Direct Access is only targeted at professional market... and it's normal tht not all people will know about DA.

A Visa or Master Card is still a card, as long as the swipe can go thru
*
Well yea, as I've said in previous pages, I don't really have qualms with the card, pretty much my main card I use for the moment. Just bugged me a lil when the guy was taking forever to see if my card would qualify for the 0% installment thingie CIMB was having with Toyota.

Got to agree with the above. The CS ppl you'll encounter are well, regular ppl. Although there'll be a general trend, you can't exactly say CIMB has crappy CS because of certain cases, you just encountered the wrong person. Probably it's just that foreign banks are more particular with the ppl they hire, or train their staff better, so the likelihood of getting a bad response is minimal. Doesn't discount the fact that you might encounter someone from these banks who had a real bad day and decides to be a pain in the behind.

Once again, it's easy but probably not accurate to judge a corporation, especially a big one, by a single employee. Most big corporations, especially service providers would stress this to their employees in the induction phase, that they are the face of the corporation. But still, you get exceptions,no? To a certain extent, I can emphatize with this. I'm in the service providing line as well, and often a single slip up can get ppl going like "you xxx ppl ah,etc etc". You know, one bad apple spoils the bunch laugh.gif

Ignoring CS, I don't think all cards by the banks are the same. Different banks probably have different emphasis. CIMB seems to going alot with the free for life trend, and they have decent partnerships with various merchants to get discounts. Another bank with good discounts imo would be HSBC.

Citibank, well is probably more classy, so to speak. They're well recognised, and they have loads of things like the access to the airport lounge, gold on call and stuff like that.

Just imo of course laugh.gif

HSBC rewards is not evergreen. It is valid only 2 - 3 years.

Hmm thought there was another foreign bank that has evergreen points. Can't seem to recall which,if there is one apart from Citibank

Any chance he gave a reason for his advice?

KFC one i thought Mastercard pay pass...

Yes, KFC uses paypass. But I thought VisapayWave was a combination of visawave and paypass.

Nevertheless, I've tried to ask if I could use my paypass at KFC and Starbucks and both the cashier just told me that I couldn't sweat.gif

Heard this many times. I think HSBC better just state this T&C in their website and credit card application form. Just ask any businessmen out there, they all would prefer black and white as well.
Eh ? I thought all KFC outlets in Malaysia are using CIMB Bank terminal ? Thus it only supports Mastercard PayPass.
It's different. Maybank terminal only supports VISA Paywave.
If my memory serves me correctly, Starbucks Malaysia are using HSBC terminal and HSBC terminal supports neither.
*
Erm, I was under the impression that visapaywave allows you to use both, as per david below. not too sure on this though.

And thought i saw one in Starbucks gardens recently. Unless I daydreaming lol.

Edit : Did some quick googling and I think Malaysia Starbucks has it, as per link here

It's true that Visa paywave is a combo feature for Visa Wave and Mastercard Paypass. I have no problem of using Paypass card at KFC. Just want to try on a Paywave card.
*
Which KFC was that? Probably cause the cashier in Klang (the one I tried) didn't know how to use it sweat.gif

i'll take it as a cc, coz no way you will want to utilise the debit card functionality of the card

Probably the debit card functionality to be used would be the ATM function, withdrawing cash from current a/c instead of cash advance smile.gif

more card = more risk?

Yes, for the bank.

More cards = More credit limit = Higher max spending/month = Higher difficulty in repayment = Higher possibility of default

Well HSBC seems to be promoting rather heavily recently, being seeing them in Gardens, and saw them (and Citibank) at Curve today. (talkin bout credit cards)

Probably going through these agents would give you a higher chance?

QUOTE(lin00b @ May 18 2009, 11:31 AM)
comparison between MBB petronas and CIMB petronas. (Citibank Shell is a rip off as you need to maintain loan balance to get high cashback - which would be eaten by the interest anyway)

MBB: approx 2200 - 3000 points for RM10 vouchers
rm1 = 5 points when pumping petrol
therefore return of 1.67% to 2.27% on petrol
rm1 = 1 point for others
therefore return of 0.33% to 0.45% on others

compared with 2% return on petrol and 0.5% return on others for CIMB petronas
*
Returns on Citibank Shell Gold card without brought forward balance is :-

2.5% on petrol
0.75% on others

Think the standard card is roughly the same as CIMB petronas (once again, talking bout without brought forward)

Comparing with the above, how is that a rip off?

I also like their discount at ISETAN, KFC and much more. But i hate their customer service and the fact that i need to pay the courier charges when they ship my shopping vouchers to me. They said they need to revert the courier charges to me because their credit card if free for life. ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? Basically all Malaysian banks are offering free for life credit card nowadays ...  mad.gif
Agreed.
Impossible to waive the annual fee ? And the hideous card design  laugh.gif

Coz it's a co branded card? Hmm was under the impression that it was waivable. Well, don't know really with that card, so can't ask them. Plus it's kinda like 1st year waiver or somethin rite biggrin.gif

Ah ok, the hideous card design totally justifies it I suppose, lol

Meh Citibank told me I can only get a regular card since I don't meet their min requirement for a gold. Was hoping my high claims (mileage) per month would do the trick, but they told me to use a regular for 6 months then request for upgrade -.-

Oh well

I prefer cash rebate because once the amount reaches RM20, your rebate will be reflected in the next month bill. No need to request for it. Some months I'm getting more than RM100 rebate and with the AF waiver, it's a good deal to me.
*
When it reaches RM20, it'll be set off against your next Shell petrol purchase, right?

For conventional cards, your interest is added to principal, and subsequent interest calculated on the new balance, i.e:

RM1,000 outstanding attracting say, RM20 interest

Your new balance for the next interest calculation would be RM1,020.

Non compounding basically is suppose to mean that interest is not added to principal, thus in the example above, interest is always calculated on the RM1,000

Don't think alot of us here are impressed with our local banks, especially when it comes to CCs, but for frequent movie goers, it would save them a decent amount,no?

Was looking at the webbie briefly, it seems like with Bonus Value, plat and gold members get rm100 and rm60 each to use on tickets (50% of tic price max per transaction). For plat members on average of rm10/movie, that's go for 10 movies, free 10 movies =p

On one hand you may be right about the movie. I'm a movie fan too but these days too busy with work and now downgrade to just watching it @ home only.
*
Haha yea, was thinkin bout getting it. But then I hardly get to catch a movie these days, unlike college days where I could do it once or more a week.

Hmm but since there's a waiver for the first year, and probably ppl who already have cards will only use it for movies, it's not too bad I suppose, to save some bucks

Is there any limit of how many tickets you have to purchase if pay by CC?

Hmm not too sure, never really went alone or anything before. Most recently we went in a group of 3, and signed with UOB one card with no problems. Don't think they have a min number of tics rule for usage of CC
