Hey I wanna ask you guys something. Do you guys choose Free Championship or Grade Championship in Championship Mode?

Looks to me like Grade pits you against people that share your grade, and only has 3 rounds to win a championship. Free pits you against other people regardless of grade and needs 4 rounds to win the championship. My experience is since Free has a chance to match you against people that has marginally more championship points than you, and 4 times rather than 3, you level up faster in Free than in Grade. I can get 160+ per championship in Free but only around 70-80+ on Grade on a good day.

So why would anyone play in Grade Championship?

Ha. My PSN account is actually used by both my brother and me. The Ryu that you played was my brother.

You haven't played my Gief (I think?). Let's have a match sometime.

Uhh..how do I counter Gief's SPD setups? I basically just jump back if Gief is doing a string or play keep away.
*
Fighting Gief in close range is a lot of guesswork. Jump away when he's doing a string, and his continuation of the string will hit and keep you on the ground even if you jump and if a good Gief sees this he will complete the string and get a combo. If you stay there you might get piledrivered if he guesses right mid-string. So having him close is always a bad idea. Yes, playing keep away is the best and you can give Zangief hell if you're good at it.

Guys, I played against senzr the other day and at one point we had a Zangief mirror match going. One time he did a jump HP headbutt when I was waking up. Haven't seen this move used like this before and.. I can't seem to do it! On practice I try to do it on a standing Zangief, I even tried knocking him down and pressing u+HP and meatying it.. whiffs all the time. If I tried pressing HP on the way down I get a different move. I tried other characters and still nothing. Anyone knows how to do this?

Added on May 5, 2009, 2:42 amNice set of matches Tristan. Very eye opening. 4-26...thats 2more wins than my last record biggrin.gif . Thanks for the post-match advice. Still can't resist EX glove-ing and spamming lariat when desperate .. Gotta kick it daaaaamn mad.gif

But no other way to get in your defenses other than out-poking you. And we know how effective that is. Trying to work far st.hk and far st.mp and more FAB setups into my game.

I played OneStopBROTHER a few times before. He has one mean Ryu. I recommend him to anyone who wants to fight a sound Ryu.

And WhatWhatInMyButt's Viper/Ryu is good. Besides the fact that it's impossible not to sound like a complete doofus when trying to refer to him by name.

that was my big problem....if I can eliminate that then probably I can give a better fight instead of getting comboed all the way LOL

Yesterday lost quite a huge amount of matches because of the cross ups....more like >80% I lost because of that laugh.gif
*
Which char do you use? Another way to beat crossups without guessing which way to block is to reversal it. With good timing shotos can just EX shoryuken, Blanka can up ball, and Balrog can EX dash punch which will automatically go the other way if done right (I see Artelier do this a lot). Gouken can do his counter move and anyone with a teleport can teleport away. Also you can choose to do or not to do quick-stand to mess with your opponent's timing with his wakeup crossup.

after i've gained about 3k points.
the system said my match didnt conclude properly, which it did conclude properly, and raided me my 3k points, again. my points has reverted back to 26 points.

i would have near 7k points by now if it wasnt for this thing. is this a bug or something?

it's really difficult to get decent C.Mode matches, it sux to get this when i finally get to conclude one.
*
Holy shit.. from 3k to 26points. That sucks.

Got a tip: don't go to replay mode before playing championship match. I find that it has somehow got something to do with it. I used to get this problem: once I saw a few replays, then there would be one time i get "replay could not be loaded" or something like that. Then when I back out of rankings it freezes and I have to quit game and start again. Then I go to championship mode, play, quit and when I turn it back on I get that message saying I didn't conclude properly even though I remember that it did. Happens all the time UNTIL I stopped going to replay mode before playing. You must restart your PS3 to get out of that bug. Then everything works just fine. I got to the 2K mark few weeks ago but quit playing until now since there is almost no one local playing in the G2 scene.

Let me guess.. you play runaway Gouki? There's never a right way of playing a game. I'd say don't ignore them, come back with something to shut them up. Sore losers are sore losers.

The aim of the tournament is to find and identify Singapore's best player to represent the country in the upcoming SBO. And seems to me the organizers are working with the fellas in SBO to get at least one slot in SF4.

What bout Malaysia? Any chance that alan & frens can give SBO a call if there's any opening for Malaysia? I obviously not skilled enough to play with the dudes, but i would love to see one Malaysian taking part in this pretigious competition!

