Sega's Vice President of Marketing, Sean Ratcliffe commented:
"The Virtua Tennis series is perfect for the Wii platform. SEGA is excited to be able to bring this uniquely interactive experience to Wii. The multiplayer court games in particular will be a feature that family and friends can enjoy together".
Over 40 styles of court are said to be included. Virtua Tennis 2009 will be out in May this year.
These features include online play, and casual "Court Games" minigames that should go over swimmingly at Wii-based family functions.
It will also share the May release window with the other versions of the game, bringing it to store shelves just in time for tennis season, if such a thing actually exists. Is this the first Online Play for Tennis game in Wii ?
I heard it will support Wii motion plus! if really is the case, then geez man, ps3 and xbox360 will really feel like last generation.
don't think so. don't think there are many games support wii speak. i only know animal crossing and upcoming conduit that does. btw, i played sega superstar tennis. its ok. but not very polished. to cater more for family fun. no online. don't aspect a realistic simulation.
There are already 3 reviews for grand slam tennis since it was launched 8 jun 2009. However there still not a single review for virtua tennis 2009 since it was launced 9 jun 2009. why are the reviewers so hard working on grand slam tennis, but so lazy on virtua tennis 2009 ? i don't get it. i need to read the reviews before i place any orders

ramz, you read the reviews and make the summary..we will wait for you reviews before going out and get it. aci dak?
i just tried grand Slam tennis without motion plus. I must say u have to really really SWING UR ARMS and not like WII SPORTS tennis is just move arms or wrist also it detects.
Well without motion plus , i guess the char reacts abit slow on detecting ur different swings like .. LOB , DROPSHOT, SMASH , SLICE.
My overall experienced without m+ is for these different shots You really need a m+ to work it correctly
But normal flat shots like forehand and backhand is ok works great without M+

Actually...
LOB=Press A during swing DROPSHOT=Press B during swing
After playing a few days, Grand Slam Tennis is the best tennis game in Wii now. The gameplay mechanic is based on Wii Sport Tennis, and it is for sure that this game is realistic than Wii Sport Tennis(the flow of ball is not realistic)
Hope everyone enjoy...

it seems there is no one reviewer reviewed both the games, except Cheat Code Central (but that also not by the same person). As a responsible reviewer, he should review both, and that should be SOOOO baldi obvious to him on what we expect. So, i personally don't think the reviews are reliable. ada sikit tak kena. therefore I wouldn't take the rating points seriously. By reading the reviews itself, i feel that vt2009 is a little more realistic controls then GST. Feature wise they almost identical, so it all boils down to the controls. But realistic doesn't always translate to more fun and lasting appeal. So which is more fun and have lasting appeal, i don't know! Perhaps somebody reading this can review both games, since the official reviewers are not doing their job.
latest: IGN review for VT2009 just came in. 78 for VT2009, and 85 for GST. to me, i think both also good, just that they control differently. I already asked my friend visiting hongkong to buy GST for me.

Well if Paige or Wang can try VT2009 then we can get a comparison review from them From what i can tell, VT2009 doesn't use buttons which i think should be the way to play fully simulated tennis.
lol yah second try just now , as u mentioned. But i really sux at it for the moment.
anyway this is my EA id PaigeWii
And ... refer to post 1 for all our EA usernames The more the merrier !
Any lagging issue online u tried with Gst? i havent try online with it yet but as ive tried FIFA 09 wii EA online too... theres laggingÂ
I will add u tonite...
For the wifi, overall is smooth, sometime it has a little bit of lagging but it wont affect the match at all...
the problem is malaysia internet connection is worst...

From what I researched from internet review by users, VT2009 gameplay can make ppl frustated a bit...
The speed of the ball is very fast compare to GST.
Everytime we swing, it has a angle bar on top of the player. And that is very frustated and hard to focus angle of the ball u want while running across the whole tennis court...
and somemore framerate issue...
By the way, GST and VT2009 are very good tennis game in Wii...but for me, I will stick with GST 1st...coz EA wifi is damn addicitive...

Tested the game, basic controls can be done without using Motion Plus.
However the controls definitely isn't great. CPU can do some crazy shots with backhand smash and I don't know what is the problem but most of my shots is out!

