Hi Davidgary,

I'm noob to IT stuff and have just registered to help my son to help him to revert his BiteSMS to 2.7 as he had unknowingly upgraded it to 3.1.
Being followed the thread and solution offered by you and another forumer. I still do not understand all the terms mentioned in the link. Care to elaborate, possible step by step to what a NOOB should do if I were to use Cydia to perform the task. Hope u can help and understand what I'm try to write.

Once again, thanks in advance. Cheers

Hi Hanxz,

I read this steps by Baretta thr the link:
--------------------------------------------------
deb file for bitesms 2.7

biteSMS.deb

To install on your iPhone :

1. SFTP or SCP your deb file into /tmp
2. SSH into your iPhone with Terminal and type:
dpkg -i /tmp/biteSMS.deb
3. If biteSMS icon not appear, install gUIcache from cydia (u can uninstall later if u dont want this apps)
3. Kawtim
------------------------------------------------------
I don't quite understand what did you mean by check my steps again?
Next u mentioned that install mobile terminal and guicache, are these 2 programs can be found in Cydia and it has to install inside d iphone?
U mentioned file name and etc, may I know what is all these?

As I'm a noob and nut to all these, would appreciate if you treat me like a baby, ie step by step. Thanks for your understanding n being patient to me. Waiting to receive your posting.

Cheers

Hi Davidgary, will try shortly and let's cross my fingers. After deliberate reading and help to ans my queries

Before doing all these things, I've not sync my iphone with my office PC, is that critical?

1) Download the deb file via the link. --- To my PC? I think yes?
2) Download MobileTerminal from Cydia -- To iphone, right?
3) Download DiskAid http://www.digidna.net/diskaid/ - to where? To my PC? done that.
4) Launch DiskAid and select root media(bottom left of DiskAid application) - launch at where? to PC too? Looks like I need to connect my iphone to my PC in order to "select root media'?
5) Use Copy to Device and upload the deb file to /var/root/ - in iphone as well? copy from PC to iphone? Need to go home to take the USB cable
6) Use Mobile Terminal via iPhone - what is this Mobile Terminal? Also in DisAid? Understood this part.

As for the rest instrunctions, I'm still reading it.... doh.gif

1) Delete the deb file in media by using delete from device option.

2) There's 2 option to select from the left end menu. One is media folder and the other is root folder. Select Root. Select Go Ahead to access root partition.

3) You'll will see the var folder. Click on var and then select the root folder. Use copy to Device to place the deb file.

4) Launch Mobile terminal and enter the codes.

Hi there,

Finally got it downgraded to 2.7. Many thanks to all of you. The problem was that I did not type in the exactly file name of the downloaded Bitesms file to my iphone when typing "dkpg -i ....". Will try another set tomorrow.

In fact, I noticed that my colleague's set that the Bitesms app is installed at "stack" "Application" - strange? Anyway, he got his set downgraded as well.

Once again, a big thank you to Davidgary and others.

Cheers

The instructions works well. Hanxz just did it 2 days ago and it works. I know why you got it wrong. You cannot input the codes all at once as per your screenshot. Refer below.

1) Keyin:su root. Press Return
2) password:alpine. Press Return
type:dpkg -i /var/root/biteSMS_2.7.deb. Press Return.
Installation will start.

U guys are missing a lot of things by using the old BiteSMS. The new version have Quick Compose and Quick Reply (which 2 features that i'm addicted to) and the best part, cost just a fraction from iRealSMS.

But thats just my own preferences.

7. Forward SMS Capabilities | JB

If you are jailbroken, you can get enhanced SMS features such as SMS Forwarding by using the biteSMS which you can download via Cydia. Full list of features are available here. It is a free app. Just make sure you select the option to 'Send SMS Messages via: Mobile Carrier' (which is your the local telco carrier you are using).

Other Applications to forward sms : SMSTool, iRealQuickSMS, iRealSMS

Seems like those who are trying to install bitesms 2.7 has so much of problems. Here's a proper revised instructions.

1) Download the deb file via this link: http://www.savefile.com/files/2003869
- your downloaded file will be bitesms_2.7.deb.html. Delete the "html" and your final file name is bitesms_2.7.deb
2) Download MobileTerminal from Cydia
3) Download DiskAid to your Desktophttp://www.digidna.net/diskaid/
4) Launch DiskAid and select root folder(bottom left of DiskAid application)
5) Use Copy to Device and upload the deb file to /var/root/
6) Use Mobile Terminal via iPhone to key in the codes. (Make sure there's a space between dpkg<space>-i)
a) Keyin:su root
b) Press Return
c) password:alpine
d) Press Return
e) type:dpkg -i /var/root/bitesms_2.7.deb
f) Press Return.
g) Installation will start.

Restart iPhone after intallation completed.

*install gUIcache from cydia if biteSMS icon does not appear on screen.
*
At step (E)

Take note bout the space after -i

dpkg<space>-i<space>/var/root/bitesms_2.7.deb

That's the problem i had, after checking every step closely and figured out that little mistake i did.

Cheers.

BiteSMS 2.7 is free and the reason you can't get it to work is simple this. Select the option to 'Send SMS Messages via: Mobile Carrier' (which is your the local telco carrier you are using). Done.

If you follow the iPhone 3G[S] Guided Tour on youtube or other video streaming sites, there's a mention of forwarding messages. It will also be available for iPhone 3G via the iPhone OS v3.0 update that will be released on the 17 June 2009.

Well, you can email them first on the issue you're facing and see what solutions they can provide. Other than that, there's not much help we can help you as licensing is between you and the company.

Cheers

Guys,

I upgraded to the latest version of BiteSMS and lost the QuickCompose option unless if I switch my default sms app to Bite.
Previously, could there was no need for this and could still use the volume button for Quick Compose.

Anyone else experienced this and what would be the workaround?

Thanks in advance.

Do not discuss, distribute, or link to pirated software, pornography or any other material which is prohibited by any Malaysian law.

The above rules are non-exhaustive. Breach of any rules will result in a temporary suspension of your account which includes all posting privileges and PM access. Multiple breaches may result in permanent suspension of your account.

You're in this forum since 2006, you should know the rules by now. I reckon you did not read the LYN rules after all these years. Anyway, do read up. thank you

both has pros and cons.

i prefer biteSMS for its message delay feature and simple ui. irealsms is slightly more flashy, but takes time to load and lacks things bite has

Guys, I restored my phone to firmware 3.1.3 thereafter jb. Previously before the upgrade to 3.1.3, I was happily using bitesms as my msging tool. However after restoring my phone and jb, silly me not having backup before that, whn I downloaded bitesms, I can't use it as they claimed I need to purchase credit to proceed. I've used bitesms for quite a long time and I can't remember whether I came across such issue when I first started. Anyone can advise me what to do to overcome the credit issue?
Thanks in advance.

Check your biteSMS settings. Issit set to send messages via carrier or biteSMS network?

It should be set to carrier.
