hello. i'm was following this thread from v2 and i have to say that it is really an interesting thread.

i have a few questions. i caught a scorpion in my room last night and decided to keep it as a pet. i think it is a malaysian forest scorpions from the identification that is given to me.

i just want to ask if there is any special needs for it. i'm keeping it in a container with a substrate made of fine saw dust+ sand. i put in a drinking area and also made sure that the substrate is moist.

it is a feisty little fellow. very aggressive. it is about 2 inches long.

what can i feed it? i tried to feed the scorp, grasshoppers but he just let the grass hopper sit on top of of it's body.

and are scorpions of this species not active? i see this fellow always like sleeping. but the sting is always up like a radar.

thanks for any replies.

this is the one that i told you about. i found it in the middle of sibu town on a busy street full of people. luckily no children step on it and got stung.

so what do you guys think. asian forest scorpion or malaysian forest scorpion? 15 cm long from head to tip of sting.

i'm really having problem with flickr. enjoys these 2 for the time being.

h.longimanus is the latin name right.

Added on May 17, 2009, 8:02 pmoh and the saw dust substrate is not actually normal sawdust. it is a mix of belian and chengal wood. nice fragrance. holds moisture nicely and the scorpions like to burrow into them in their hide out.

i will try to find more of the said species considering i'm living in thier back yard.a couple of friends said they spotted scorp in their work place which is a wood shop. will try to poke around to see if any is there.

this is the one that i caught earlier. you can see the sawdust that i'm using. i tend to like this sawdust because it can hold the water beneath and be dry at the top or moist at the top but dry beneath.

i would like to add that i'm not an experience scorpion handler or owner. these are my first scorpions. the reason i have these 2 was because i didn't want them to hurt or get hurt the people around them.

a question if i may, is it normal for scorpion to play with their drinking water? both of my scorpions like to play in their drinking bowl.

sorry for the poor drawing. not an art person. but is this layout good enough. becoz i think that forest scorpion like to sit in burrows until they are ready to hunt. correct me if i'm wrong and plz photochop the pic for any suggestion.

aiyoh. like that ar. i know that they have really slow metabolism but didn't think it was that slow. haih. then i think i will just breed the meal worm that i just bought.

after reading like almost he whole thread i have come to a conclusion that scorpions are:

1.awesome
2.cute
3.easy to take care for.
4.characteristic.
5.cheap to take care.
6.if they give birth then you have like a dozen of them.

herping in sarawak? the sad truth is that the people here practise burning and farming. so most of the insects and creatures are dead or already extinct in the area.

i can give you a walk down an area in my place and you will have troubl eeven to find a single grasshopper or milipede which i regard as the most common insect there is after the ants.

if you guys really want to do herping in sarawak then it will take us really deep into the jungle. and the deeper the jungle the higher the risk. navigating in unfamiliar terrain in the dark is not recomended even by experts.

i'm not an expert but from this interesting reading , it stated that no hybrid of the Heterometrus have ever been documented.

a question for collectors.

what determines what scorpion do you buy next?
what size it can grow to,the venom level, size of the sting, size of the tail, saiz of the pinchers.... or anything else.

just curious here. i'm thinking of getting any fat tail scorps. i like to see fat tails. don;t know why.

if you view scorps as item yes they are cheapo because they are just small creatures but if you see them as living things then they are priceless because life is priceless even for scorps.