You can do it...the learning curve is deep...take time...

Ok,
I've tested both Virtual Tennis and Grand Slam Tennis. Here is the difference I found. Lets start with Grand Slam Tennis. I am testing the game without Motion Plus.
Disclaimer:
PROBABLY I DON'T HAVE A MOTION PLUS, SO THE ABOVE REVIEW IS DONE WITHOUT MOTION PLUS! MIGHT NOT BE PRECISE. TAKE IT AS A REFERENCE.

Grand Slam Tennis
The character is bigger, cute, shorter, fattier, looks more towards cartoonish.
The court looks real and smooth with someone talking in the background (usually watch sports games got some stupid feller giving comments). The overall game play is about the controls of backhand and forehand.
Assuming you are holding the wiimote using right hand. If the ball is on ur left, then you need to use backhand to hit the ball otherwise it wont hit the ball or in other words will miss it. It depends on how hard you hit the ball because the harder you hit the ball the easier it will be out. Of course to do drop shot and lob u can press A to lob and B to drop shot.
Its not easy to control the ball left or right and not easy to keep it in the court because if you swing a little harder, it will be out.
The character runs slow
Winning the game requires technique and a lot of trainings like catching the players position and deciding to do drop shot of lob to win the game.
Takes a long time to load LOL!
Virtual Tennis
The character looks slimmer, taller, smaller in screen, and more serious. When it is close showing the players face, the graphic is bad compared to Grand Slam Tennis which is smoother.
The court looks like normal Virtual Tennis type of court (if you are virtual tennis player, you should know this). With background music, overall the sound of the ball hit the racket and the sound of the shoe running in the court is not as real as Grand Slam Tennis.
The game play is different from Grand Slam Tennis where in the whole game (probably because I am not using Motion Plus?) is about left and right to win the game. Probably I just test the game a while, but with normal swinging of wiimote, I cant see how can I lob or do a drop shot by just swinging the wiimote, maybe I need a Motion Plus.
If you played wii sports tennis before, this might be an upgrade version of wii sports tennis type of controls. Backhand and Forehand swing of wiimote isnt really important since there is an indicator moving when the ball almost reach and when you hit the ball at that particular indicator point, the ball will go to the angle showing in the indicator. Its simply easier to play compared to Grand Slam Tennis in my point of view. Basically its controlling left and right and forehand or backhand shot will be done automatically.
The character runs faster compared to Grand Slam Tennis
Example if the ball is on the left and assuming the racket you hold is right hand. The indicator runs from RIGHT to LEFT and the slower you hit the ball, the further the ball will go to right until you miss it if the indicator point runs out. Vice versa for the ball on right. So now you see the game is actually left and right to win the game.
Game Loading time is shorter~
Conclusion
What can be found in Grand Slam Tennis cannot be found in Virtual Tennis and vice versa. Its really plain in the ass when losing to the NPC in game while playnig Grand Slam Tennis because they are so PRO! Time is needed to train and its more realistic compare to Virtual Tennis due to the forehand and backhand requirement as Virtual Tennis will detect any movement of wiimote as long as it is base on the indicator. Although you need to press A and B to lob and drop shot in Grand Slam Tennis, it is still a great game once you learnt the curve of the game. For me although Virtual Tennis is easier to play, but I can see Grand Slam Tennis is more powerful and realistic.

That has already made me drop Virtual Tennis 2009 out of my collection cos thats so cartoonish and so unrealistic.. lol
Are you sure GST Loading time is long, i watched VT2009 youtube clip, the loading is longer than GST a lot...
For everyone that play GST, I recommended u all use nunchuk for movement...
although it is a bit hard initially, after u master the skill, it is easy to play...coz u know la, the NPC movement is slow...
P/S: Paige, u keep disconnect...
Err its u who disconnected lar. Cos actually i was inside there waiting my friend akira09 < to online to play with me. Then while waiting for him , i saw ur invitation to play , so i connected to u. Then with 3-4 times i was connecting to u and before the game starts , it says ur opponent disconnected. And Right after that, my friend is waiting me already and he is online , then once i connect to him we already start playing for 3 matches , i lose again 3-1 3-1 3-0 ( i think )
Sorry something happen and few people knows my previous passwords for all my ids acct. I felt insecure so i change all my emails/forums/accounts id/passwords

