Hello Civic sifu's, anyone knows if next gen Civic will come out late this year? Rumors are aplenty on the Internet. Anyone got updated news?

Sigh. I am hoping to see this end 2010. I'm due for a car change soon and I wanna get it before GST kicks in in 2011. Hopefully come faster lah.

Guys, the more I see the discussion here, the more gatal I am to change my car. In case anyone would know, is the price of Civic fixed in all dealerships? Is it possible that some salesperson in any particular shop might be able to give additional discounts?

Another questions for you guys here, do you know what's the lead time from booking date until when the car arrives? Is it faster for 1.8 or 2.0 or certain colors? Want to find a dealership that can deliver the car the fastest.

As I know even today or tomorrow is not too late as some banks' (esp. those workaholics in Public Bank) loan officers are staying back the weekend in anticipation of last minute applications.

Also, wanna get some advice from you guys, should I get a 1.8 or 2.0? I know the "technical" differences well enough, but from a long term use perspective, are there differences? For example:
Is 2.0 really that much more powerful?
Will 2.0 use up a lot more fuel compared to 1.8 which is using a newer version of engine?
Is the 2.0 engine (plus some additional features) really worth the increase of RM 16K in price?
Will servicing be more expensive for 2.0?
How does engine reliability compares between 2.0 and 1.8?

Arghh... I am so undecided. Help!

Kahwai85, you can get much earlier if you want Sparkle, less than a month, I was told. I didn't quite like the color though as it looks somewhat purplish rather than blue. Haven't seen Titanium in real life, but CR-V seems to look pretty good in it. My fav is still the White, but difficult to take care and it's solid color instead of metallic.

Kahwai, I think those people with solid color on nice cars should go for this Teflon coating. Looks really nice and can protect the paint job.

Zero, mind sharing this with us? Is it the X-PEL film from 3M? I know that one, but it's just too expensive. Plus, wrapping car in plastic film just sounds like an awful idea.

Wah, that's quite expensive. I heard of this before, but polysilazane is a resin compound, which means it's likely an organic compound (although might be a synthetic polymer also). Won't this mean that it will slowly degrade although this is over many years?

Also, I heard 3M is not that good with heat reflection compared to Llumar or V-Kool, dunno true or not la. Plus, 3M doesn't allow Smarttag to be used. Anyone got experience?

Wow. Really, really nice. When I test drove Sylphy, the Nissan person also pushed their Sylphy that comes with a similar device as standard, they called it Sylphy Navi or something. But I really can't take Sylphy's look la, kinda feminine, so tak jadi la. Good to know that Civic can be fitted with something similar also even though need to cough up some dough.

BTW, is the supplier (i.e. Akaya) a good one? The website looks kinda dodgy, not very well done. Any idea what's the warranty?

Besides Caska from Akaya, do you happen to know what other brands are out there?

Funny you should mention this cos I just saw an ad for Civic in Thailand and they have a model that really comes with it. Looks like very nicely integrated. The CD player is actually hidden behind the screen which will slide down to allow access to CDs. Really cool.

Any chance to see some photos of this Caska in action? Wanna see how well it fits into the dashboard.

May I know when you booked?

They have to take car apart even for Connex? I thought since it's done by Honda itself, they should know how to do it correctly, rite? Any risks from stripping car to install these type of security systems?

If you scour the forums a bit, you can see a lot of people seem to think highly of paint protection rather than waxing unless you are really have plenty of time and is into DIY car care. However, if you really into DIY, everyone seems to think Meguiar's (http://www.meguiars.com.my/) is the best, but do beware, if you're not good at waxing and polishing, you might end up messing the paint job more.

However, predicament is which paint protection is better and what are the pros & cons. Is it Teflon (http://www.shinenshield.com) or Silica (http://sierraglow.com) that is better? Maybe some other people here have done it before and can help us.

Guys, anyone tried before these paint protection? Can share ideas or experience especially for Taffeta White cars?

Mine is 2.0 White coming in one week. Very excited until can't sleep and very pening to consider a few things:
1. Whether should add some security system like Cobra (salesperson pitching it since approved by Honda).
2. What paint protection to use - Sierraglow? ShineNShield? Ultra Glass Coating Neo?
3. What tint to use - Llumar? 3M? EcoTint? V-Kool?

