Just got my i3G, 8GB. Is it normal that the Home button feels a little hard to press? Other than that, I'll be enjoying 500MB free data every month.

You know, someone in Maxis told me that even the third-generation iPhone is out and Maxis would still be selling the current ones until April-June 2010. Well, just wait and see.

If I have some defective issues a few days after I purchase and found the problems, can I ask for a one to one exchange from Maxis?
The main issues are light leaks from the screen around the metal bezel, hard to press the Home button, and the infamous yellow tinted screen. Found out that the demo unit is perfect and does not have any of the problems at all. Or maybe it's because of the batch model that I have so which batch is better overall? MB489ZA/A MB496ZA/A MB500ZA/A According to the three batch available to SingTel & Maxis, which is better and has almost no defects on the iPhone 3G at all? MB489ZA/A MB496ZA/A MB500ZA/A |

QUOTE(teikwing @ Jun 4 2009, 12:45 AM) not sure about the hard-to-press Home button, but the issue of light leakage from the screen around chrome bezel is a common issue faced by iPhone users all around the world. try googling around and you will find tons of complaints from iPhone users. even by exchanging with a new set, for most of them, the problem still persist and for some, even worse than before. IINM, there is this user from the States which exchange it for 8 times and the same problem exist in all of the sets. Well, I'm aware of these worldwide hardware issues that iPhone 3G owners are having. You would want a perfect condition phone right? The demo units are perfect in every Maxis centre that I've been to, isn't that ironic?anyway, you can try a 1-to-1 exchange with Maxis and see whether is the issue exist on the new set. and make sure you check on the spot. you don't want a newly exchanged set which has more serious problems than that you've owned. Hopefully I'm able to get a one to one exchange. |

From what I found, those who are using firmware 2.0 build 5A435 has the yellow tinted screen problem where 5A437 has none. Will post an update here soon, we'll see how Maxis handle this issue.
Added on June 4, 2009, 1:09 pmI wonder why Apple Malaysia does not allow one-to-one exchange policy, but instead just change the unit itself. This post has been edited by Mike3300: Jun 4 2009, 01:09 PM |

Well, I got my replacement unit. So far so good. Screen is slightly better and the Home button works as it should when press on. However, yellow tinted is still there but not that bright and light leaks are minimal now. I guess iPhone 3G's worldwide QC is not that thorough.

QUOTE(teikwing @ Jun 5 2009, 06:35 PM) Well, they claim that if I bought it on that day and found problems the same day of purchase then I might be eligible for 1-1 exchange. Apple Malaysia usually does not allow 1-1 exchange though, same goes to Mac & iPod devices.By the way, mine has a USA batch model. How come it can be fully unlock? Maybe refurbished unit? In Settings>General>About>Carrier it shows (null) (null) where it is suppose to show Maxis 3.1. Done with hardware issues, now with software issues. Added on June 5, 2009, 7:15 pmSo in my case: Home button, light leaks, & yellow tinted screen issues are on Singapore batch model. Now: Having an official unlocked unit but the origin of the phone is from USA, weird indeed. This post has been edited by Mike3300: Jun 5 2009, 07:16 PM |

Just when I thought I would have an ease of mind with official unlocked unit and official warranty, tomorrow's weekend. I'm gonna holler them up again by Monday. This sucks though.
Added on June 6, 2009, 3:31 amYes, when I boot up the phone. It says activation needed and the the staff just proceeded with the activation. Mine's this: MB046LL/A Added on June 6, 2009, 3:33 amWell, something is just not right though. Something's fishy going on. This post has been edited by Mike3300: Jun 6 2009, 03:33 AM |

The new still has flaws though. When I plug in my headphone jack, it will start to auto play my songs starting with title 'A'. Does anyone here have the same problem?kindly read through this thread. this issue has been discussed previously. @Mike3300: if yours is an US set, this might confirm the rumour that Maxis staff has some unlocking software for locked phones. To be honest, Maxis is not doing well with the iPhone 3G. Most of the Malaysians already know about the iPhone, thanks to Maxis bringing in and launched it here even it's quite late.
Looking at the sales, it's very disappointing actually. There's no point for another telco to join in the sales as that telco will sell it at sky high prices as well as Maxis is doing right now. They want to earn more money with the iPhone. Unless Apple wants to change to another telco if Maxis fails hard but looking at our country, Maxis will remain for quite some time. |

Well, maybe I've mistaken it with the nationwide sales. As I recall, perhaps my contacts were telling me on the only state they're selling.

Actually not all replacement units are refurbished units, indeed it comes with a lousy brown box but new or refurbish comes with the same box.
