I heard that Autofoam is good since it's not just dampening but also increase chassis stability and car handling. One down side is that it will spread the impact differently if accident, possibly causing higher repair damage.

*
The use of the autofoam is to fill up the hollow chasis pillar around the car. AF more on handling and chassis strenghten rather soundproof. They have few package. The ultimate package cost around RM3k+ if I remember. That is 3yrs ago. Maybe price up liau now. You need to go 2x for the AF. First instal take whole day to inject the AF. After 2week when the foam settle, you need to go again to wipe out the extra foam that spill out.

You won't feel must in daily driving after AF. So don't complain if you have no feeling. tongue.gif You will only feel it when you go extreme.

QUOTE(ub3rg33k @ May 20 2010, 12:04 AM)
Another "removable" option is using those padding like Dynamat, Sikadamp or Soundblok. They reduce sound and heat, but usually don't offer any changes to chasis reinforcement or better handling. Good thing is that they are removable and has less chance of affecting wires, mechanical parts etc. So, depends on what is the purpose.

Anyone done any of these things? Please share experience, prices and contacts.
All this pad is for soundproof. Can reduce maybe 20-30% of sound. Install around floor, door, roof, engine wall and spare tyre floor. Have few package. Full car soundproof cost RM3k+.

The most significant you notice after sounproof is, when raining. You will hear the rain noise sound reduce alot on the roof. This I recommend. thumbup.gif

Dear '06 Civic owners, anyone kind to recommend me a good service workshop around Bandar Utama or Damansara area?

I just sent my wife's civic 1.8 for service interval at 75000km and the price was RM220 for semi synthetic oil, filter, coolant and alignment.

Any suggestions for a better workshop which charges cheaper in future?

thanks
*
If your car over 3yrs, Don't bother to go honda SC. Try others workshop.

One workshop that have the same quality or better than honda SC is autosave in sunway. Cheaper.

Another question since this is only my first week driving the civic, may i know the average fuel consumption of FD 1.8?

I managed around 9.5km/L, is this ok?
*
This is perfectly normal for a NEW USER. But not the car.

Learn in a slow way. Enjoy the vroom first. tongue.gif

Bro, what do u mean by not the car?
*
FD1 won't consume that high fuel. Don't tell me it consume more than FD2. So it is not the car problem.

Don't take it so serious first when you are a new user. Familiar with your car and suit the driving habit.

Bros, anyone changed their fd wipers before? how much usually per pair cost ah? where to get cheapest but good quality one?
*
Old type no luck. Standard wiper from SC only. Cost rm45-50. Can last 1yrs only. (Forget perpcs or set)

If new type, go and get the silicon type. Expensive a bit, but last long long time.

WTA another question arh...
anybody experience foul smell, sometin like burned smell whenever you rev to 3500rpm?
i did 3 times on high ways, drove at 160kmph and the aircond come out smell...i think this is not normal...anybody to advise?
*
Pretty normal. The high temp burn the grease and some residue. It sip in through small hole by the force of the air and car.

The smell will continue have even your car few yrs old. Unless you rev more to red line to burn out the grease and residue.

RON97 + vpower ftw! =)

i heard that cars above 2.0 advisable to use RON97.

btw have u gotten the vibrating problem solve?
The vibrating is from the jam brake. Not relate to type of petrol.

I m not sure the SC is bullshit me or not with ron95. Cause I never use before till now. All the way ron97 and vpower.

So ask you guys here normally use what petrol on your civic.

Dont know is it i get used to my Civic jor.. nowaday i feel like the Civic no power geh @@.. i using D mode la, when S mode.. really powerful.. ^.^ only 2.5k odometer now, haven't reach 5k, wanna ask ho.. can i use my own Full Sync Engine Oil when i go Service? cause i saw no Outside Parts Allowed! what does the parts Terms Cover? and is it better to use Fully SynC oil then mineral?
*
If you driving in city and 5k service, it is a waste to use fullsync oil. Semi sync is more than enough.

Man, this civic are geting more expensive. I wonder is it still worth to buy.

1.8 already going to rm120k. By the time new civic cameout, maybe the price will be over rm120k. That is 2.0 price!

I would seriously consider KIA forte 2.0. With an extra cash to mod the car.

QUOTE(drgnkid @ Jun 20 2010, 12:00 AM)
If it is really the 1.8S-L, then it is not really increase in price because the standard 1.8S is still available at RM114,980.00. The 1.8S-L will be more expensive because it has certain 2.0S trimmings added. Current 2.0 price is at RM130,980.00 so the 1.8S-L is still RM10K cheaper.

Sometimes cannot blame Honda, the demand is there so they can afford to increase the price and ppl will still buy. But I believe there is a limit cos if the 1.8S is priced too close to Lancer, then I think ppl rather go for Lancer. The other competitor in this range would be the Peugeot 308 turbo but because of it's affiliation with Naza, I think ppl are a bit weary. Peugeot is a good car but too bad it is brought in under Naza.
It is their right to increase. But from what I see, they taking the advantage to make more profit from the hot selling car. How many time they have increase the price just for this gen civic. Everytime just add in some accessory and demand some increase. But the quality didn't improve. The quality is not good as previous gen civic.