Just a notice from PaiGeWong (wont exist anymore) and existing will be paige.pc <
just bought GST. played an hour so far without M+. its better then wii sports. even without the M+ there is more variety then wii sports, like drop shot, lob. top spin, back spin, and power. its a pretty good game even without M+. playing with the nunchuck is a must for advance players. but playing with the computer will bore u after a while. you really need a human opponent, online or local
as for M+, it should arrive today. can't wait....update u guys later
well, finish playing gst with M+ for 1 hour. really sweat like a pig. i now know how unfit i am. 1 hour is all i can take. after 15 min of practice, i am able to place the ball where i want 70% of the time. but when comes to straignt center court shot, its rather hard, sucess rate abou 30-40%. i play real tennis too, so let me be frank - its not one to one!. its not coz you can't lob or drop shot without pressing buttons. also, game put certain boundaries to the one-to-one so that the game won't be too frustrating. things like seldom foul shots, like baseline fouls, and seldom let fouls (hitting the net). if d ball close to your body and is on your backhand, but you hit a forehand, game will foregive you and take the shot anyway.
but with wii motion plus its easier to play. and feels closer to the real tennis. i played 1 hour of both with and without M+ modes, and i find myself enjoying the game more with M+ (you can pull incredible shots that is so satisfying). so, if you ask me if M+ is worth it for gst, the answer is a YES! go get it.
btw, i never went online. maybe later, much later....coz i be outstation for the next 3 weeks starting tomorrow, so i puasa wii for 3 weeks.

i not in malaysia la. i am going outstation from an outstation station. sorry cicak man, but u welcome to get it. its only 2500 km away. i will leave instructions to my wife that u coming.
Ok, I got my Wii Motion Plus yesterday. Grand Slam Tennis is awesome. Still getting a hang of the controls, but I think I'm able to place my shots about 85% of the time. Only problem now is that my arm is aching, ow.

i searched high and low for punch out...i can't find it...like at all...
where did you get it? i really want one...haha
sorry, out of topic...
but anyway, topic related... spent quite little time with GST as i just got it and it was late at night and i have my finals and thesis to work on...maybe next time i'll...play it...haha(it's getting quite good reviews so far)
still, not as good as golf...but i really don't like golf...so, yea
i know online price is about: RM85~90
in stores, it varies, concerning the region you purchase it
US - the range is between RM 125~135 (so far)
JAP is RM110
some people claimed that the JAP model is available from RM88~RM90, but i never saw any so far (maybe out of stock, haha)
still, i managed to purchase mine at RM100 each for one US version and one JAP version that makes it rm 200 + a bonus free GST, i'm quite happy with my purchase to be honest...XD

any ideas why is my wii keep on disconnecting when it just entered the GST tennis field (where after all the searching for opponents, retrieving game data is done)?

I have the same problem with this game online .. after the 3rd day playing it online ZZZZ I donno wads the solution... anyone knows?
Added on July 2, 2009, 5:17 pmas for my survey, i think it has to do with my wireless router for this game online cos it seems that it has no problem before that... and the reason i suspect is the router causing the blocking .. cos my friend having the same wireless router as me also have the same problem online with this game... zzz

