Hey guys, having trouble deciding between the Dell Inspiron 14, Dell Studio 14 and Dell Studio 15. The specs for the studio 15 are PERFECT for me, but the only thing holding me back from buying it is the colour. It really is stupid to have the default design topo black and make every other option fanciful designs at RM211. There are also no other plain options, which seriously just makes me vmad.gif as I wouldn't mind paying RM70 to change the colour.

I'm not really a heavy gamer, probably only going to play FIFA or CS, so the graphics card doesn't really have to be AMAZING per se, but I would like a decent one (which is the problem with the Dell Studio 14, no option to upgrade the GC). I don't do video/photo editing heavily, and I'll probably just be using the comp to do work biggrin.gif

The laptops below though, all have some of my essentials-
3GB of RAM
320GB space at least
14.0" screen or above with an integrated webcam
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
9 Cell Battery

Anyway here are the specs:

Dell Studio 15

Topo Black Colour with Black U-Trim (WTF)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.10GHz/ 800 FSB/ 2MB Cache) (Can't afford a P8600 processor lol)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 32 bit (English) (Hoping to upgrade to Windows 7 as Dell is offering a free upgrade program)
15.6''High Definition + WLED (1600x900) Display with TrueLife™ w/Camera
3GB (1X1GB + 1X2GB) DDR2 SDRAM
320GB SATA 7200RPM Performance Hard Drive
Slot Load 8X DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability
9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Integrated 2.0 Mega Pixel Web Cam

At only RM3035 , it really is a dream computer. It's such a shame the colour has to screw everything up.

Dell Studio 14

Midnight Blue Colour with Black U-Trim (waaay better than the topo black)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.10GHz/ 800 FSB/ 2MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic SP1 Edition 32 bit (English)
14.1" Widescreen WXGA+ WLED (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™ with webcam
3GB (1X1GB+1X2GB) Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
320GB SATA Hard Drive
Slot Load 8X DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability
9-cell Primary Battery
Dell Wireless 1510 802.11n Half Mini-Card
Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (sigh)

RM 2569- good price, but looking for a better GC.

Dell Inspiron 14

Obsidian Black with High Gloss (the best colour option in my opinion thumbup.gif )
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.1GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2M)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic SP1 32 bit Edition (English)
14.0 " High Definition+ (1600x900) LED Display with TrueLife™
3GB (1X1GB+1X2GB) Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
8X DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability, with Roxio Premium 10
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330
9-cell Primary Battery
Integrated 1.3 mega pixel web cam

RM 2818- Interesting buy.

Technically, the Inspiron 14 would be a decent alternative to the Studio 15, but I think for only RM217 more, I'll be getting a faster HD, a better GC, a better Web cam, better OS, larger screen and an option to upgrade to Windows 7, so seriously, I think the Studio 15 is better in terms of value for money. DARN YOU DELL! I've already called to ask if they had plain designs but was told that the only colour options were the ones shown on the website. It's sad. I'm also kind of sick of using inspiron tongue.gif (last 4 computers)

So basically, I need your input on whether I should get the Inspiron 14 or the Studio 15. The colour is the only factor holding me back from purchasing the studio 15. Maybe you guys have seen it and it doesn't look so bad?

Thanks!

Oh and my price limit is pretty much 3.2k. Thanks again

drop the Studio 14... it's the old model using old hardware...

in any case, for rm3k, Studio 15 will get my vote... but if u can stretch abt rm200 more, do consider Asus U80V also... same spec as Studio 15, but 14" (1366x768) with HD4570 at 2.1kg... i heard it's got backlit keyboard as well...

What about the colour? Any thoughts on that? Thanks for the quick reply biggrin.gif

Ahh okay, but do you know if there are any kits to change the cover? Because I really just want a plain colour but they don't seem to have that option available for the Studio 15 model.

If you have a faster processor, generally the performance of your laptop will be better, but I'm not too sure how that affects gaming in particular. The graphics card is the same, with 512MB of VRAM and the same model. Basically, it's up to you biggrin.gif

Also, when browsing for options on my colour issue, I talked to a dell representative ONLINE and they said if i put her name in the order she would change the colour for me to either blue/green/red, which is fabulous!!
