how to hack nokia maps for 5800 ?
the garmin on the first page does not support touch system....
*
Please refrain in asking for hacks or warez. This is not the place to do that. Do some Googling yourself and research. You can also check out the previous versions of this thread.

Garmin has not issued an official update to support S60v5, again do some research and you will find instructions on how best to get Garmin XT working on the 5800. See earlier versions of this thread too. There were instructions given and explanations too if I remember correctly.

Or if you truly are lazy, try this website: http://mytechnews.info

2 software i waited most:

1. native garmin support for 5800
2. quickoffice for our tube (enable version)

as for myphone, after try it, i not really like it. haha
*
I think those 2 sw are the ones I would put at the top of my list too. I'm very curious about all the hype over Myphone....the 5800 is a different beast altogether but here we are trying to emulate the iPhone...It's like having a Perodua MyVi and then changing the badge and looks to make it look like the Toyota equivalent. Want an iPhone, get the iPhone, that's my opinion anyway.

Instead we should be rooting for S60v5 to garner enough interest worldwide so that we get better software for our 5800.

just wondering here...how member here determine the screen protector is good or not? I'm a little noob on this things and i get mine for free from the phone shop when i purchace the phone with them...
huh...i doubt it is a good 1...
*
Well there are very discerning users here and some will be willing to pay good $$$ for quality screen protectors. I'm not really one of those, I just used the one that was given to me by the seller. Good screen protectors though should have these characteristics:

1. Highly scratch resistant over prolonged usage i.e. if you use handwriting as an input method for example, you'd most likely write in the same area of the screen repeatedly. Over time, that area will have scratches.

2. Can be reused and washed. Important as I think overtime the screen protector itself gets "grimy" with oils and stuff that even cleaning with a cloth won't get rid off.

3. Reduces glare and increases visibility.

The above are my criteria, so don't take it as the gospel truth.

*
Yes. NCC people will ask you just to leave the phone. Battery, memory card and SIM card you keep, even the battery cover and stylus you keep.

Ooops, this was the reply to the post asking whether he/she should remove whatever when sending phone to NCC.

By right sim card yes but the mem card is a part of the package of the phone..
*
True but they do not need the memory card for them to repair the earpiece. I sent mine and was asked to remove everything except for the phone itself. I think they do not want to get blamed should anything happen to the memory card. Makes sense to me as we normally have tons of personal stuff stored in the memory card i.e. remember Edison and his lappie?

Just for earpiece prob maybe so its a simple hardware re-allignment.
*
Yes, for earpiece problem, although I do not see any reason for a memory card or SIM for other problems too as I am sure the NCC fellas have sim and memory cards readilly available for testing. Battery maybe not for all cases, probably make sense to leave the battery if it's a power related issue tongue.gif Anyway let's hope the 5800 major problems stop at the earpiece. Still not happy about the casing fit that allows light leakage though but for now still acceptable.

Yeah exactly but you have to remember for this phone's capability i recon its quite cheap. Besides the plastiky feel i have nothing else to complain, as for the light leakage on the top right of the screen i'd say nokia's insulation is rather redundant. You should open and see on your own. I saw it when i was DIY-ing my earpiece. The front camera and the prox meter are able to move as they are extended from the mainboard, thus leading to light leakage frm the back LED as those two parts are not fixed to be permanent position under the case. It get locked in position when you close shut the front case, light lrakage can still DIY but it might take some time, as for me i dont really bother bout it nymore bro nod.gif
*
Agreed, I don't really look at the light leakage anymore too. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with the phone even with the minor software glitches every now and then. I use is as a GPS just the other day and was well satisfied (I even bought a car charger for this as GPS drains the battery in no time flat). As for all the other functions, so far so good, no complaints. thumbup.gif

i m quality control guy, from human eyes pespective, if u look at the defect every day u will find it very obivious. Just leave it along and dont look at it. Trust me u will feel better. biggrin.gif if it does not affect the form, fit , function of the product with small gap is still accepted for me.
*
I submit to your experience and shall refrain from looking at the defects notworthy.gif Anyways, like I said, I'm a very happy 5800 owner thumbup.gif

Just went to NCC at Bangsar... they only start operating at 1.30pm =.=
30mins too early  doh.gif  All the lights and all off and only 2 workers reading newspaper there lol.
Lucky it's all nearby.
*
Remember to insist they do it for you ASAP, some owners get conned by NCC fellas saying that it will take 2 days to fix. It's max a 15-30 mins job, so I reckon giving them 1 -2 hrs to fix it is more than enough time. Good luck! thumbup.gif

hey guys since bro kae7 always replies here can anyone explain to him the durability of the 5800? Its a question i dragged frm the N95 8GB thread
*
Durability as in? How well made it is? Or it's feature set?

If it's on how well made it is, check this crazy Russian test: http://www.tube5800.com/crash-test-videos-...-hell-survived/

Amazing the things people do to test stuff, I would never have thought of doing it!

Reminder for those who always use the original pouch ( hard rubber )....your tube will have 2 line on top of both corner ( Beside the front camera...so becareful....cause of in and out the tube from the pouch.... cry.gif
*
Really? Can it be removed by some plastic polish or such? Lucky I only used it for a couple of days and decided it was not worth the effort of removing the phone in and out of the pouch. Too cumbersome when trying to answer calls with only one hand free! Hmm....if that is the case maybe this should be posted up in the FP to warn other users too. hmm.gif

I tried already polish it but line still there but not so clear.... cry.gif
*
Dun worry, just ignore it like the light leakage problem, after a while you won't really care. I know you sakit hati now but trust me, ignoring it works. I'm also waiting for 5800 casing to be available in time, so can change. Until then, using your cap ayam waist pouch is better than me, I just chuck the phone in my pocket!

I have not even bothered to go to claim the songs after reading about the lousy quality of the songs i.e. some people here tried and dl songs but a lot of them in mono! Anyway, we 5800 users should petition Nokia to give us a better deal!

kawan.. go to the realplayer, disable proxy and see what happens. mine was same just now, 1st time trying uTube, then reconfigure settings at realplayer and somehow everything just works fine. So tube uses realplayer for .flv files eh? can change to any other player?

btw, what's this earpiece prob everyone talking bout? Don't really understand. Mine seems to be okay all the way.
*
Then you're one of the lucky ones. The earpiece problem is described in the FP. Basically when you receive a call, you will hear the person's voice going soft and then loud or vice versa. It's due to the contact points that are not touching the circuit board points securely or in simple terms loose contacts. It's an easily fixed problem that you can either DIY (instructions in FP) or send to NCC.

I think if you took the trouble to read our posts from V1 till now or even the FP, you would know that the RRP is RM1499 and that most of us managed to get it in the range of RM13XX to RM14XX, excluding those early buyers and also those "special" ones that manage to get it cheaper still. Cheers

Hmmm...just get problem with SMS again. I set to use memory card and once in a while when I receive message I get error saying cannot access memory card, so default back to phone memory. I was trying to access Maxis site using 3G and when I waited too long for access, I terminate the internet, at the same time I get SMS....could that be the reason? Another thing I observed, at that time 3G connection was lost and phone auto switched to GSM. Curious. Anyone else encounter this issue?

Yes I think that's what is meant. Celcom (Blue Cube) is like 1399 with bluetooth headset thrown in. It was in the papers.

From what I read it takes patience to get it done right. Also some users claim that the shield gets discolored over time but of course the lifetime warranty helps in cases like this.
