The only current author worth reading is Ramlee Awang Murshid. He's had unbelievable work so far. Hatiku di Harujuku, Bagaikan Puteri, Tombiruo et al, all are great books, some of my favourites ever! Ramlee Awang Murshid is original, is very detail-oriented and fresh.

But then again, stuff like Salina - A Samad Said, Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan - Shahnon Ahmad, are classic Malay novels. These books just stand the test of time!

yeah i like Salina too. Ermm dunno much about Malaysian novel but does that Novel Cinta also counted in this topic?

Malaysian typical love novel: Rich family, jealousy, Man/girl must be Mixed one la (kawin campur konon), character work as manager or boss.. bla.. bla.. bla..

I suggest you look for Ramlee Awang Murshid's works. Definitely will not fit in any of your aforementioned typical Malay novel storyline.
