I've been wondering , do you buy and read our local novels? If you do , what do you think of them? And if you're not , please state why. Let's discuss.

QUOTE(zenwell @ Jan 30 2009, 12:17 PM) I don't read Malaysian novels. Unless compulsory by school. As for Panas Salju, it started in secondary school few years ago. So those who left school more than 5 years ago may not have had it in their syllabus. I myself forced to read this book as I am giving BM tuition to form1-5 students I see. So what do you think of Malaysian novels after you read them? Are they worth to read or not? QUOTE(budakjahat @ Feb 4 2009, 04:37 PM) The only current author worth reading is Ramlee Awang Murshid. He's had unbelievable work so far. Hatiku di Harujuku, Bagaikan Puteri, Tombiruo et al, all are great books, some of my favourites ever! Ramlee Awang Murshid is original, is very detail-oriented and fresh. But then again, stuff like Salina - A Samad Said, Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan - Shahnon Ahmad, are classic Malay novels. These books just stand the test of time! I love Salina so much!

Thats quite true that most Malaysians novels are cliche in terms of the storyline. But as mentioned before , writers like Ramlee Awang Murshid and A. Samad Said really write a good and different stories though. This post has been edited by Massa: Feb 13 2009, 04:35 AM

Oh , you can try Salina by Datuk A. Samad Said , Bagaikan Puteri by Ramlee Awang Murshid or Ayat - Ayat Cinta (Malaysian Version) by Habibburrahman El Shirazy. Ayat - Ayat Cinta will cost you around RM 30 I think , but its worth reading. And Siri Tiga Penyiasat is awesome , but I never read that yet. Grrr!

QUOTE(lunalovegood @ Feb 20 2009, 10:17 AM) i use to read those translated detective novels when i was a kid. "siri hadi", "siri salma", "5 sekawan", "siri tiga penyiasat" etc. my parents used those to keep us quiet. haha Hehe. Thats kinda sweet experience. So at the same time , you have read a lot of Malaysian books too.
