depending on:

your monitor size
whether u wanna play very graphic hungry games
if your psu can handle more powerful GC

btw, here's more pics of the 65nm and 55nm GTX260 coolers

*
next month sure still have stock lah... but really.. I dun see why u should avoid 55nm GTX260, if the price is right just go for it.

wow, seems like my last post in the old thread regarding 55nm ociblility provoked a debate and discussion that results a new thread and its in page 5 already!  tongue.gif jk

back to topic, well, technically thinking i thought 55nm would be more efficient than the 65nm, but after reading from here seems like most 65nm (for nvidia case) seems to oc better than the 55nm.

and as for the heatsink/heatpipe/backplate thing with the 260, is it just with 260 only or the same reduce of heatsink/heatpipe/backplate issue with the 280 and 285?

thanks!
*
Yah, that's what they claimed.

Cooler wise for gtx 285 and 280. Afaik, i only know that 285 doesnt have a backplate like 280. But not sure about the hsf design though...

Actually if price is the main concern, going for gtx 280 would b a wise choice

Yeah.. But still, gtx285 > gtx280 in terms of performance.. (but not by far) gtx280 selling cheap now as gtx285 is the replacement model for it.. But I do miss the sexy backplate though.. sad.gif
*
If you ask me, I would just go for the GTX 285. why look back.

what i'm saying is that if someone is thinking of buying either GTX 285 or GTX 280. better go for GTX 285. those already GTX 280 just keep their GC, coz it's pointless to upgrade and a waste of money, just so that we can get 2-3 fps boost... smile.gif

no problem dude
first test and see whether ure card can run

mine now is ftw..

y i like the evga is only because of the evga precision tools to monitor and control the gc temp etc..

last few pages a lot of rubbish from ppl who has so few cards and know nothing.
*
bro mind to shed some of your view on 65nm vs 55nm?

QUOTE(cstkl1 @ Mar 3 2009, 06:37 PM)
702.. about the same as the zotac amp version couldnt go higher
that time the voltage tuner thingy was not out yet so didnt try
basically the 55nm also has lower 3 clocks, 3vid's.. this address the higher power consumption rate..
yes nvidia also cut cost with changing the pwm buck controller from volttera to intersil.
and yes they also reduce the cooling performance of the stock fan.

but on the other hand look at the mem chips.. they are better binned, smaller and all one side of the card.

a gtx280 can be overclocked as far as a gtx285 interms of cpu clock speed only
shader and especially mem speed.. gtx285 .. is king.

i run my gtx285 100% fan speed all the time.. and its not even noisy..
my coolit pump is much nosier.
the gtx280 was much noisier..

also gtx280 hard to do a vmod but the gtx285 is easy..
ive clocked mine on profile up to 776/1720/2404..
but the heat it produce was incredible
so far stock cooling at 100% fan speed 720/1620/1390 seems to be under 79C without aircon..
so will stick to that.
3dmark06 with ht is already 29k in xp
and 3dmark06 without ht in is already 27k in vista
what else could i want kekeke

thanks cstkl1 bro, that really enligthens me notworthy.gif

Bro cstkl1, so that means the GTX 285 will never be able to work with the EVGA voltage tuner? since 285 uses the Intersil ISL6327. No wonder GTX 280 is in the supported list instead of GTX 285

just vmod edit the bios and flash it.. whats so hard..
i normally hate software overclocks. cause its inconsistent and also depends on the software running int he background

yup gtx285, gtx260 55nm will never be able to ..

dont set the vid table in the bios unless u know what ure doing..

when i say vmod its physical vmod of the card

warrantty easy.. if card dying
just blind flash the card back to the original bios
and take off the soldering work uve done ( take note u got to be good with this.. its not hard just some kemahiran hidup at work here)

gtx295 however u can change vid in the bios
*
u also mentioned that u edit the bios. which software are u using for editing bro?

use nibitor to edit nvidia bios

except for gtx295/gtx285 u need nibitor 4.9..
only available for download if u donate a certain amount..

to flash use nvflash
run in bootdisk .. floppy.. usb.
commands are easy
nvflash -i(0,1,2,3,4,5.. gpu) -4 ( overide the protection) -5 -6 (name of bios).rom
to backup
nvflash -b -i(01,2,3,4,5..gpu) (name of bios example backup.rom).rom

gtx 295 or sli systems

example like me
nvflash -b -i0 zotac1.rom backup second card
nvflash -i0 -4 -5 -6 ftw.rom for first card
nvflash -b -i1 zotac2.rom backup second card
nvflash -i1 -4 -5 -6 ftw.rom for second card

gtx 295 should be the same.

take note its ure risk to find the correct bios etc and trust the person who gave it to u.

have fun
*
omg thanks bro. at least I get the idea now.
but yah, that's why I was wondering about Nibitor 4.9. I can only find 4.8. Guess I will just have to wait a bit. so far, I'm quite satisfied with the GTX 295's performance. even at stock voltage of 1.038V gives enough juice to push from 576/1242/999 to 658/1418/1105, and it's not even the maximum. Only that sometimes my hands gatal, just feel like pushing its limit and see how far it can go.

Want to ask, Is GTS250 going to perform better than 9800GTX+?

Since GTS250 is here, by right the price of 9800GTX+ should drop right?

The performance is benchmark against HD4850 right?
*
Gts250 is pretty much a 9800gtx+ with a slightly higher oc and smaller remade pcb. Nothing more. This is even dumber than upgrading from gtx 280 to gtx 285, as for gtx 285 we get 55nm chip with more potential. Gts250 is just part of their marketing strategy to make their product lineup looks good. AFAIK, galaxy alrdy released a version of shorter pcb for the 9800gtx+, just in case if u all thought that gts250 new pcb awes you. But it's about time they officialized the new shorter pcb version, which the longer pcb doesnt even justify for its performance, lol

Will the new gts250 require lower power than gtx+ does? Moreover gts250 needs only one 6 pin power plug.
*
Yes the power requirement is less, but not at a significant amount. Why dun u try google around for gts250 review? There r alrdy tonnes of them all over the web. smile.gif

Hell no. Must uninstall the driver 1st. Install the card, then reinstall the same driver. FYI forceware 182.08 is out. But not much diff compare to 182.06. Only added support to new cards such as gts250

no i didn't say that it is your gc's problem bro... since when did i say that...

why dun u try reinstalling the game. or just simply get another game to try. rule out all the possibility one at a time.

guys..182.06/182.08 show big improvements??

currently using 181.20..

according to the release note, there are approx 10% increase in preformance for quite a few games. who cares whether u can notice any diff, I just download the driver just bcoz it's new. besides, updating your driver is always a good thing (well, most of the time sweat.gif , except for some hiccups which even created bug rarely by developer itself)
