.gif

actually the piwik is not a plugin, piwik is a web analytic system same as google analytic, but you can create widget with the system to put in your portal.

Yup piwik is free. Open source yeah icon_rolleyes.gif

Do anybody here know how to include rich media such as a mpg, avi, flv file into a web content. Because there is a jQuery media plugin in the js folder, but how to use that? i try with jquery media api eg
CODE
<a class="media" href="sample.mov">My Quicktime Movie</a>
but it only show link not the player.

I was trying out the LifeRay web services to create new user id. With eclipse you can actually generate the client class just by pointing it to the WSDL. And you use this generated class to access its functions. Also find out that by default only localhost can access the web services. To allow others to access you need change one of the properties in portal_ext.properties file. If not you will get error code 403.

never done that before. But I presume that as long as you can generate the necessary stub classes from the WSDL provided by the
web service publisher, you should be able to do it. Any particular issue you face in doing this ?

for current sadly no, but there are some web hosting offering jsp/servlet server but still the spec i think is not enough. You need a dedicated or virtual server is the best.

maybe you can use application provider.

Refer here --> http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/community...sting+providers

So do you think the below provider can support it with its Java Hosting?

hei i try to get my ldap working with lifefray...

i manage to connect to my AD but i got the message below:

The above results include users which are missing the required attributes (Screen Name, Password, Email Address, First Name, and Last Name). These users will not be imported until these attributes are filled in.

i suspect is the Password that causing this to happened. Can i know what field does you all enter for the Password? Pre-default is userPassword but i can't see this in my LDAP tree.

Thanks.

I think better you ask the technical support first if their server support liferay, because what i see the cpu usage and max memory is quite low.

I'm not so sure bout AD coz never use it before. Are u trying to import user account from AD server or you're exporting user from Liferay to AD server?

maybe u need to key each user password in AD before it can be imported.

Anyone tried the web form ? Lately I was trying to use it and notice that it has a limitation on the number of characters for the label/question. So if ur question/label is too long in the form, it will be produce error messages.. Anyone know if there is any portlet to use to do a proper survey beside the web form ?

i think can, since there's not many company using liferay rite now. the best of liferay is because, u can use 1 physical server to host multiple portal instances.

compare to portal based php, hosting for application based java language need many and big resources.

It is rational that we just target for big company/organigation in market.

Actually instead of doing hosting, should consider doing consultation and implementation of liferay portal for the company. Right now not many company do customization for the liferay template.. just a suggestion..

u can refer to liferay wiki. there is two type of enviroment, which is extension and plugins.
normally i use plugins enviroment to develop new portlet and use extension to extend existing liferay portlet. tongue.gif

Wow kyfong, do u remember me? You are involved in Liferay too? That's cool.

Btw, how do u use the Plugin SDK? Has to integrate with some IDE tools such as Eclipse? Currently developed a few themes to demo to our client but it is actually modifying from a theme and putting it back to the folder in webapps. Any proper way to do this? And everytime updating the stylesheet, need to restart the Apache Tomcat in order to see the changes. Why is that so?

yup, better disablekan registration atau buang default association power_user. kalau public user can create public page, they can do a phising site. i already report it to webmaster. sorry for that... I create that page just for my security conference white paper regarding permission and phishing in cms.

Hi,

In the sdk plugin folder , to create a new theme , I will execute the command

create new-template "New Template".

You should be able to find the batch in the \liferay-plugins-sdk-5.2.2\themes

Then it will create a theme folder \liferay-plugins-sdk-5.2.2\themes\new-template-theme

Next go into the new-template-theme and execute the command

\liferay-plugins-sdk-5.2.2\themes\new-template-theme\ant deploy

It will generate the base files and then deploy it to the tomcat you define in the the \liferay-plugin-sdk-5.2.2\build.<user>.properties.

It will put the war files into a deploy folder \liferay\portal\bundles\deploy.

The tomcat will then pick up the war file and hot deploy the theme. No need to restart tomcat.

Oh one more thing you need to put the changes in the \liferay-plugins-sdk-5.2.2\themes\new-template-theme\docroot\_diffs\ folder. So if you make changes to the css files you should put it into \liferay-plugins-sdk-5.2.2\themes\new-template-theme\docroot\_diffs\css folder

Hope this will help you

can someone explain about soap/wsrp?
coz rite now i developing custom portlet on plugins on LR511.
let say the custom portlet save data on portal A and then portal B(another portal) want to use/manipulate the data from portal A for just display only.

why not build it using plugin instead ? That way you will not touch the liferay ROOT folder. So easier for future upgrades..

Hello, im developing a portal using liferay...there is one thing i would like to ask. Is it possible to make batch registration for users?

FYI, im trying to integrate liferay with another system. Of course liferay can be integrate with LDAP servers. But unfortunately, my project dont have LDAP servers.

Therefore im trying to authenticate users with this:

Login Page (not liferay) --> Authenticate --> Pass --> username + password sent to liferay --> liferay will authenticate by compare this username + password with its db, which i need to create users first
.

My project need to have single sign-on features.

In case you guys have any other ideas please share! laugh.gif

Hi friends thumbup.gif

Heard a lot of things are coming up with Liferay. Are they serious about this??? What do you think about Liferay and its implementation platform? Just out of curiosity since I also saw a lot of people are going for Liferay trainings and implementing it.

Perhaps anyone here can share with me his/her insights? I am learning to adapt and adopt it smile.gif
