so i went gunung rajah today...
however, i failed to even make it to the river crossing as we took wrong trail a few times and we could not find the river crossing...
first blunder was, we could not locate entrance to trail, which i now know is between the shed and the changing rooms

so far so good then, we took wrong turning, bringing us down to the dam cleaning area instead of turning right at the red earth area
we traced back our steps and went into jungle trails.

thought might arrive at water crossing, but no water crossing at all!
reached here tho...

Attached Image

very dangerous to cross so did not do so...
did i overshot it or the crossing is further up?

so my dreams of conquering gunung rajah were shot! sweat.gif
but we all did have alot of fun tho
will go again once i get more information or a guide blush.gif

hi..  I just went to Rajah last friday rclxms.gif
first, you need hiking permit to climb mount rajah. second, you need mountain guide to lead you the way. please join Geng Aura Gunung FB for more details
*
thank you for your help!
i can't seem to locate your fb page...
care to share link here?
i usually travel with my dog for companionship so i usually look for guides who don't mind being around dogs biggrin.gif
but i would not mind hiking for first time experience up gunung rajah, preferably all in a day's hike

try those tat have heart beat detector one..at least u can monitor ur physical meter..(i saw them on sport shoe shop most of the time)
or u can head those those hiking equipment shop, they should have some selection..

for me i jz use a old G-shock solar watch..as long it can resist some impact force (jz in case) tat will do fine  laugh.gif
*
cos i use ipod nano as watch as well as my running watch as it has the nike+ in it
then when we were crossing river, i realised such expensive watch tongue.gif
better get own watch, later difficult to explain.

i looked at suunto core and suunto ambit2
looks really good but the charging really puts it off
plus the price... shocking.gif

Guys, this might sound weird/disgusting. But I would like to know how do you guys handle such situation.

Given the scenario you go for one whole day hike in the middle of the jungle & suddenly you have to answer to the mother nature call. How do you solve the problem? Anyone encounter such situation before?
*
well, i think there should be no problem as everyone would have to "release" sooner or later
as one of the female counterpart, i do not like squatting while i pee, so i got myself the whizz freedom
so now i just go to some secluded area, face some tree, say excuse me and pee while standing laugh.gif
the thought of something jumping up to bite my buttocks is really scary biggrin.gif
but must really take notice so that we do not defecate near streams or campsites
if i am not mistaken, should be 200m away...

as for pooping, i have not done so yet, so no report on my behalf

Gunung Rajah you do not need guide. Park at Chamang waterfall and from the parking, there is a route on your right hand side which climb up hill. Climb up a lil while and you will come across the dirt route which will take you to Lata Naning (mid point to Gunung Rajah). The only confusing part is during the river trek but should be well marked.

Wish to follow you for Gunung Nuang although it is been a while since I last hike but better opt to rest my legs for KOTR 2013. Cheers.

last time i hiked was also gunung rajah
passed lata laning
but then could not find the river crossing sad.gif

oh hey, i'm going AKOTR too!!! 10km run only tho hehehe

Oh an air matress. Not cheap thou if you want a good type. It depends on the thickness and the weight of the air mattress. Are you willing to fork out around RM800+ for one?
*
WOW! ohmy.gif
that is really pricey!
maybe something cheaper where i wouldn't mind if it ripped or got lost laugh.gif
from your experience, what would you recommend?
because this is my first time camping, gunung nuang kem lolo, and i wanna travel light nod.gif

Cheap but heavy. Can try to find those at AEON, especially at Mid Valley. I think it is located at the First Floor near the toilet inside AEON.

Other cheap option will be a yoga mat. Trust me most opt for this as it is cheap and light, but you would not able to get a comfortable sleep throughout the night as you could feel the surface.

Why not camp somewhere cooler like Cameron Highland? You provide the transportation for me and I will be your guide to those mountains. LOL  smile.gif .
*
WOAH!!! i might take you up on that offer! but now rainy season, better stay put smile.gif
so i went outdoor shopping today at Explorer Outfitter, Publika.
love the amount of things they sell there
many choices, from expensive rm200++ waterproof socks to (maybe as good as original, yet to try) china products.

they sell many of their products with their explorer logo on it, was tempted to buy but not yet.
bought the sleeping mat at rm64.90, one 3litre akona dry bag rm37 and one microfiber towel rm29.90.
sleeping mat seems fine at 900g,
yet to test the akona dry bag and towel, will do it when i get it back from neighbour who pinjam to see-see.
towel seems like the sea to summit towel which i have so i can test the new one to see if it is as good onot...

soon...

now all i'm left is a 2person tent rclxub.gif

I got mine from one of the LYN member.
Do take note the size though. Usually you'll have to go for few sizes smaller.
The seller will offer to bring a couple of pair for you to try.

QUOTE(McFD2R @ Jul 7 2015, 05:13 PM)
Just to share bit on the Mount KK hike. Many years ago, I trained at Batu Caves for my hike. Started off with only 1.5 round (up and down = 1 round) and at my peak after 2 months of twice or thrice weekly climbs, I could do 7 rounds non-stop. I was bloody happy and feeling fit.

I'm someone who sweats and get hot super easily. And I love cold weathers. Took the Mesilau route and though I took my time amongst the 4 of us, my legs did well and didn't feel strained at all.

We started our climb to the peak at around 2:15 am and weather was great. And the moment we started the first several flight of stairs, I started sweating profusely which I expected already. My mistake however was unzipping my jacket, even just a little. My inside T-shirt was wet due to sweat and when wind blew, it gave me a chill that I could not shake off.

After the checkpoint, my legs was doing well, but every several steps, I kept having the shivers. Soon, my body gave up and it was my mind that kept me going. But I think 800 meters from peak, I did not stop shivering and eventually gave up and went back down to the check point hut. Went inside, and continued shivering for the next hour. When light came ard 7am, I started my hike back down, with tears flowing down my cheeks.

My mistake ..
1. I should have brought a spare T-shirt to replace my sweat soaked tee.
2. Should not have unzipped my jacket.
3. After resting, I should not have went down, but make my way up instead even if I was on my own. I didn't think about it then because I was so disappointed with myself that I didn't make it up there with my friends.

Just sharing so that no one makes the same mistake I did ... one of my regrets in life.
*
thanks for sharing! i am planning to go Mount KK as well but only next year as i am now training as well.

Hi all,

I am considering to start an eCommerce site particularly to sell outdoor gears related items in Malaysia. Some examples are like REI.com and Backcountry.

Hence, I would like to get your view on such idea and your thoughts on such on the following:

  • What are your current pain-points when it comes to shopping on such outdoor gears around in KL for your adventures in and out of the country?
  • Would you prefer to shop online for such items considering the fact that they are genuine, has warranty and cheaper than offline stores?
  • What are your thoughts on the current offline/brick-and-mortar outdoor stores around in KL?
Thank you for your feedback!
*
1. The pain: i have to go from shop to shop just to get a few items because one shop does not sell all that i need, some is just crazily overpriced.

2. YES, PLEASE.

3. I think they are great as they kinda specialise in a few stuff and they can share their customer or personal experience with you when you are shopping. Other than that, my hands kinda gatal wanna hold the product before buying tongue.gif

I would definitely love to buy from a reputable online shop from the comfort of my home, and if it is really, REALLY like Rei, I would be super glad!
