bought iphone quite long ago, but use it like normal phone usage din really fully use it. consider still newbie to iphone.

as i know jail break means allow u to use 3rd party software in ur iphone.

but what does it means? does it means if u don jail break means u totally cant use any app from cydia/installer???
only can use those app from apple store?

i dont really know deeper regarding this iphone, just normal usage like normal phone atm. nvr sync to my pc more than 3 times.
been sync to my pc once or twice when 1.1.4 FW. and sync to my pc 2 days ago when 2.1 FW.

so couple weeks ago my friend help me to upgrade into FW 2.1 as some of u ady know.
then 2 days ago i just thought of sync to my pc thinking to put some video clip inside. so then i sync it to my pc.
they ask me 2 option... about my iphone. "1, sync as new iphone" "2, sync as old iphone". or something like this.
initially im not really sure what are all those. so i just click sync as old iphone. or what exact sentence i couldnt really remember.
then the next thing i notice is all my stuff inside are back to the moment when im on 1.1.4 FW.

when my friend help me to upgrade to 2.1FW, he use iphone browser... back up my contacts, sms, photo. restore and JB. upon upgrade he put back those my contact sms and photo thingy.
so then this time after i click sync as old iphone, all my stuff back to the moment when i sync in 1.1.4 FW. i lost my most recent sms. i lost some of my contact which i add in later. lost my notes too. back to old notes. back to those song that i sync on 1.1.4 FW... etc...

im not here to ask how can i get back my stuff which i add it later on. guess i cant anyway.

but just for my knowleadge. i hope to know how do we back up our iphone data into pc through itune? i know i sync into my pc when im on 1.1.4 FW. but i dont know what exactly i click which makes my pc back up those stuff. i right click on the eject icon beside my iphone there. i saw there is 1 button back up or something. i click that and i saw it write back up. but does it means it back up everythings??? contacts, sms, notes, photo, song, movie, etc etc??? or they just back up certain thing???

if we can back up in this way, so means we can just restore on our pc? restore then unlock jailbreak then after settle everything we can simply click sync as old phone to get back our old data??? or? should we save another back up files out through ssh before we restore??

also may i know where are those back up files from itune goes?? coz if we format pc? we got to keep those sync data right??? where can i make copy of it?

then is there any way for us to view our contacts number on itune without sync?? i mean... now u plug in sync into the pc. after that u plug out. then can u see ur contacts and their number over the itune?? coz i remember there is once i saw my colleague contacts over the itune on his pc. @.@ ask him but he tells me he also unsure how he made it =.='''



for my case, after my friend help me restore, unlock, JB... once i sync by sync as old phone. it instantly overwrite my data, include message wo... seems different from u say a bit? i mean i know is good can get back the sms upon restore but anyone knows how? coz i dono what i did last time on 1.1.4FW. i nvr right click eject button and click back up.
even my song also auto sync back for me as i nvr change the file location on pc.

can anyone clear my doubts pls???

umm my friend help me upgrade without sync wo.. i guess... coz he copy paste back my old info by iphone browser, not by sync in itune.
btw where are those data files back up copy to when i sync with itune?
any way to make itune don auto sync when i run itune with iphone plug it? i preffer it to ask me everytime i plug in. i uncheck on auto sync on main page, but it doesn seems to work though. everytime i plug in iphone, i run itune then it is there already. sync jo.
