" I consider shmups to be the last real classic game genre still alive - games in which score, skill, technique, replayability, and finely honed 2-dimensional gameplay are all-important.

Shmups can be picked up for 10 minutes, and enjoyed fully in that space of time. They can literally last for decades - I'm still trying to complete Flying Shark today. Perfect for modern busy lifestyles I reckon - a short, intense burst of pure gameplay. But they're often severely misunderstood by today's gamers ("repetitive, easy to credit feed to the end, all you do is shoot!"). Well, their loss!" ~ malc

This is a thread dedicated to fellow shmups enthusiasts and hope all the future shmups news will come here. "The Will to Fabricate" is the title to one of my favorite, Psyvariar 2 (Arcace, DC & PS2).

Apparently DUX is a European style shmups.. something like X2 for the PS1, not really my type of game after further research. But hey, who knows, I like ducks biggrin.gif

I remember one on the pc eNGINE...the one where we control a robot and we can power the robot up so his fire power will get bigger.

Dun remember the name though.

Horizontal or vertical? If hori is it Side Arms, Macross 2036 or Lords of Thunder? If vertical is it Spriggan? I don't really have too much knowledge on PCE shmups as I'm very late to the scene blush.gif

If you have a chance to play Hyper Duel for the Sega Saturn , its worth picking up as well.

Damn I dont have a Xbox360, but I think it would be worth while to pick those shooters up for collection purposes though.

I first bought a 360 just for the purpose of playing Senko no Ronde smile.gif With so many more shmups coming out I see no reason why not getting one.

Hyper Duel is a bit over my budget.. I don't like how you must not shoot to recharge your shots

I've always loved Donpachi during the PSX days. The combo inclusion with the game feels really cool and epic. Much like a fighter game. biggrin.gif
