I'm using a 2007 Mitsubishi Triton and yes the rear cabin is huge... almost the same as my 1990 Mitsubishi Galant. However, the price is around RM 80k used.

For RM 60k, u can opt for the Mitsubishi Triton Lite which is a 4x2. Everything same as full-spec Triton except engine is of older design, no turbo, no RPM meter, no FC display and available in manual gearbox only.

One thing l like though... it shares the same rim offset as 2003 Mitsubishi Airtrek, so plenty of rim upgrades with any 5 x 114.3 spec.

as for lite version, i read in some reviews ..they say the 0-100kph is around 25 seconds to 30 seconds..the actual duration is not given by the manufacturer..so i was wondering how much power it has when overtaking in normal roads...might be dangerous

imo, i don't really see the point of buying the triton lite.
you need 4x4 tranny for construction site / estate. you need the extra 'uumph' in turbo for highway ride.
for urban jungle? but then again, aren't the auto tranny is more practical in town?
perhaps, for 'kampung ride' / gravel roads with some load to carry. the leaf spring rear suspension suit it. hmm.gif

TS, within your budget, i suggest you look for toyota hilux sr turbo or the newer hilux commonrail thumbup.gif
the hilux sr turbo ride is of course a bit harsh compared to the ranger, frontier, triton or the new dmax but easily the most reliable workhorse of the lot.
in toyota hilux commonrail you get the best of both world; refreshing cabin and good ride for long distance + reliable.
it had been around longer than the triton and the new ford ranger. so, the 2nd hand one should almost fit into your budget.
i used to the drive the hilux commonrail and frontier back in my hometown. frontier is more stable at high speed but built quality isn't something to shout about.

if money wasn't an objection, the new navara or the triton 3.2(as the 2.5 triton lack the smoothness) will be a good buy.
too bad we don't get the 3.0 hilux commonrail here sweat.gif

as for the maintenance, most tdi engine share the same concept of robust diesel engine + turbo maintenance.
doesn't differ much from another.

2 be perfectly honest.. none of these pickups r comfortable enough 4 long journeys.. i have sat in lots of pickups over the yrs on long journeys, n i hated every single one of em.. true that the newer ones r better these days.. but given the choice, i wouldnt wanna take either for long journeys sweat.gif

but he is comparing between the pickups sweat.gif
triton should be the most comfy drive among the listed.. but tahts what i heard.. never own nor sit in one of them except hilux which is quite okay for me

yeah.. i think i agree wit u.. in terms of comfort, triton's the best amongst all the pickup trucks.. but still it is harsh n very bouncy 4 me..

considering that most of those double cab pickup is on rigid bodyframe and leaf spring suspension at the rear(for load carrying purposes), we can't expect much.
compare to the good good ol' days of bj-40s, the new hilux, triton and navara are a world apart in term of ride comfort.
perhaps, monocoque body frame is the answer. unsure.gif

btw, the triton comes 2nd to navara in term of comforts and even the amount of body roll. i already whacked both of em in the corners during their initial launch tongue.gif those extra hp and torque from the navara doesn't differ that much in real world performance compared to the triton 3.2. the 6 speed manual tranny should suit the navara a lot better hmm.gif
interior wise, the triton is more refreshing.
sitting inside the spartan style cabin of navara remind you of it's nature; a double cab pickup truck smile.gif

and there is this after market suspension setup that will help in term of ride comfort too!

both the navara n the triton 3.2 offers good performance (4 a pickup truck that is).. n i think i agree wit yngwie, that if both of these r offered wit a 6 speed manual, it would be much much better.. especially the triton, coz the autobox in that has only 4 speeds..

in terms of FC between the triton 3.2 n the navara, the navara's better..

Thailand get the 6 speed manual navara. ETCM still selling the older frontier for manual nissan d-cab in malaysia
UK too, get the 3.0 hilux turbo.
btw, the smaller displacement in navara; albeit bigger engine output translated into cheaper rad tax. thus give bigger
bang for bucks brows.gif

TS, made up your mind and get the hilux commonrail. it fits into your budget cool2.gif

hi,

i'm also looking for a 4wd.

Between Triton and Hilux, I would go for Hilux. Coz Hilux resale value better.

But if I compare hilux and navara I'm not sure which one is better.

Navara cost 10k more but comes with leather seat and more power.

My friend also own hilux informed that nissan diesel engine technology not so good as toyota.

anyone can confirm this?

if you want something on par with the navara, look for hilux 3.0. but just like the navara 6 speed manual,
it's may not available in malaysia.....yet!
my uncle's older hilux sr turbo engine is still working fine up to now, while his newer frontier sometimes
'coughing' under certain situation.... sweat.gif

well, exterior is fine but the interior is too spartan to my liking. boxy interior is past.
the triton beat it hands down here but the navara 2.5 with over 400nm of torque dwarfed
the bigger displacement 3.2 triton!

I don't know about the Hilux 3.0 but i've sat on a Fortuner 3.0 diesel turbo (Brunei registered) b4. So much more powerful than our 2.5 Hilux, which is rather underpowered during pickup. I actually floored the gas pedal and it just isn't going no where. The older SR Turbo felt more livelier. Looking forward to drive a Navara one day. 174hp and 400nm flex.gif

of course 2.5 hilux is not as good on the tarmac as it was off-road. but you should try any
modded hilux 2.5 sr turbo. brows.gif
else, the current 2.5 ford ranger with vgt turbo.
perhaps, we should create a new thread for 4wd enthusiast. i will put it up once the resources / research is done. smile.gif
