To be honest, they are quite strict to the freshies during orientation week. So, if you do not want to be humiliated then just do as they requested. After orientation, you can do whatever you want.

Well fruitie is right, first impression counts sometimes when you meet your friends. Its entirely up to you guys anyway. No matter what a collar shirt please. The orientation comitee is going to handle you guys.
