I've been wondering , do you buy and read our local novels?
If you do , what do you think of them?
And if you're not , please state why.
Let's discuss.

I don't read Malaysian novels. Unless compulsory by school.

As for Panas Salju, it started in secondary school few years ago. So those who left school more than 5 years ago may not have had it in their syllabus. I myself forced to read this book as I am giving BM tuition to form1-5 students laugh.gif

The only current author worth reading is Ramlee Awang Murshid. He's had unbelievable work so far. Hatiku di Harujuku, Bagaikan Puteri, Tombiruo et al, all are great books, some of my favourites ever! Ramlee Awang Murshid is original, is very detail-oriented and fresh.

But then again, stuff like Salina - A Samad Said, Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan - Shahnon Ahmad, are classic Malay novels. These books just stand the test of time!

I see.
So what do you think of Malaysian novels after you read them?
Are they worth to read or not? smile.gif

I suggest you look for Ramlee Awang Murshid's works. Definitely will not fit in any of your aforementioned typical Malay novel storyline.

I don't read msian novels nowadays. Last novel I read was when I was in form 1 or form 2. and now I'm already 21.

So the one I remembered was lamia amal who wrote donia, waja. yeah not recognizable I know.It was written in early 90.

I used to read the novels that won literary prize in msia because it was in library but I can't remember the titles. mostly very serious topic with very difficult words, heavy novels you know with poverty and struggling in life background.

oh well, but I'm afraid of buying another malaysian novel and find out it's not good.

Thats quite true that most Malaysians novels are cliche in terms of the storyline.
But as mentioned before , writers like Ramlee Awang Murshid and A. Samad Said really write a good and different stories though. smile.gif

Oh , you can try Salina by Datuk A. Samad Said , Bagaikan Puteri by Ramlee Awang Murshid or Ayat - Ayat Cinta (Malaysian Version) by Habibburrahman El Shirazy. biggrin.gif

Ayat - Ayat Cinta will cost you around RM 30 I think , but its worth reading. smile.gif

And Siri Tiga Penyiasat is awesome , but I never read that yet. Grrr! laugh.gif
