I remember reading the book when I was a kid...probably around when I was 10. In hindsight it wasn't a book suited to my age. Very adult and dark! I can't remember too much about it now, except that the book was creepy as fuck and also weird as shit. In equal measures possibly.
Anyway the movie is a glossy, Hollywood adaptation of the book that lacks any scares whatsoever. In fact the creepiest part of the entire movie happens in the first 5 mins, with the iconic drain scene from the book. It's all downhill from there, with telegraphed scares aplenty, replete with CGI. You've seen the kids here in so many movies before so even they don't entertain. |
