gosh nokia, i am soooo disappointed.. n86 is a big disappointment.. i was expecting so much more for the n8x series and this one came up.. led flash only? come on.. pls make xenon standard ok.. and the design is ugly.. it looks so disgusting with its matte look and quirky buttons.. this is by far the ugliest phone and most disappointing phone ever existed. i was wishing something that would top the already-perfect n82 but instead this came up..

Added on February 19, 2009, 3:12 amthe back of the phone is just retarded and looks outdated.. worst back cover ever..

and what is the use of 8 mp without xenon?

sorry guya i'm just really frustrated over this n86 right now.. i tot they'll put a xenon and somethign similar or more beautiful design than the n85.. i'm just really really disappointed.. this is nothing but just a boost of megapixels and downgrade of design..i was expecting sooo much more.. to have nokia slap this bloody- ugly- non-xenon camera phone thrown at us.. what an insult to smartphones
*
Design wise..it's a bit different, just a bit diff from n81, n85 and n96. i guess that's okay for me.

but for the flash nokia says that it's a 3rd generation led meaning it is more powerful and has a higher range.

you said u wanted xenon flash right?

KEEP this in mind:

1. xenon flash will most probably make the n86 more expensive than it already is
2. xenon flash will drain much much more battery power and from what u can see now the n82 is the perfect example because it has the lowest battery life compared to all the 5mp N-series phones...even with a smaller and dimmer (less brighter) screen size.

3. from what i can see, i u really need numerous good pics with battery life to spare for calling people on the phone and other things, a LED flash phone would be a much sensible choice because of the much better battery life.

4. if you wanted xenon so much with 8mp then i suggest buying a digital camera or even a DSLR at n86's price range.

Nokia first 8mp with no Xenon flash  doh.gif

advantages of a phone's xenon flash is usually at medium range... at close range the picture will be overexposed even on the n82. this is a fact.

yes xenon flash does make the picture colour reproduction as real as it should. and usually leds will make it somewhat a diff colour tone..but it is hardly noticable in a normal photo...so this is not that important for a normal user. a photo-eccentric user will but either a digital camera or a dslr or normal slr.

Yes, Zenon Flash is so important under some circumstances...but take in mind that for n86 to be a great SMARTPHONE, it must also have a good battery life.

N82 is not a really great phone: medium to medium low battery life (normal usage with picture taking, etc), smaller screen size, much dimmer/lower brightness screen but N82 is a great CAMERAPHONE, only because of the 5mp camera with xenon flash.

If n86 wants to be a great CAMERAPHONE maybe it should have xenon flash but it will greatly reduce battery life.
maybe nokia wants it to be a great SMARTPHONE and that means having a good battery life. take note that the led on the n86 is a newer type and should be better

i know how a simple "xenon-equipped" cameraphone can "DECEIVE" so many buyers inspite of n82's low battery. popular doesn't make it better yo.

plus, most users who don't read forums or reviews won't know about the low battery problem.

personally i would prefer a phone that i can depend on whenever i want to call or receive an important call plus all the things that n82 can do.

im not angry at n82..seriously.. biggrin.gif

i used an n81 as u know...u r a previous user of n81 also right.. quite expensive price but camera suxx..right?

most people won't take notice of a xenon flash or dont even know what a xenon flash is..

the people that argues about this lack of xenon flash will be people who read up on the reviews and people who posts in forums..

bottom line is, people will still buy n86

QUOTE(BBXiong @ Feb 20 2009, 12:21 AM)
yes, i know what you are trying to say, most end users out there never even heard symbian before, or hardly know what it is, even though they are using a s60v3 device..so you can imagine people that knows what is a xenon flash..but for us here that knows all about this things, we cannot help but to ask for perfection..it's human nature, we never get satisfied.

throw all those aside, this is what i think of nokia for their recent moves:
nokia is being ignorance in the phone market lately..
for example, look at the design from N81, N78, N85, N79, N97 and going on..
they are basically the same mirror, glossy surface..just different colour..

also, for some people who look around other brand 8MP phones..they have face detection, smile shots and stuff, and samsung's new phone even provide video recording on 720p, but there is no info on this device capable of doing all the above..
and the thing that let me down the most, since nokia is putting all those theme effect, and larger res for their touch device, they should start using back the OMAP chipset they gave up, it provides much higher performance..some will say price matters, but the thing is, when you are already spending RM2.5k on a phone, i don think it matters if it's another RM200 if you really like the phone, and due to the OMAP, you phone specs can cope with more softwares in the future due to it's processing power, and as for now, people are already playing quake 3 on N82...