BTW, did anyone check out the latest invitational tourney by Gamestop in cali? Poongko (korea) - Daigo(Japan) - Iyo(Japan) - Justin Wong(US)

Daigo came up tops with his godly Ryu and currently the unofficial WORLD'S BEST PLAYER in SF4 at the moment!
*
Yeah.. where's our tourney? I'd give it a shot! Even if I lose to the Japs at least I get to go to Japan.

BTW I don't think Daigo's the worlds best player. He lost to people before.. Japan's Mago (Sagat) and Itabashi (Zangief) comes to mind.. also I think his match against Iyo was very close in the Gamestop tourney.

Good matches there Maxwei.. you know how to use so many characters! Who's your main character? Your Blanka and Sagat are the ones that I have the most problems. Hmm..I'll definitely add Mazur1985 and give him a try. Rare for me to fight Gief mirror matches.

Tristan, even if you can log on I'll play you some other time la.. today I fought WhatWhatInMyButt and Maxwei ...in a row. And that REALLY drains all my mental power. rclxub.gif

Thats "Gigaton Punch" I think, which is one of Jack's moves. I took the name from Third Strike where I main Hugo (SA1:Death Gigas, SA2: Megaton Press) and Alex. But I also like playing as Jack or King in Tekken. Notice a trend? Hahah

gg with gigatonpress83. Very nice Gief. My comments: -

- you never use KKK lariat. you should use alternate between PPP and KKK lariat to bait attacks, then use green glove.

- when you try to FA my Devil's Reverse, dash back cancel it or you'll be very vulnerable when you do a level 3 FA.

Otherwise, pretty solid Gief! Great games there! Comments on my Bison is welcomed.
*
Thanks for the info. That devil's reverse/stomp is annoying laugh.gif Your Bison is good. But: if you block my green hand, you can actually throw me for free; you need not jump up/back to avoid me. It's a guaranteed punish which you missed a few times. Other than that, you did a good job zoning me with MK and HKs.

Haha.. I'm pretty much a masher player so I used to love that green hand. It works great when the game first came out but then everyone suddenly smartened up. Past few weeks I've toned it down a few.

well my brother was sleeping, so i tried it myself, note that i dun have piano fingers (stiff fingers) so i cant do it well. low accuracy plus slower tapping, that's why you hear 2 sounds, and sometimes the jab comes out.

here's the video:

Oh shit.. I've seen this being done a lot in 3rd Strike.. never expected you can do it in SF4 too! Does the opponent get trapped in blockstun from the MP chop like 3rd strike or can the enemy jump away? Can you do it with the super? If all Akuma players learn how to do this we might see more aggressive Akumas soon.

i'm not sure about what you mean by trapped in blockstun. but i can tell you this, if you are stucked in a block string, and this comes out, and you had no intention to jump BEFORE the SGS comes out, it's a 100% hit. you cant do anything about it. i am talking about pointblank range.

the one with the chop is SUOER, only super can be canceled into from other moves.

but i can tell you this, akuma players rarely has chances to use this SUPER SGS, coz their combo meter are so much more useful for long and far more damaging combos.

set ups for this walking super SGS that i can think of are the situations where you anticipate a throw, and when you try to counter throw suddenly you eat a SGS.
or during mix ups where you ate some overheads, and on the next one when you decided to block and you eat a SGS. (lk.spinning kick>lp>overhead)
those are the possible scenarios that i can think of, but making them happen wouldn't be easy.
*
Ohh okay. What I meant is when your opponent tried to block your MP chop he will enter block animation. When you cancel into SGS he wont get out of that block animation fast enough to jump, thats how I understand it. But thats 3rd Strike I dunno about SF4.

Hmmm.. so it's super. So if I see Akuma saving EX meter I know something is up brows.gif

EDIT: Apparently you can do this for the ultra too, but this can reportedly be avoided by jumping. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt3e9-WVRwg&feature=related

Look at 0:58-1:00!

Well, I played gigatonpress83. I see him improved while I get rusty for not playing a real match for 1 week. I know I will get rusty when I don't play for more than a week cause it happens over and over again for me. Lucky me that I don't eat zero. tongue.gif
*
You haven't rusted much Tristan. You may have let your guard down in the middle of our bouts but you "woke up" at the last half of our matches and dominated me again! I need to be less predictable..Always a pleasure fighting you.
