qoute from multiplay 2.0 (26 of February year 2009)

According to Guinness World Record 2009: Gamer’s Edition - page 177, the current record for longest mass-participation LAN Party is 36 hours and was done by 203 gamers at NVISION 2008. Looks like the record is going to be broken in few months time at our own backyard.

The longest LAN Party record breaking attempt will be held at an event called Cyber Fusion, organized by AMD, Cyberview Sdn. Bhd., GameGen and Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) with collaboration from Game Developers’ Club (GDC) of Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya. This event will take place from Friday, 10th April until Sunday, 12th April at Grand Hall, MMU Cyberjaya.

Breaking records will not the only thing to be done at Cyber Fusion. Other activities will include GameFest’09 by GDC which incorporated Boardgames, Cybergames and Game Development sections. Cyber Fusion itself will have a tournament featuring Call of Duty 4, Counter-Strike 1.6, DoTA and FIFA’09, with cash prizes said to be in total of more than RM 45,000!

Right now, details are still pretty sketchy, apart from those that we wrote above. The event information actually was not made known directly, instead it was (partly) revealed by GDC’s announcement of next week’s E-Sport 09, whereby top two teams or players from FIFA’09, CS1.6 and DoTA will be seeded directly into Top 16 of Cyber Fusion.

Do look forward to more information about the event, once we received more of it at the press conference, scheduled to be held at Cyberjaya next Friday, 6th March - as told by GameGen’s representative in a short phone conversation yesterday. They also wish to invite fellow gamers that are interested to participate in the record breaking attempt to the conference as well, so keep an eye on Multiplay periodically for updates.

update 5 of March year 2009

We finally able to confirmed the launch conference of Cyber Fusion, where an attempt to break the Guinness World Records for longest mass-participation LAN Party would take place in April. Speaking to the one of the event’s organizer - GameGen yesterday, the launch will take place at Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa in Cyberjaya tomorrow, 6th March from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.

While the full nature of the Cyber Fusion will only be unveiled at the launch event, GameGen did shed some light on few of the technical details behind the attempt. For the record to be fully accepted by Guinness World Records, the number of participants and the number of hours must exceed the current record (duh,) which is 203 gamers and 36 hours respectively.

Cyber Fusion planned to clock 38 hours (that’s 1 full day and 14 hours) and is now looking for 250 gamers that willing to join the event. Since a LAN Party is officially defined as Bring-Your-Own-Computer gathering, participants will have to bring their own PC - regardless of parts manufacturer for those who concerned, to the event venue at Grand Hall, MMU Cyberjaya. There are more details involved but these three alone has already showed how big this event going to be.

As mentioned in the previous post, registration for Cyber Fusion world record attempt will be open during the launch event itself. So, if you got what it takes to show the world that Malaysian gaming community is alive and kicking, see you in Cyberview Lodge this Friday.

One question, do you have to be at the launch at Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa itself to register or you can just register through the internet itself?

Edit: Just found out, if you want first-hand registration,be at the launch tomorrow, 6th of March,Friday. Not sure of other means of registration but I'm guessing it would be online.

The mmugdc from Live Chat on their website replied.

mmugdc : Requirement? sure got: 1)You have passions 2)You like to play games 3)You want to help Malaysia to break the Guinness World Record. and, no, you don't have to join Gamefest in order for you to join LAN party. Non-Malaysian are allowed to join too. Through website registration, you can find the info tomorrow, or on saturday, after the launch, on newspaper, radio, TV, forums, etc etc

Just a bit of clarification for those who were not there at the launch.

For One Nation Invitational (the tournament part of CyberFusion), AFAIK, you don't need to bring your own PC. AMD will provide this for you guys, the tournament heads. nod.gif

Also, you can't join tournament and the record breaking at the same time. You see, the record breaking attempt is held at a barricaded area where every movement in and out of this area will be logged. Plus, for each hour, you only get 5 minute break. Although this 5 min can be accumulated (38 hours = 4 hours of break), but it's not enough for you to play with your team.

I know some asked MDeC or some of GameGen pple and they said can, but really, try to take a second and give a thought on it since both will be held simultaneously. nod.gif

Of course, this is AFAIK. Subject to change...you know the drill. laugh.gif

Because record breaking got some many steps wan...like I mentioned, got log book, timer all. Guinness' guideline pretty taxing.
Usually, tournament participants would need to step out, discuss gameplan with teammates outside the area etc etc, so I don't think it's viable.

Also, I believe the tournament slot is not that big...so those who didn't get to join the tournament, could be part of the record breaking participants. Again, this is strictly AFAIK. laugh.gif