I suggest those getting new cars do some research so that no need do last minute decision.

Anyone who got experience, do share with us.

1. Cobra is very expensive, but it's the one approved for Honda, so definitely won't void warranty and will be nicely installed. Price is a whopping RM 3660 for Civic with 360 annually. Big investment, but I think the main attraction is not only the security (GPS & GSM tracking, 24x7 operation centre etc.) but also the insurance part where they pay you if your car is stolen (besides the real insurance which is for the value of car). 2. Paid a visit to Mr. Choong and yes, he's a nice chap. The 407 I saw there was impressively done as well, very "glowy" and nice water beading. Haven't checked out ShineNShield with their Teflon coating yet. For more info: http://sierraglow.com/ and http://www.shinenshield.com/

3. V-Kool has very good heat rejection, but they use metal based compound, so there's a chance it will rust. Checked out a few and quite partial to Llumar (looks cool from outside, nice reflectivity) and EcoTint (good heat rejection, but no metal). Haven't checked out 3M and HuperOptik yet, can't find a dealer nearby my place. Thinking of doing security tint since not too big a difference in price.

1. Cobra has both GPS and GSM (using Maxis I think) tracking. GPS only is useless as the thief just need to drive to basement or tunnel or even cover the car. I think good system for ladies since carjackers in Malaysia are really the ganas type (case where Mercedes owner's hand got chopped off due to his car having fingerprint came to mind)

2. Waxing is good, but won't last long and will melt. Polishing is actually damaging to car paint since it will take off a thin layer everytime. So, for malas person like me, I think I will go for paint protection. Easy to care for.

3. I think Llumar and EcoTint are both good. I need to check out 3M, but can't find a place nearby. Anyone knows of any in SK, Puchong, Subang or Sunway?

4. Soundproof is more nice to have than essential, so I really don't think I will spend 2.2K on it la. I'm not an ICE person, but I do like that in-dash GPS thing from Caska you posted. Really cool.

Another main thing for some Civic owners is what body kit to get. The original one is of course Modulo priced at 5K plus and cheaper imitations. Some might like a Mugen kit, but it's too agressive for me. I am keeping mine in stock condition except maybe add a Civic Hybrid spoiler cos I like it being understated yet slightly sporty. There's plenty of other custom types in the market also although most are from cheaper materials.

Added on May 5, 2010, 11:53 pm1. Lucky you. but note that GPS works based on line of sight with satellite, so you must have something else to help also. Cobra do this using GSM and Captor uses RF if not mistaken. You probably know more! ;-)

2. Any color also can use paint protection so that will look like just waxed all the time. Sparkle Grey is nice color, better than just pure black IMHO cos can see the car curves and features better.

3. I can't find any shops offering Huper, where did you check out yours? I don't know about other brands, but when I asked at EcoTint, both options are available. You can tint using Ray Barrier plus another clear coat of security film OR just use their Hybrid security film. Advantage of Ray Barrier + clear security film is slightly higher heat rejection. Most other brands will offer only one layer of security film.

I am a bit err.. particular, but I want all side, front and back to have same tint color and look similar from outside. This is sometimes a problem as security tint is recommended for side windows only and for front and back windscreen, normal solar tint. So, need to find a brand which has both security and normal solar tint with same color, so that don't look odd in my eyes.

Normally, people use runner and let the SA handle it. Easier, but looks like your SA is quite crappy. If your temper is like mine, I'd really screw him. Earn my money some more wanna raise voice? How can? Don't know how long you waited, but if it's not long, I'd cancel and give the commission to someone else. I happen to know a decent SA in SK if you need, just PM me (err, for the record, I don't get commission also har.. just wanna help).

Car plate can get two ways, tender or buy when it's open. Tender ones can keep for 3 months while buy open ones can keep for 1 month. I suggest you force the SA to commit to a date. They always say they can't confirm, but they actually have an idea cos the delivery is planned months in advance. When you know the date, then you can tender a bit earlier to ensure you get the number you want.

However, if you're not particular, you can go yourself to JPJ and just buy open numbers that's available. Currently it's WTV and is nearly the end, so if you want WTV, not many choices left. If you free, go to JPJ this Fri or next Monday when the letters change to WTW, then you have more choices and can buy on the spot. But make sure you know when your car is coming la.