Are the HM going to hurt their next new gen civic car by such fast price increasing? Would they reduce the price for new gen civic? I don't think so.

The other car maker fast catching up with more attractive price. The design and technology is getting better too.

I agree with you. Funny...I see some similarity here, do you?

Is HM headed the P1 direction in terms of taking advantage? HM is taking advantage of hot selling car whereas P1 is taking advantage of protection.

Sigh...I would like to own an FD one day but I am saddened by the way HM is overpricing their cars. Somemore it is CKD. If it is CBU, I understand la. Just hope that HM will not shoot themselves in the foot.
*
I can see the HM want to follow the toyota with one car but many kind of accessory and price.

To replace your lock, you have to go back to the honda SC to replace it. Not cheap. sweat.gif

*
Eh... I still don't see you like the 8th gen civic. You rather consent the features. If you driving car long enough, you know every new model coming will have new features.

If the new model look like shit but have new features, are you still looking for the new model? hmm.gif

Honda history have prove that.

The spare tyre look ugly and I don't think it is original. Missing the set of tool too.

But anyway, it is not so important if the the car price are cheap.

According to invisiblelim wrote later, the SC change the brake pump for him. Have you suggest to your SC to look for brake pump side?

QUOTE(gregy @ Jul 15 2010, 06:09 AM)
For any car with a properly functioning ABS, you will find that stopping on uneven roads like gravel or wet roads will actually take a longer distance than a car without ABS. Please remember that the ABS system is not meant to help you stop faster, rather it is to enable you to steer out of harm's way while braking hard, and also to help you brake in a straight line should there be water or other slippery surface.

TCS or VSA helps you stabilize your car while you're negotiating a corner or if one side of your car loses traction. However, if the system is faulty, you should have gotten a warning light on the meter panel.
A good read on ABS/TCS/VSA:
http://www.securitydriver.com/aic/stories/article-111.html
*
In real world if I not mistaken, when you jam your brake with ABS, your car should stop shorter distance than without ABS. The most easy to know your ABS is when you jam your brake hard, you can feel hard vibrate at your brake pedal. Just don't let go.

One of the VSA malfunction feel is, the VSA will lightup. And when you shift the gear to D, you will hear a knocking sound and you feel abit hard to engage.

QUOTE(gregy @ Jul 15 2010, 01:25 PM)
Sorry this is not entirely correct. If the road isn't wet, a car without ABS will allow you to lock your wheels, enabling you to stop in a shorter distance. The problem is, once stopped your car may not be facing the same direction as when you started braking lol. However, if you don't skid at all, your car will come to a screeching halt faster than if you had ABS which will catch and release the brakes at up to 15Hz, thereby prolonging the distance a bit.

This is very easy to test in the real world especially on a dirt or gravel road. Drive at about 40km/h, then slam on the brakes. Because the gravel will cause your car to slip so much it won't allow your car's tyres to dig into the sand, you'll find your brakes pulsing to a slow but secure halt. If you pull out the fuse for the ABS and try again, you'll find that by letting the wheels dig in you'll stop much faster.

The only time that ABS will help a car stop faster is on a slippery wet surface, and that's only because if without ABS your wheels will lock and you will aquaplane out of control.

As for not letting go, here's an actual exp I had some time ago. I was driving an 04' City iDSI. Coming out from Mid Valley going towards Jln Maarof, while taking the left bend on the overhead bridge (beside Maybank building), at the corner where there is a blind spot a car had just stalled. The road was slippery as it had just finished raining. Upon seeing the stalled car I hit the brakes as I was going about 70km/h. Because I was in the bend, stepping on my brakes hard caused the rear to sway out. So I countered the sway by steering the other way. I had to do this a few times cos the tail kept swinging from left to right because the front absorbers kept getting loaded. My foot was on the brakes hard, but the ABS did nothing to stabilize my car, in fact it felt as if I had no brakes! I had to release the brakes while doing the counter manouver, and only stepped hard when the car was straightening out. Missed the stalled car by inches!

The lesson learnt there is, ABS didn't save my @ss that day, *I* saved my @ss. No matter if you have ABS/TCS/VSA, all that will count for nothing if you lose traction while braking. So better drive slowly and don't be a hero lol.....
*
I didn't test the ABS on the dry road.

I did try on real world with ABS stopping and skiding. With progresive till running at 90km/hr. Pour the diesel mix with water to the road. Man, it was fun. tongue.gif With ABS, I can stop shorter distance with straight line. And I can stir to another side too to avoid the obstacle in front. Try another car (Wira) with no ABS, the distance is longer. Because of the skiding. But you can create the ABS from the non ABS car.

For your another real life experience, my experience with this is, step on the pedal not the brake. Concentrate on the steering to control the car swaying. When you get back the control of your car, jam the brake. The VSA will constanly lightup to get your car back to track if you have one. But I did try to off the VSA by take out the fuse and try this swaying. It a bit harder to control. sweat.gif
