lol...The Silmarillion alone is good enough...but if you want more details of the stories then go get the particular story...
The Hobbit in my opinion was like stories for kids...but i enjoyed it...its more of a light reading material...

if you can understand The Silmarillion then go for The Lord of the Rings...it should explain a lot about the War of the Rings in The Silmarillion.
i was thinking of getting the Children of Hurin but since i've read it in The Silmarillion i didnt really feel like buying it...would really be interested in books about the Dwarves or about Tom Bombadil...

I have the lords of the rings. Still in the 1st book but it's way better than the movie. So detailed and rich.

I just remembered I have Children of Hurin as well!

The Silmarillion was in certain ways far more epic then LotR could ever be. Who can deny the tragedy of Turin, or the love between Beren and Luthien Tinuviel? Feanor's jealousy and pride that doomed the elves, and how Earendil half-Elven finally won passage to the lands of the Gods?

ah...the romance of Beren and Luthien Tinuviel is soooooo romantic... wub.gif
but what happened to Feanor is far more a tragedy than Turin IMO...well maybe both are tragic the same...

I've read the Chinese version of LoTR. It is so well written that I can imagine the whole scene! It's damn cool!

After I read this thread, I am tempted to get myself English version collection~