i read somewhere, quote "The problem comes down to load times, an original copy of the game loads alot quicker than a backup copy of the game so when you want to connect to some online who is running an original copy of the game then they will load it quicker than you and by the time you have loaded your backup copy the connection has been lost. "
hey paige, i think i saw you on the wiiso forums...=p, is that you?~XD
anyway, yea, back up loads slower, especially a PAL version...
the conduit online feature...i like that though...haha
i also read there is a nondirect way to solve the problem if u using pirated copy. but of course i can't mention here. just buy original and no more hassle. games in malaysia are not that expensive compared to philippines. but for some strange reason, ori games here are way way more available then in malaysia. malaysia is not so poor like those african nations. We can afford. so i think is just comes to the mentality.
ramz, games in malaysia in comparison to the US...its like a ripoff to most wallets, even if you are working (unfortunately, i'm still a student)
most games are priced within a RM120 (those quite crappy games) till RM200 price tag (more fun, well known games) ...which is quite insane...maybe its just me, but you get my point i guess
anyway, i think i know about the way (maybe) to decrease the load times, but...i don't really wanna go change much stuff with my wii or games that i've "purchsed"...just enjoy it as if it is, and if online is not available for it, i'm fine...=)
another thing is, original games don't come fast enough to be played like within the same week...you are considered lucky if you ever are able to find the latest available version of (insert game name here) in stores like the month after its release in the states...if it ever reaches m'sia that is...XD
the only online game i can play thus far from CD is conduit SSBB and GST i have problems with it...dunno why~
i ddin't try any other online features of other games i have...still busy working through other games in my...collection...haha
anyway, i do understand your support original mentality...i don't blame you about it...it's great and i am happy that you are helping out the game industry as well...=)
i not rich oso. i spend about 200rm a month on games. i had my console for 9 months, and i have 9 games in my collection. the issue i have are: 1. Is hard to find a wide selection of games in retail stores. for example, walk into gamers hideout, and u see maybe like 30 to 40 games. that's it. and that's already very good. usually most shops only have about 10-15 only (just for show, coz that is not their main income). 2. Is hard to find retail stores. for example 1U near my house. such a big shopping center but hardly any wii games u can drool over. don't believe go there and try to buy one. I know a lot other shopping centers like 1U. 3. Is hard to find cheap games in retail shops, exception to a few, most are over priced. 4. nintendo presence in malaysia is not quite there, although they have an official store in mid valley (i don't find it very impressive actually). so games takes quite a long time to reach coz they don't think malaysia is worth their time to get the games here quick.
and i believe the reasons for the above is because of piracy. maybe my believe is wrong, then please correct.
i think that most people pirate in malaysia is due to 2 reasons,
1. the price 2. the delay of games
on which influence which, is not for us to know i guess
1. price The price in my opinion is currently very unfair to the malaysian audience as it cost at around RM120 till RM180 for a wii game no matter how high and low you search, you will find the prices within this range, and of course, a cheaper price means that the games suck
let's see how the US market reacts to a USD40~USD60 game
well, 1st of all, they are earning USD in their country, hence, it kinda...reflects a more justified cost in their lives in malaysia, we are paying them, like around 3x the price (even if the US have price cuts for the same game you wanted to buy, you still buy at the original price x3), and also the additional extra cost included...which makes a USD40 game turns into around a RM 150 game now, this would not reflect a more "enjoyable" experience i guess as you are paying through your nose for the game, and of course, that doesn't give one the reason to pirate
still, a better measure was done in the PC section lately where they released a Malaysianized version of the game (which makes it original of course) at a lower price than what is "imported" these malaysianized version plays just like the original (coz it is), and the price ranges from RM30 till RM80, while an imported version ranges between RM120 till RM180, i guess you guys know about this right? so, anyway, i myself have purchased those original games myself as usually a pirated CD would cost around RM30, while an original cost like RM70~80 another additional RM40 or so doesn't hurt that much, right?and you get online features~
of course, if you purchase the original makes you treasure the game more comparing to a copy of it, and i guess you know what i meant here...=)
2.The delay of games like you've said, the game released in malaysia is slow as snail so, most would resort to pirated version of games as it arrives like at around a 1 week period (sometimes days after), or 1 month period latest how can the original version beat that pace in malaysia?
they say if u can't beat them, join them. well......maybe not just yet.
anyway, back to tennis. this is a great game. haven't played online yet coz i don't have internet where i am staying. but been playing with my friends and we can't put it down. play until need to bath before i sleep.
in GST, i've played it till the 3rd year with the AI, and i really wonder how many years are there in the game...>.<", it gets old after the 3rd year (where you unlocked every skills and attires, and also obtained a full 5 star rank)...and the game doesn't do anything else except...puts you in the fourth round to replay the whole course again...
also, i managed to beat most of the AI with just 2 to 4 strokes (where my avatar whacks the ball only) and i won the match/championship...XD
I m having trouble loading Grand Slam Tennis..my wii keep crashing.. If anyone has similar problems and have some solutions, appreciate any help. Can PM me
