yeah i got my maxis iPhone from gardens midvalley and those maxis guys took a brand new phone out and did all the unlocking for me..should be legit.
*
then i'm completely clueless. as the characteristics which you have just listed doesn't belong to an officially unlocked version. if i can narrow down the culprit, i can only assume that the maxis coverage in your area is feeble.

throughout my entire encounter with maxis (using an officially unlocked iPhone 3g), i dare to say that those characteristics have never been a problem for me.

but if i can recommend something, you might wanna turn off your 3G (via settings); your area is possibly a crossover between the region of a weak 3G and stronger EDGE/GPRS coverage.

My Maxis iPhone is having good reception. In fact, better than my LG KS20. No prb on reception.
*
again, this strengthens my claim that the so-called problems is reflected against maxis (area dependent)

if you guys reckon that maxis is bad, try using the optus network 3 weeks ago; i nearly shed a tear.

from the whirlpool forum, i have heard that vodafone's quality is also joining the bandwagon.

so stop complaining and keep hallucinating that you are paying first world price, for third world infrastructures.

I'm loving d 3G speed of Maxis, almost equal to my home's WiFi rated ard 750Kbps. No regret at all.
*
good to hear that mate! again, this proves that the network is area dependent.

without the intention of brag, the celcom 3G in my area can actually touch more than 1mbps (combined) when i use download accelerator plus.

if i'm not wrong, i have shown the print screen to frozzbyte and davidgary73 before blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

The reason that I ask coz lot of ppl said it's not worth to get Maxis Iphone plan when launching. For me I don't actually put more attention for that, so I have no idea whether it's good or not, just help my brother to ask.
*
IMHO, there isn't much alternatives to ponder upon here actually; either get it from maxis or a parallel import unit (unless you are in a country where there is more than one exclusive network provider)

you don't have to be a genius to decide actually:

1. if your monthly average consumption is almost equivalent to one advertised, then go for the maxis bound unit.

2. if you are loathe the idea of having an iPhone without any warranty, then go for the maxis bound unit.

well it is about time! it will be suicidal for maxis not to do so.

optus has dropped the monthly tariff price for the iPhones (again!) alongside vodafone.

maxis isn't alone.

every iPhone carrier, globally is.

and why on earth, are we having debates about maxis pricing and plans all over again? worse, comparing another country's plan with maxis'?

Before the likes of stringfellow or nokia2003 come down on you like 10 ton bricks, let me just say this. Not that they are not right, mind you in doing so. In most instances they are.

I have been eyeing your posts and they have been somewhat tickling the nerves a little. But with this latest statement of yours, it just fortifies what was in my mind and that is you have not taken enough time to read the relevant threads even though you appear to be quite into the iPhone.

Your comments have been addressed, debated and even quarelled over, many folds, right here.

Anyway, if you don't bother, regrets later won't matter (new phrase I just coined for you and those who do not either).

But, enjoy your new toy, it's a great one. Cheers.
*
nah PeeEl, i will not bombard anyone in respect to this issue. because i believe, at the end of the day, speculations are still speculations. nothing is certain until apple releases a final statement. hence if it is true that there will not be a new release model in the next month, i'll open myself to humiliation and accept any criticism

however having said that, i would still like to mislead myself into believing that a new release is imminent

I am sure they are desperate to get rid of the 150,000 units that they have commited to apple. Since new iphone 4G is around the corner. However, I am sure they have a limit that they must maintain in terms of pricing. I am sure apple will not allow them to simply throw pricing to spoil the image of iphone's target on highend market.

I doubt there will be anymore "significant" price difference. Maybe slightly better plans offered with the phone. If you intend to get, the latest iplan seems to be quite reasonable. At least for people already using value plan 50 like me.
*
incorrect. the price of iPhones over here in Australia has been fluctuating (downwards trend of course).

with the rumours of a new model coming up, spreading like wild fire and coupled with a fierce competition between 3 (or rather 4) network providers, you can be sure that they are tentatively "simply throwing prices" as i quote your statement above.

sure, as i have a (bad) habit to call everyone whom i meet from forums, by their forum names despite knowing their real name.

