noob here, currently im using a xigmatek red scorpion, im thinking of lapping it but i have some doubts about it.

firstly, i would like to know how is the performance after lapping a 1283? anyone here have done it before? mind to share some result?

secondly, after i lap, would my HSF value drop?? as the waranty will void and i might sell my cooler so im worried i wont fetch a good price after i lap.

thirdly, can anyone share some infomation about lapping HDT as im worried there is like a precaution or something that i need to know as i heard that there is liquid inside those pipes im worried i over do it. pls share with me as im still noob at this....

lastly, i would like to know, it is okay if i lap my HSF only rather than lapping both the proc and HSF....

@alive88, then do u know how is the result lapping 1283?? and how about the value after lapping??

the main reason i lap is to get more performance from my xigmatek and honestly im not quite sure if my base is or not flat but i know there is "drains" between the aluminium and copper... if the result are 1c or 2c diff then no point la.. but so far i only know sukhoi done it but i cant seem to find his result... or maybe he didnt even post...

anyways thanks for the advise alive

anyways thinking of getting one (RS)?? laugh.gif

actually we are looking for an AMD user to test out the new Xigmatek HDT-S1284 Achilles....

the reviewer, vincent predict that the achilles have better effect on AMD proc as the base of AMD proc are larger in term of area compare to intel...

i think u misunderstood what i said bro.... the diameter of the pipe for both 1283 and 1284 is 8mm... so the base area of 1284 would be larger and from that thread u can see that almost 1/2 X 2 of the pipe is not in contact with the intel proc...

anyways if u are interested u could give it a try as ckhoong and all of us are looking forward for an AMD user to test out this thing to see how it perform on AMD and compare it with intel proc...

do i have to worry about oxidation in long term? does it affect anything? is it ok just to leave it.. too hassle to keep cleaning it la
*
talking about oxidation... i kinda forgot that part la... i heard that artic sliver 5 which contains silver will prevent oxidation... but there are others saying that it will take around 3 years ++ for oxidation to happen if the base is copper... anyways those info are from here....

anyways i would like to ask, im using TX-2 and i would like to know if oxidation will happen if i would like to lap my xigmatek red scorpion and use TX-2 as thermal paste... please advise....

Try not to put some weight on the cooler. That's how i got mine.... just let the cooler's weight itself do the job tongue.gif
*
i certainly didnt press in down.... coz i seen lots of guide and most of it doesnt encourage putting weight while lapping but im not sure y... anyways im a noob in lapping so i just follow what they said laugh.gif

i don't think there is any difference.... the only difference is the quality of the sandpaper ... whether it will last how long is depending on the quality... cuz some bad quality ones from china the sand will come off as you use it... those are bad quality sandpapers...  smile.gif
*
thats y i need to use several sand paper with same grid to lap la...

anyways thank for the info...

but u sure u can get an extra rm50 for the lapping?? coz if ppl know bout lapping, they wont pay extra rm50 coz it only cost me like rm8 for my lapping (8 pieces of sand paper)... just my opinion though...

shops in KJ stock 2000 grit, ace hardware do stock too, but kind of pricey IMHO
*
if its good quality type then i think it should be worth it as u dont need to buy so many sheets of low quality sand paper... lagi have to change it every now and then when lapping like i did....

Here the gap temp between those 2 cores. Is it a bit abnormal high in gap? If ~3-5C gap it wont matter but the gap always >10C. Make me kinda want to lap...I think I'll lap it this Saturday myself. Not looking for mirror finish juz want a flat and not so high in gap between cores. Please support me guys.... blush.gif

i'll support u all the way.... rclxms.gif

but imo the temp is quite normal.... it could be inaccuracy of the sensor or due to ur un-flatness of ur heatsink base.... if the difference is >20c then thats something wrong but the most important thing is that ur temp is not above 70c....

anyways what cooler are u using?