for people that thinks this is overkillings, i have experience on this..
i was using N81 8GB before i got N82, and i remember clearly that when i am playing ONE(ngage game) at my n81, i have to turn off the lighting just to ensure better gameplay framerate..this is a proof that nokia's phone spec itself are slowly incapable of coping with their own gaming platform..irony...
*
yeah i agree with u and do understand.

by the way, n81 i think is the grandfather for all the recent design of nokia phones.. hehe don't u agree? n81 then n78 and dont forget the VERY similarly designed n96.

yeah i also kept myself updated of newer samsung phones like omnia, innov8 and the new replacement for innov8.. specs wise these samsung phones are phenomenal like face detection, video recording at 120fps etc...wow! and even more..

i own an n95 8gb and the OMAP does make the game much smoother and better looking. plus i think it processes the pictures taken much better and faster than 5MP non omap based phones like n85 or n79. but the downside of omap is it does eat up more batt life than non omap based phones.

n97 will have xenon right? or am i wrong? the diff with nokia is nokia is widely used so easier to find cheaper replacement parts and easier to charge ur phone maybe because ur friends are probably using nokia also. nokia is getting too comfortable with it's position in the phone market.

k850 has both xenon and led right? it has a smaller screen, screen that displays 256k and that consumes less battery power than n82. this could explain for it having a decent batt life

g810's xenon flash is not as strong as n82 and some say the flash capability is comparable to new leds in other phones..ive read this in reviews. this could explain for it having decent batt life

the most important thing here to take note is that n82 uses omap chip inside it like n95 and this chip eats up more power than devices that doesnt have it

okay then... design wise the n86 looks kinda cheap to me. i know it is expensive but i also want other people who sees the phone at first glance to say that it is expensive and not just shiny...

like n96 with the silver all around the sides of it's body, it makes the phone look expensive/ sophisticated. and nokia should integrate some of this design in n86 and not just the shinyness of the body..

this phone isn;t shiny enough.. it has a really grainy look. don't you guys think? the back looks matte. the rounded keys are the most hideous part of the phone, seem very outdated.. the slashing soft keys is a bit too over the top and distracting enough to make you take notice of it.. the back cover looks really cheap with really nothing to be proud off.. conclusion i wouldn't want to be seen carrying this ugly junk with me. i oso agree that nokia needs a new phone designer.. nokia has been quite infamous with the design of their phone..
*
i do agree with u on the keys..it looks ugly when it's rounded like that..it doesnt look sophisticated at all like an N-series phone should.

maybe the back cover is something like n95 8gb's cover.

are the sides on the front slider like e71's metal sides?

ah man..that's bad...

i really love the metal casing like iphone or e71... even if the phone has low specs.. it's high in build quality.

i think he was talking about wide angled shots...i think newer samsung supports this kind of photoshoot because of the wide angle lens

just wanted to give a heads up on the new garmin v5.30

QUOTE(gregxin @ Feb 28 2009 @ 11:29 PM)
Garmin 5.00.30 has bug also.

I found out a bug. When you set a destination to go, you can see 3 buttons at bottom.

One is speed metre or distance.

Next one is return to menu.

The other is the time left for destination. (BUT IF YOU PRESS THIS KEY THEN GARMIN IS HANG!!!!!!!!!! HAVE TO TURN OFF GARMIN AND START AGAIN)
I think 5.00.40 will be came out bcoz of this.

I tried at 2 5800s.

Too late cause i think everyone has their 8mp camera phone already  wub.gif

8mp cameraphone doesnt mean that it beats 5mp cameraphones.

take in mind if the 8mp uses a smaller sensor size then the quality would be much lower than a 5mp cameraphone. plus flash quality also makes a difference.

the only good thing about 8mp over 5mp is that i can print large sized banners like 10 to 20 feet without enlarging the pic size.

xenon flash is brighter and more powerful but sucks more battery power.

xenon also produces a picture with a better colour reproduction.

xenon
Pros: better looking pics
cons: use more batt power

led/dual led
pros: use much less power
cons: not enough power to illuminate dark areas, pictures not good in lowlight or indoors..

hmm... personally i want my phone to have a good battery life and by having a led/dual led phone the battery would last longer...

so i think i would prefer an n86 over n82...

but if there are larger capacity battery for later phones from nokia with xenon... i would take the xenon..but maybe it would be at least 2 -3 years before that happens..
