spore will always be 'short' of doctors and pharmacists.....for the simple reason that they do not train enough for their needs....

this they purposely do, as they know they can save money from expensive training of healthcare personnels, by just recruiting 'foreign talents'.....

these are mainly msians, all fully trained by msian taxpayers (scholarships) or parents, in top universities in the english speaking world, and lured to work in singapore.......recently, they officially recognised um and ukm as well (unofficially, um graduates have been recognised and working in spore for years)..........and some batches, a majority of non-bumi graduates decided spore is a more attractive option.......

you mean general english paper or 1119?? anyway, I still need to take IELTS course I got A2 for general and B4 for 1119 sad.gif
*
this is a common misconception........

the 'general english paper' is the bahasa ingeris paper code 1119........

the same paper, ie the essay part, is re-marked to gce-o level standard, and that is the second mark you get, but it is called gce-o..............

so you got a2 for 1119

and b4 for gce-o

it's a 5-7 hrs flight, compared to a 14 hr flight, with fares 30-50% cheaper.......so there IS a significant difference....

Requirements for A Levels surprisingly low and no direct TER cut-off for SAM or HSC.
a-levels requiremrnt of bbb is the same as many pharmacy schools, including aussie ones.......

there is mention of hsc 'uai' of 80'%'........which is the same as ter before and the current atar.......however there is a discordance......as bbb in a levels generally equate atar90........

unless someone is planning to come over Australia, I would sincerely ask them to stay away from Western Australia. just too many pharmacists around with little to none vacancy.

the consequences include but not limited to pay rate hits a new low. though still not as low as malaysia.

people thinking about going to australia to do pharmacy, please note:

pharmacy is now OFF the sol for independant skill migration.......which means you CANNOT apply for pr........you will not have enough points......

Good news people!!

Monash's pharmacy entry requirements have officially gone down the drain!!

Now with BBB you can enter!!!

http://www.med.monash.edu.my/for/Entry-Requirements.html

All you need to do is just pass the interview... smile.gif
*
that has been the cut off for many unis in oz for international students.....eg curtin.......although they want atar90 (about aab equivalent)......so again, another example of how it is easier to get in through a-levels than oz year 12........

4 years ago, the cut off for parkville was 95........now it's also 90, same as msia........

What the difference between doing twinning program for pharmacy and not doing it?? Will it have a great impact when i come out to work..

Actually the demand for pharmacist is higher or doctors? I mean in Malaysia and overseas as well..
*
surely that will depend on which country.......

there is no difference if one only wants to work in msia.....but a twinned programme may give one opportunities to be registrable in other countries, and to work elsewhere.....

ah....msian campus......there is certainly no info for the parkville campus.........

and they have dropped the cut off to atar90 for msia.......they still want 95 in parkville........maybe that's why they want to interview.......give chance to those with poorer results, if they behave well during the interview..... biggrin.gif

I heard that Taylor's M Pharm programme is partially accredited in the UK. So is it a wise choice if I choose to do a MPharm in Taylors rather than in IMU or Notts?
*
the m pharm is a twinning programme with cardiff uni, and the last 2 years done in cardiff and the degree is awarded by cardiff and of course recognised by the gpc, as it satisfies the minimum 2 years study in uk..........

it's exactly the same as the notts and imu mpharm, last 2 years in notts and strathclyde.........

The current retail pharmacy landscape in australia

MONASH University Dean of Pharmacy, Prof William Charman, has called for a moratorium on new pharmacy schools in Australia, as well as a review of their accreditation standards.

Charman says the proliferation of schools here is “of significant concern,” with a threefold increase since 1997 to a total of 18 - greatly exceeding the level of pharmacy education per capita in the UK, USA, Canada and Europe.

http://archive.traveldaily.com.au/PD/2011/Jul11/pd190711.pdf
NO NEW pharmacy schools should be established in Australia, according to the Pharmacy Guild of Australia.“We know there are some parts of Australia where there are shortages, and others where there are surpluses.

http://archive.traveldaily.com.au/PD/2011/Jul11/pd200711.pdf
According to comments made by APESMA yesterday, more than
half of all Australian pharmacy interns are currently being paid under award wages.

http://archive.traveldaily.com.au/PD/2011/Jul11/pd140711.pdf
And obviously local students are upset that pharmacy is being added back to Skilled Occupations List (SOL)
*
i think there was pressure from the unis, to have pharmacy put back in the sol......foreign student enrolment must have suffered when it was taken off for a year......

strangely, they put back pharmacy and law, and took away optometry......

what's the point taking up MPharm when salary is just the same as BPharm (in hospitals)?

they are the same, both 4 years of study......don't let the name difference fool you.....

just like mbbs and md are exactly the same....

The main reason why so, is that the faculty doesn't see a point of having such a high entry requirement (AAB) when the students need to go through interview. If so, it would be double stress for them.
that is a bull shit excuse......

it's purely the difficulty in getting the right students....ie those excellent ones WITH the money to go with the brains.....

they have no problem keeping to their atar95 cut-off for their parkville intake........since most students are funded under csp.......

er.....before you actually throw in foul word perhaps you may want to check, Parkville has adjusted their entry requirement to ATAR 90 as well.
it's still 95........http://www.pharm.monash.edu.au/courses/pharmacy/entry-details.html

in addition, umat is required........

however, for international students, they have lower requirements, again, so they can get as many to enrol and pay full fees.......which is currently at the same level as medicine 5 years ago.......