OT a little, but this part is pretty relevant, in case, some maxis customers are tempted to do something like this in the future biggrin.gif

And for those who claim that oversea telcos offer cheap/free iPhones with an affordable monthly cap. Here's the explanations. Most of these plans offer like AUD$49, 79, etc but given credit time worth AUD$350 so on. Most people would think gee... thats a lot to use, very value for money. Wait... the per minute cost is not printed. Look at the fine prints, AUD$0.80 per minute with 30 second block. Thats like almost equivalent to our minutes (RM0.15, 30 seconds block) offered by Maxis if you would compute. The point is their per minute charges is high, Malaysia is still very competitive in the mobile communications rates. Of course we pay for the phone, but its unlock and we're free to choose our telco service. Phones from elsewhere is free but locked and you pay additional costs for unlock which is the same in the end (lets not venture into 'illegal' means).

Conclusion? Apple phones are not cheap stuff hehehehe unfortunately but they are highly desirable. If you're residing in Malaysia, just get one of Maxis's plans or you can wait for better offers.

because i believe, he was actually pointing/explaining a fact to you (and not comparing). now, please learn how to differentiate

and maintain all you want, but the fact is you are currently in malaysia and this thread is dedicated to the maxis bound iPhones. as a matter of fact, there is a designated thread here

I am inclined to lean towards your end. Since you are already willing to fork out RM2400, might as well cough up another couple of hundreds and get perhaps a SingTel set; and sign up for your unlimited data plan.

The overseas iPhone will still 'offer' you what the Maxis' does, safe for the local warranty.
*
it is a malaysian "thing".

everything (i mean everything) has to come along with a warranty tag.

there was once, in the garage sales (the dedicated female section if my memory serves me well), i saw someone selling a vibrator (for-you-know-what-reason). i kid you not!

this supposedly user with a female tag, asked if the vibrator comes with warranty and the seller proceeds to respond "no. but it is brand new".

oh wait wait... that's not even the best part.

the prospective buyer then asked if the seller could give her one week personal warranty instead. nod.gif nod.gif nod.gif

i was like WHAT THE $%&#???!!! do you really want to perform a one to one exchange, should the item be faulty?

**************************************************

sorry davidgary73 for the OT, but i just wanna highlight the importance of the term "warranty" wink.gif

LOL. i could only detect the maxis iconic logo during the WWDC.

having more than 1 providers (in malaysia) could essentially kill everyone off. dah-lah maxis' iPhone sudah kurang sambutan.

Do I detect buyer's remorse?

Check back your contract you signed when you got your Maxis iPhone. Unless there is a clause stating that you are eligible for product trade-in or upgrades, you are stuck with the product you signed that contract on: the iPhone 3G.

I guess there is a blessing in disguise for Maxis for stocking such high numbers of iPhone 3G while still taking stock of iPhone 3G[S]. That way, sneaky subscribers who think they can beat the system by claiming they have faulty iPhone 3G and think they can get Maxis to exchange them for the iPhone 3G[S] will find that is not the case, since Maxis has boatloads of iPhone 3G units left. Tough luck.

In the meantime, good times comes to those who waited, those who armed themselves with knowledge and those who heeded the warnings. Their patience will soon be rewarded appropriately with their the iPhone 3G[S].
*
even IF maxis ran out, they have access to tonnes of refurbished units (packed in those yucky brown boxes with distinctive serial numbers)

Actually not all replacement units are refurbished units, indeed it comes with a lousy brown box but new or refurbish comes with the same box.
*
but the brown box is enough to turn me off, new or refurbished tongue.gif

of course, it depends on whether your local dealer could cope with the current demand. fair bit aside, if they do have adequate inventory when your problem arises, you are likely to go home with a new unit. if not, it is just too bad (as stipulated in the T & C)
QUOTE
If a hardware defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option and to the extent permitted by law, Apple will either (1) repair the hardware defect at no charge, using new parts or parts equivalent to new in performance and reliability, (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) refund the purchase price of the product.
if my memory hasn't failed, refurbished units have serial number starting with "5K" (from here and here)
