my 2 cents:

i was an EB user before (like a year). tried switching to d'addario because the EB i was using was out of stock. never looked back. why?

1. d'addario is somewhat more twangy when fresh. but as it stretched out, it begins to get warmer. it gets even warmer when it has aged (like a month). my NOT LP guitar can sound almost as warm as an LP.  thumbup.gif
2. EB rust faster than d'addario, in my experience.
3. never owned a fixed bridge guitar, from what i read, EB is not really good on tremolo bridges.
4. d'addario is easier to find, available at almost all guitar shops.
5. colour coded ball-end.  brows.gif

1 - Woah, what guitar you using?
2 - D'addario rust faster according to the majority of ppl's comment in this post.
3 - My lp dont have tremolo. and i guess that you're strat user.
4 - It's because D'addario is more affordable
5 - Nth special with that, the quality of sound is more crucial.

I used EBs in my early days of guitaring...... But I find that for a struggling student, EBs are BAD because they snap like dry twigs and have to keep changing them. This was back when I was using my crap strat. I switched to a few different brands, but settled down with Dunlop (They can last FOREVER and sound great) for my Fixed Bridge LPs, and D'Addarios for my Trem guitars. I find the D'As stretch better, while Dunlops have greater "meat" in them.

I WILL be switching to Dunlops for my Razorback once the current strings wears out, and judging from them now, should be anytime soon.

i have never had a EB string break on me, but that could be cos i used to use 11's alot...now using more 10's...yet they dont break.

i would guess the breakage is due to something not filed down properly on the lp-100?

I have three electric guitars in the past which two of them are strats copy and the other was an LP Custom...

I used to switch from one string brand to another including the stoopid non-rust colored coded ball end by a brand I also cant remember...purchase it for RM50 that time and it sucks big time....

I settled for EB 10-46 on the LP, DA 13-56 on a strat and the other one held a EB 11-56 gauges....

LP mainly use for metalling around, while the strat with EB 11 i use mainly for playing rock loves songs which involves fast action...the 13 DA i solely reserved for hendrix and SRV type songs which is not that fast but certainly needs alot of fat sound....

in my early days, i used to love 8 and 9 gauges because it was easy to play and hate them because it was easy also to break them after a month or so fitted...crazy bends are prone to be the reason behind it...

Ironically, I never broke a string on my RR3, using .009 DAs........ I just change them after 3-4 month after heavy playing.....
And I really like to abuse the trem. ALOT. Still stayed in tact after that AND after alot of bends.

1. i guess this point depends on guitars and pickups. my guitar and pickup is pretty rare.
2. this point depends on how you care for your strings and the amount of play time. mileage varies.
3. i'm using FR.
4. EB is cheaper than d'addario from my price list.
5. it's a pretty cool feature considering a lot of guitar techs recommend d'addario for FR bridges. i'd say it's a plus thumbup.gif .

haha....it's still the same guitar. the eq5 is pretty sweet and versatile. i'm happy with my d'addario .009 at the moment. any particular reason why a 24.75" scale needs to be strung with 0.010 strings? i'm just too lazy to reset the bridge.

cos 24.75" with 009 just feels bad.
its like using 008 on a 25.5" scale.

i dunno why ppl are scared to go 10?
i had a friend who was using 9 for so long, i convinced him to go 10.
his first comment, not much difference in tension, but more sustain and tone.
that was also on a 24.75" floating bridge guitar.

yea, i got something for those short scale floating bridge guitars, still looking for the right one.
i just realised kerry king signature, the highest end one he uses is short scale, while the lower ones are 25.5.

and his new warlock signature is very tempting tongue.gif

i think either u or myself is getting mixed up. that shadow is 25.5"(more common FR guitar) similar to RGs IIRC(i remember measuring it at some point). i've never played a 24.75" guitar before. 24.75" is your FR kramer, right? i also remember asking u what difference does a 24.75" scale makes. rclxub.gif

u sure its 25.5? hmm i think that was my old charvel then.
maybe thats why i also got rid of the shadow tongue.gif

some 80s kramers and charvels (both US and jap) had 24.75" scale, just not easy to find nowadays.
and of cos the dimebag and now i know the kerry king, just shitass expensive.

floyd rose and 24.75" - the way its meant to be tongue.gif

and makes a big big difference in feel and tone.
