I watched it on Friday night and Saturday afternoon and surprisingly the halls weren't even half full. Guess not too many people are pumped up for this.
I was expecting it to be crowded like when Furious7 was released since people who like those kinda movies will probably also come to see this. But there wasn't even any queue during the weekend.

A lot of them don't know or even heard of Mad Max because the last movie was like 30 years ago

As much as giving all the love to George Miller, it's worth noting the studio did stand behind the problematic production and topping up budget as things got behind schedule many times over. They insist to reshoot second half of the movie after seeing the first 42 mins because of how much they believe in it.
Let's hope the movie will have legs to see through fast tracking of sequel/s. Mad Furiosa's script already brewing according to some of the candid interview.

Tom Hardy signed on to play Mad Max 3 more times but it depends on how well the movies does.

So far its looking pretty good.

Pitch Perfect 2 beat Mad Max at no 1 in the U.S. Box office by a huge margin. lol

It's the other way round in the global box office though.

Oh and if you watch it in IMAX, you get to see the Batman VS Superman trailer and also like a 15 minute clip from Tomorrowland which was pretty cool.

A sequel might not be confirmed yet but the planned title is Mad Max: The Wasteland. Furiosa might not return though.

I suggest you guys watch the trilogy first.

Me a Gibson fan tongue.gif

Not really fond on the trilogy but it was ok.

For what it's worth, Gibson was one handsome Max tongue.gif

like most said...easily the best NON STOP ACTION MOVIE over the past years (not only this year). imaging a solid 2 hours filled with eyes popping mind blowing actions!

been so long since there's a movie with real stunts and not relying on special effects..

i hope this movie does well that it quickly secure a sequel..and i like furiosa more than max..so hopefully both of them will be in the sequel.

I see, I came to watch this movie without even knowing there was a previous trilogy around it.

Was kinda confused as well of all those past ghost that haunted max especially the little kid. Does the old trilogy explains it all?

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Okay, I stealing a phrase from Ron Weasley by saying, THIS MOVIE IS MENTAL!!!!!!

I actually did not want to go see this.

I am NOT a fan of the original movie series.

Why?

It is just so... BLEAK!!!!

And By Jove, BLEAK it is...

Filming took place in Namib Desert, Namibia and Australia, so from a scenic point of view, it is breathtaking (believe it or not, it is difficult to make the desert look nice. You either have to film very early in the morning, or as the sun sets. Filming at noon, the desert look flat.) So needless to say it was probably tough making this movie.

Another trend is, the movie looks like it was film practical. (with several exceptions) which adds to it.

Charlize Theron is supposed to be one of the highly paid actors at this point in time and I feel, the success of this movie is partly due to her ability to sell her role.

As for her counterpart... Tom Hardy's Max Rockatansky, is a little... subdue...

After his bigger then life role Bane, it took a little while to get use to.

For the Monster Truck derby fans out there (whom I assume is the target audience for this movie). The pure vehicle carnage in this movie, with send even the most jaded amongst you to roller derby heaven...

So, did I like the movie...

I am of two minds.

On one hand, as a movie, I respect how much effort it must have took to get the movie done. The filmmakers dedication to the movie literally bleeds out of the movie.

On the other, it really is not my cup of tea (Fast and Furious anyone)

I will give this it, it is pure and unadulterated chaos... And there are people who would truly appreciate this.

My Two Sen

To those who wants a little backstory, do give this a try.

It fills the blank of the two lieutenants of Immortan Joe and the origins of Nux. It shows a little bit of the milk maidens and the reason for the wives. It's not overly preachy and long winded. Pretty good read. The next one is about Furiosa and I believed these comics are from George Miller's production notes.
