Greetings,

What's Picaday
Picaday (This Thread) is created for you guys to share any interesting pictures that you snap daily and also for those who don't have a thread @ Photo Gallery due to any reason.

Picaday's Rules and Regulations
- No, Picaday is not a place for you to spam or increase your post count. Picaday's main objective is to encourage more people to post their pictures here and share knowledge among each other.
- Only post pictures taken by you using Digital Cameras be it from a Point-and-Shoot, Prosumers or DSLR. Pictures snapped by cameraphones are prohibited in Picaday.
- Use the spoiler tag whenever you are quoting someone's picture in Picaday.
- Photographs posted must not exceed 1024px in either width or height.
- One-liner comments e.g. "Niceeeee~~!!!" are considered as spam. Kindly include the reason why you like or dislike his/her picture or suggest ways to improve the shot should you want to comment on someone's photo. Please do not go off topic.
- Don't post your pictures here if you are those weirdos who can't accept genuine critiques or comments on your pictures. You have been warned. This place is for everyone to share their view be it a compliment or critique on your photos and we don't want immature photographers crying like a little girl after getting some genuine comments.

Get Started Now!!
- Kindly copy, paste and edit the code below to tag your pictures so that it's easier for others to comment on or to learn from.

It was a very simple set up actually. I was experimenting with an Ikea "Snalis" box with a table lamp over it and a piece of A4 paper for backing material. Still far from ideal because I had to crank up the exposure in post to blow out the background. Thanks for the compliment though!

Some updates... i also tried making my shots more "pro". laugh.gif

Added some bokeh to focus on the subject. But i didn't do such a good job. sad.gif Also notice that the two boys underneath the umbrella are Muslim and the umbrella has CHIVAS written on it. laugh.gif

My friends Abudi's TVC shoot earlier today at Plaza Sentral.

This is Mahesh. And he's a vainpot. He checks his hair in the mirror after every take. and the shoot was around 10 hours. I guess he doesn't believe in make up artists. ROFLMAO!!

just my 2cents worth..i think perhaps u can recompose ur shot...hold ur camera horizontally so that u wont include part of the tree in ur frame..and lower ur angle so that both of the sea n sky is within the frame...

Cool!! Nice color. Would the light trail be less 'harsh' if say longer shutter + smaller aperture was used ?

Did you mean the tip as in the top of the bridge arch ? I wonder if the 50mm could reach it.

Personally think if the use smaller aperture to make the noise part clear and sharp then will be a great detailed picture.

usually i would use F9~13 for that shot..but just now i change to F2.8 on purpose...just wanna try a very shallow DoF which only allow ppl to see the beautiful eyes shocking.gif

Very shallow DOf and good focus on the eyes wink.gif

awkward position... swtich to liveliew thumbup.gif lol laugh.gif
but i do agree that your DOFs too thin. not nessecary everytime must head in focus only ma. in that shot u took, the overall effect made as though your image is not in focus at all. as a matter of fact, i do think that the focus point is off target, its a bit front from the bug's head. and oh, mind stating what aperture value u used as well? i think u missed that part.

Post processing - Crop, Saturation, and Sharpens. Obviously Mono conversion for first pic.

Frankly speaking, I find the 40D's images a bit tad soft.
I think dpreview pointed out this problem also.
Dunno is due to the lens or the camera itself.
I mean f/20 should be giving a big DOF right?
Anyway, by giving the shot a layer of sharpening will improve it wink.gif

the mono conversion looks good. but lacks impact, and too much empty foreground. reducing it to a panoramic landscape placing the building center IMHO would make it look more balanced.

with all due respect, i tried playing with the pic. something i had in mind.

user posted image

p/s: i also leveled the horizon - taking reference to the flag pole on top of the building left.

Photobucket only got 1Gb per free account.
Flickr got 200 photos limit for free account.

Personally, I prefer Flickr coz it's comparatively faster. Annual fees is not too high as well if you go 'Pro' account.

