Bought a Toshiba Class 4 8GB microSDHC from a forumer, and it turns out that the card couldn't record video at the highest and 2nd highest quality smoothly. It's as sluggish as playing online games using Streamyx. The original Nokia 2GB microSD can record videos smoothly.

I've done a test on both cards and the 8GB has a writing speed of ~8.7MBps, while the 2GB has only 4MBps. Even if the 8GB is a fake card, it should still work fine with such writing speed. Any idea?

One of the main reason I bought the 8GB was to record more videos, but things doesn't look good now sad.gif

It works fine now. I can now record high quality videos using the 8GB without any lag. Maybe it needs a night's warm up, weird.

Should I update my firmware to 31.0.016? I'm on 20.0.062 now. What difference will the update brings?

I don't use Nokia map. Garmin for the win tongue.gif

Looks like the only major change is add on some problems here and there, with no good at all? I guess it would stick with 20.0.062 then blush.gif

I'm not quite active on Flickr, simply because they impose too many limitations on their free users. Ovi offers free unlimited storage and bandwidth, the bad is it don't have Flickr's strong community. But heck, I ain't limiting myself with just 3 albums by using Flickr.

Ovi is not as user friendly though.

*
I copied all the files from my old 2GB to my new 8GB. Works perfectly, no need to reinstall anything.

I dropped my N82 on the sand, now the lens cover very rough, any way to smoothen it?

I dropped mine from high to a rock in my Pangkor trip. Scratches all around the phone. Luckily I have some protector pasted on it, else it will be worse.

Looks like it's not difficult to spot K800 to N82 users. I'm one of them tongue.gif

I don't like the way S60's music player works. It pulls musics from all folders, and it makes me wonder why do they separate two folders (Digital and Simple) when they are gonna list all of time anyways?

It takes ages to browse through my entire playlist just to look for the ringtone or sms tone I want. For now, I have excluded my ringtones and sms tones from appearing in the music player by hiding the Simple folder. Setting ringtone is easy as I can browse to the Simple folder using Y-Browser, open the song in music player and set it as ringtone from there.

The thing is, there is no option to set sms tone from the music player itself. I have to browse to "Settings > General > etc.." to set my sms tone. What troubles me is that the sms tone is not listed as I've hide Simple folder. I have to unhide it, refresh the music player, then only the tones will reappear, again, in the long damn list. I have to browse through my 360+ songs just to locate a 2-second long sms tone!

The ultimate question, is there anyway to solve this? Make the music player index only the Digital folder, while the ringtone and sms tone selection only index files from the Simple folder. I remember reading something like this, but I didn't bookmark it. And now, I couldn't find it anymore. Google returns nothing sad.gif

i'm ex K800 and ex N82 user..
what i'm telling you is.. N82 is not perfect and suitable for simple user
as u know Nokia Nseries is more complicated phone..
so to the simple user that like simple phone.. better go for SE

but...believe me.. that u will used to do that.. it will become common routine in your life..
wink.gif

Different user have different needs. I'm happy with the N82, especially with a large community (and hackers) behind the S60 3rd tongue.gif I love how limitless the possibilities are with its ability to install third party apps.

SE phones are simpler and more user friendly, especially for non-techie users.

QUOTE(zx7177 @ May 5 2009, 07:06 PM)
there is a simple solution to this

but i think you'll need a hacked phone to use it

Mind letting us know the solution or just PM me? My N82 is hacked with ROMpatcher installed icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(fender @ May 5 2009, 09:14 PM)
greetings..

i was an ex-SE phone user too! my previous phone was W610i.
i found that the N-series are packed with thousands of features especially WiFi + GPS + stereo speakers and they made me chose this phone.
i guess i have to learn to get used to nokia's UI first before making any 'improvements' in my phone. and i am really looking forward to 'enhance' my phone. well,i am not new to doing this kind of things because i have done that before on my motorola phones. but i didn't have the time to do that on my W610i though..

overall, i think N82 will be a great friend to me.
however, i still dislike the music player. or maybe i'm  just still new?
it is really different with walkman player, both have their + and - sides.
for example, nokia has the ID3Tag editor, which is very helpful but the walkman has its 'queue' feature which i really like!

by the way, why does this phone doesn't have dedicated multimedia/music player keys? they should be very handy right..

and if only motorola distribute the ZN5 phone here, N82 would have an undisputable rival eversince, in terms of camera performance. and probably i won't be using this phone right now  tongue.gif

well, i only just use this phone for a day only and there's still much to learn..i hope u guys will give me advise!
*
There are plenty of 3rd party music players for S603rd device, just Google around. The fun starts after you've figure how to sign apps or hack your phone, sky is the limit.

I rename my Ring Tones music to start with RT and SMS message tones to start with MT. Manual grouping  rclxub.gif  But still have to browse through the entire list to reach M or R  doh.gif
Anyway, to the rest, if you want a music player phone, N82 is a wrong choice. N95/N95-8GB is better, as it has music player keys. 5800XM is even better.

I would say N82 is somewhere between 5800XM/N95 and the E-Series. More towards a serious/work related phone. Also more towards camera side.
*
Now you gave me an idea. Rename all my ringtones and sms tones to start with some symbol or "A", so that they will all be listed on top of the list and there is no need to locate a single ringtone among hundreds of mp3s.

i used that. anything other than music files i tend to keep outside the sounds folder.

hope that solves your problem, or at least a part of it biggrin.gif

Hey, nice find there. It would be perfect if the music player index files from the Digital folder only. Ringtones are still included even after using this hack. But the thing is, after I hide the Simple folder, the music player stops indexing files from there, but I can still select them when selecting ringtones or sms tones thumbup.gif

*
Of course not. You are updating the firmware of your phone, on the phone memory itself. Just like when you use a new USB drive, your Windows will not be downgraded to Windows98 tongue.gif

To those who are using push email via Wi-Fi, wouldn't your battery drain in no time if you opt to receive emails in real time? Connecting via Wi-Fi or 3G consumes more battery?

Anyway,i got myself the black one and it's Avaxx set and cost me RM1380 cry.gif and i add in a Sun Global 1800mah battery and a Toshiba 8GB MicroSDHC rclxm9.gif so total up around rm1500 already.

anyway,my phone just 2 days old and it has dust inside my main display already cry.gif any idea how to remove it?

Wow, how much for the battery? Where you bought it? If it's safe the i'm sure most of us here are interested.

Anyone successfully install Ovi? I have tried for million of times but the sms configuration just won't reach my phone. Is there a way to install manually, without needing Nokia to send their never-reaching sms configuration to my phone?

Using Celcom by the way, heard that it's the same too for Maxis.

At 1st< I oso give 100% protection to it, but thing dun go as we plan, so... now I just protect as much as I can, if really scratched, then no choice, thats its destiny.

Haha

I protect mine well too, but not after the phone slip from my pocket and drop onto a huge rock and slip further underneath. Wounded. Phone still works great though.

I wonder what's the power usage for you guy's N82 when it's in Power Saver mode. Here's mine, averaging from 0.04W to 0.08W more or less:
