My experience with the cam settings is.....
If u wanna do macro, use the widest aperture possible, so try to use f/2.0.
Then move ur cam as close as possible to the subject.
At f/2.0, ur minimum focus distance is 1cm, so u can get really really close.

For the bokeh (blur) effects, go to A mode (use f/2.0 for the best bokeh effects).
U need to play around with the manual focus for the best results.
AF sometimes can produce similar effects, but most of the time it does not focus on the thing u want.

To shoot dripping water, u need a fast shutter speed.
For me, I will go into S mode.
To freeze dripping water, u will probably need a shutter speed of 1/500s or above.
Ur shots might become dark at this kind of shutter speeds.
So u can either try to do it in ample lighting (outdoors), or bump up ur ISO which introduces noise.

Hope this helps in your cause wink.gif

Try firing the flash too. It 'freezes' the motion of the water so you get well-exposed droplets icon_idea.gif

Just got my LX3 from friend who COD with iamsobloodysick. I would say the camera is superb not only in terms of quality but also the appearance. My fellow girl friends are even attracted by this camera. Haha..

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but the first two pictures are badly out of focus.
And while I like the shiny water droplets, the random bright spots spoil the shot sad.gif

hi joyy! no prob, how can i improved more on the 1st n 2nd pic more? today is my first outing wif this camera and i think ive taken bout 800 pics lol but mostly all really sucky as i was tryin different settings for each shots. stil alot more training needed....

also there are alot of settings in the menu setting which i do not understand, and ive gone thru the manual but there dun really explain it, for example :

AF MODE - there is like 6 options in it, what is the usage for them?

PRE AF - wat is this?

AF/AE LOCK

AF Assist Lamp

---------------------------------------------------

At the lens area, there is 3 buttons which is MF , AF (with a flower) and AF. when should i be using tis at what type of enviroments? So far i been using the AF for near shots... as it seems giving me clearer focus on the object. also i was a complete failure when tryin to capture some pics during valentine dinner wif my gf jz now, all the pics are like very blurry and when i try to use flash the whole pic become very dull. any advice at wat setting i should be using during nite? sorry for so many questions, and thanks for any help given!

When ambient lighting gets bad, the camera might fire off an AF assist lamp to help with autofocusing.
For the closeup shots, maybe you could switch to Macro mode(The AF with the flower biggrin.gif) for closer focusing? And try not to move the camera around too much after it has already focused on the subject, or the final result could be out of focused shots. icon_idea.gif

1st shot: focus a bit soft, should focus a bit further.

3rd shot: Really nice~! I like the sparkle on the water droplets.
But the composition needs a bit of tweaking.

I find the manual focus in LX3 is really good. The best thing is that there's a magnified area in the middle of the screen to let you check where the camera is focusing on. I would say it allows you a deadly focus. That's really stunning! I love my LX3!

This is a shot taken with iA and AF (Macro aka "the flower"). I was stunned when I saw that so many details can be captured!

Do you guys always use the "dynamic" instead of "standard" in the film setting?

By the way, I have tried my lucks on the night sky. The picture was taken at light polluted football field. So, don't expect very good result.

From left to right, you can see Canis Major and Orion. The brightest star in the photo is Sirius (Dog star) which belongs to the Canis Major. You can even see the Great Orion Nebula when you zoom in this photo.

After looking at the EXIF file, I just noticed that my LX3 is running on the v1 firmware....

Just bought one today... RM1580 from Boeing Photo in Sg Wang. Really like the fella service. Bought an Olympus Tough from him too last month.

Package include SP, Toshiba 4GB SDHC and pouch. Really find it hard to travel down to Kajang to COD for RM30 cheaper. I went to Bintang Maju to enquire thanks to a forumer advise, but too bad the girl he meant wasnt there. The sales personnel all seem lcly like that. I went back to my regular shop. Better service is my priority.