Need some feedbacks xD

Canon EOS 450D with kitlens
f/5.6
1/125 sec
ISO 100
*
perhaps u need to give 'message' in ur photo...stronger 'feel' to the viewers what are u intent to tell them...otherwise it'll bcome a snap shot...

composition wise..i would say try to avoid those unnecessary stuff in the frame..it would take the attention of the viewers away..like the pot on the upper right..and the flower at the upper left...

just my 2cents worth =)

Not bad... but it would be greater if you could get a closer shot. That'll gives more emphasize on the flowers itself less distraction from the leaves around. thumbup.gif :

By the way, I think there's too much space on the left too. smile.gif

the mono conversion looks good. but lacks impact, and too much empty foreground. reducing it to a panoramic landscape placing the building center IMHO would make it look more balanced.

with all due respect, i tried playing with the pic. something i had in mind.

thanks lwliam for the attempt, the end photo certainly has more impact in it and definitely more of a paranomic feel.

My original thought was to use some sort of leading line, however it clearly failed. With regards to the impact, I'm a little too concerned about losing details with the heavy dodge & burn. Nonetheless, breaking the usual photographic rules do yield some surprises at times.

I'm yet to learn how to dodge selectively sweat.gif

Will upload a few more later.

Frankly speaking, I find the 40D's images a bit tad soft.
I think dpreview pointed out this problem also.
Dunno is due to the lens or the camera itself.
I mean f/20 should be giving a big DOF right?
Anyway, by giving the shot a layer of sharpening will improve it  wink.gif

nolah..... f20 does not nessasary give u sharper image... its depands on the lens... some lens perform better at f8-f11 some are other range.... its does not nessasary mean that F20 will have better IQ to F11

should be F8-f11 la... in digital age due to the sensor heat in long exposure and light reflaction higher F stop like F22 or F32 does not give u better picture tongue.gif

anyway.. do remember your camera is crop factor body also ... your F stop is also X 1.6 haha.. so F2.8 is not the same with Full frame F2.8

Pretty clouds but I think you applied waaaaay too much sharpening there. You can see a very prominent light outline around the wires and at the boundary of roof and sky. This is a sign of over sharpening.

Normally people sharpen to bring out small details, but an image like this, where the emphasis is texture and colour, doesn't need very much sharpening(if any) to look good.

The problem is, I find the original blog template really really narrow.
I just visited your blogspot, and I saw that u made full use of the width of the screen.
While mine is like half the width of yours....

i played with the html codes, trial and error.. always save a copy of the original codes on your desktop 1st, in case you screw up the codes, so u can always revert back.

most of the default templates are kinda dull. u can google for blogger templates online as well.

thanks, guess the sharpness contribute a lot from the IS hahaha... hmm.. lotsa ppl comented on the WB, well i think i am a bit use to the yellowish warm colors of ambient light.. gotta change liao...

need advice from you guys... in this case you think i should use the tungstent WB to correct it or custom? i find tat using tungstent the color turns kinda greenish... and the custom WB tends to bleach the photo... hhaha what do you guys think?

thanks for the feed back...

get the white balance right the 1st time around, should u need to introduce color cast, u can do it later on in the pc; unless you have a good idea on how you want your final image to turn out, u can do so by putting those settings straight away in your camera.

hmm.. thanks vincent... but i realize 1 ting about custom. the custom only works on 1 kind of lighting environment rite?? each time the lihting changes... we need to re calibrate the custome AWB again rite?

thanks lwliam, hahah same comment i get from vincent... yeah... i got your idea... but i was thinking... if i am in a place where the lighting keeps changes, then i have to keep retouch the WB? is there anyway that i can set the WB once and suitable for all lighting condition?

Not sure how heavy are the models. But I don't think one person can carry them by themselves. They are made of real metal. A close up on the model would look like this:

actually kit lens also can do that, coz minimun focal length is very short.
ur kit can serve u very well, can cover most of the time,if u rdy 2 upgrade, then u should ask urself
wat kind of shots u like 2 take,
landscape? then go 4 UWA.
macro? sure go 4 macro lens.
spot or potrait? go 4 telezoom or some big aperture len.
for me,after i get my 55-250mmIS, i'll gonna look 4 a kit replacement,tammy 17-50mm. icon_idea.gif
it's just my opinion.

A bit soft on the focus....and it would've been a great shot if the window pane on the right side was not included in the frame.
