then wad the diff between APR TAME program and MIAT aircraft maintenance diploma/degree ?  rclxub.gif both got OJT arranged

OJT or not. MIAT does not have ATO status yet. Hence, as MIAT's graduate, you need to have 5 years of experience in the field when you submit for your license application. As compared to APR grad, they only need 2 as they've got ATO status now.

yes, tak ada. but as miat student, the subjects that we learn during our semesters are pretty much right about the same as exam module.

as an example, i'm on 'old' diploma which is Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Technology in Avionics. all subjects in my course are pretty much based on old Section L module if i'm not mistaken. i might be wrong in this tho sweat.gif .

anyway, if you're asking whether while doing diploma or degree in miat you can take exam module from dca? yes, you can. if miat has got an ATO status you can take exam as MIAT student through MIAT QA. right now MIAT is not an ATO. those who can't wait and want to go for 5 years long route can take exam module from dca as an outsider (no one have done this as far as i know)

but , twinning programme? no.

you can PM me on facebook once you do make decision on taking those special course. i'm interested if time does permit. i don't have holiday at all as i do a short one month or one week training during those time tongue.gif.

anyway, to those who are intersted with MIAT, here is an update. it's an internal memo. if anyone from MIAT thinks it's not appropriate to put up this memo here please PM me to take it down.

To : All Staff and Students
From : Section Head, Quality Assurance
CC : Head of Campus / Accountable Managemer UniKL MIAT
Date : 28 March 2012
Subject : DCAE Part 66 Module Examination Status

___________________________________________________________

With regard to the above subject, the Dean, Section Head Quality Assurance and Head Examination Unit had met DCA Malaysia on 22 February 2012 to discuss the issue of UniKL MIAT conducting DCAM Part 66 examination on behalf of DCA Malaysia. UniKL MIAT was advised to submit the response to the findings on the MTOE which was submitted ealier on 1 August 2011 the matter can be considered.
Section Head Quality Assurance has since submitted the response required on 12 March 2012 to be evaluated by DCA Malaysia.

As of status now, we are waiting the feedback from DCA Malaysia regarding the response on the revised MTOE. Quality Assurance will inform all staff and students of any new information with ragard to the above matter.

We hopes this memo clarifies all issues regarding the above subject.

Thank you and please be informed.
my advice? don't take this as the top reference for you to enroll to MIAT. it took them ages to even come out with this memo. god knows how long it's gona take to finally resolve it rclxub.gif .

but, those MIAT students and also MIAT grad who are waiting for MIAT to conduct this exam, please pray harder and harder and hopefully they can resolve this issue ASAP.

It is good to know that they have re-submitted. Now a matter of time when DCA will audit and grant the approval.
Bigger question would be, how they would integrate the Part 66 modules and exams , comply with the live aircraft requirements and the students be eligible for the grant of AML(Engineer).
Easiest way is to finish up the theory and exams then passing out with a Diploma & Certificate of Completion, get a 'job'and get the live aircraft experience 'elsewhere' on your own expense..

Hy guys,

i want to ask something. My brother has finished diploma in mekatronik from polytech. Now he is planning to start for degree in aircraft engineering in MIAT.(he juz got reply that he is already accepted).
So, how many years would it require to compllete the studies? and also how many years will need b4 can obtain the LAME licence?
Hope some1 can exlpain as he get diffrent2 answer from his friends.
TQ
*
Hello there. first of all, congrats to your brother rclxms.gif .

anyway, the duration of his study can be seen in 2 ways.

1. Degree duration.
2. Duration to obtain license.

1. Degree duration :
take the BACHELOR OF AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (HONS) MECHANICAL for example link

-it will take him 4 years to get the degree.

2. Duration to obtain license :
tihs one on the other hand it's a whole lot different story. there are 2 different views here depend on what is going to happen to MIAT in the next 6-8 months.

a) View no. 1 : if miat is just what it is right now which is, NOT AN Approved Training Organisation, it will take your brother 4 years(degree+taking exam as an outsider via DCA)+5 years(to gain aircraft experience) before he gets his LWTR (License Without Type Rating)

b) View no. 2 : if miat can get the ATO status in the next 6-8 months or in 4 years your brother is going to be there, it will take him 4 years(degree+taking exam as an ATO candidate)+2 years(working experience in the aviation maintenance field before he gets his LWTR.

I suggest you ask him to read a lot about the DCA Part 66, EASA Part 66, and etc. all of the details from duration, subjects, modules, and etc.

if i were him, i will use his diploma right now and join any airlines/chartered flight/helicopters/flying school companies as their low level technician and while working, he study on his own to complete all 12 modules (for B2 license) and after complete all required modules for the license he's going to apply for and after 5 years within the company, he'll then submit for his LWTR.

i might be wrong in any info here, do correct me. thanks

You can always take EASA PART 66 EXAM from CAA UK. And by this time next year it is possible to complete 12 modules (avionics) if you take 2 modules a month. How far can you reach to become an LAE as a self starter candidate is unknown lah.

Yes. For a start, can those 30-40 days of the course duration can be counted to our 2 years/5 years working experience?

to become an LAE. you need to take license. professional license. the License in Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. google it to know more.

what can i say is, with your degree and everything and you really want to be come an LAE. you need at least 2-3 years before getting yourself an LWTR without the type rating. this of course if you join any approved maintenance school. if you join non approve or taking the exam yourself, the numbers will be 5-6 years before you can get the LWTR.

it can be done nod.gif

hi guys,

I will be undergone an OJT at MAS Subang starting this 21st of January for 6 months.

I would like to at least prepare myself with some basic tools like torchlight and magnetized screw drivers.

My lecturer said MAS is a bit strict in this area where some cap ayam brand is not allowed. He suggested to us to buy Kennedy brand screwdrivers and etc.

Is any of you guys know where can I get them? Sir Jazzy?

Got the pocket torchlight from Ace Hardware for RM80++. Checked at Ace Hardware Midvalley, i couldn't find any Kennedy brand screwdrivers tho sweat.gif

i'm always amazed by jazzy's dedication answering the same question since my first silly question back in the end of 2010 biggrin.gif

MIAT students like me should read this thread more often now that we've lost our dearest Mr. Hyder to some college in Pengkalan Chepa. just to keep us up to date with what's happening in the industry. icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(jazzy939 @ Jun 6 2013, 09:44 AM)
The only time when the term 'Frozen license' was used when DCA Malaysia was still using BCAR Section L.
It was for MIAT's license programme. Their Diploma programme was paired with Section L, after completion of their diploma programme, within 6 months the eligible students was on OJT and sit for DCA's written and subsequently oral exam.
Those who passed were on 'Frozen License' until they completed a 2 year live aircraft experience, submit their work schedule to DCA and if accepted, only then their license will be issued.
As you can see it was only for MIAT's training programme in which MIAT was an ATO under AN85.
Since Part 66 the term 'Frozen License' was no longer used.

A certificate of completion of your Part 66 modules is no where near a license as you must:
1. complete your minimum of 2 years LIVE aircraft experience
2. assessed by an Approved Assessor
3. recommended by the Assessor to the Regulatory Body to be grant the Part 66 license.

This is the path that a Part 66 candidate has to take and I don't see any possibilities of a 'Frozen License'. This need not be confused by the similar term used for the pilots.

Please no more confusion and don't let any establishment pull a fast one on this. biggrin.gif
