Wow , you guys got 3 books of J.R.R.Tolkien!
I only got The Silmarillion but hey , its awesome. thumbup.gif
*
lol...The Silmarillion alone is good enough...but if you want more details of the stories then go get the particular story...
The Hobbit in my opinion was like stories for kids...but i enjoyed it...its more of a light reading material...

if you can understand The Silmarillion then go for The Lord of the Rings...it should explain a lot about the War of the Rings in The Silmarillion.
i was thinking of getting the Children of Hurin but since i've read it in The Silmarillion i didnt really feel like buying it...would really be interested in books about the Dwarves or about Tom Bombadil...

The Silmarillion was in certain ways far more epic then LotR could ever be. Who can deny the tragedy of Turin, or the love between Beren and Luthien Tinuviel? Feanor's jealousy and pride that doomed the elves, and how Earendil half-Elven finally won passage to the lands of the Gods?
*
ah...the romance of Beren and Luthien Tinuviel is soooooo romantic... wub.gif
but what happened to Feanor is far more a tragedy than Turin IMO...well maybe both are tragic the same...

After I read this thread, I am tempted to get myself English version collection~

How many have read non middle earth books by Tolkien? I happened to pick up a collection of Tolkien shorts titled 'Tales from the Perilous Realm' a long time ago. I wanted it for the Bombadil stories it had, but found those to actually be poems and fairly dry and boring.

Luckily, the book also happened to contain several other stories: Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wootton Major, and Leaf by Nigel. These were great stories. Farmer Giles and his blunderbuss going after giants and dragons, Smith with his faery star, and Nigel's lifelike leaf painting all tend to get overlooked as people focus on LOTR, which is a shame really.

If you can find these books, you should pick them up for some light reading and see what Tolkien is like beyond middle earth.
*
btw...where did you get those books from...Borders?i have no time to go scout for them yet,if you know the exact location of where i could get them i might go next week to get em laugh.gif

That was a long time ago, more then 10 years back. Nowadays bookstores are only interested in selling Tolkien's LOTR and Middle Earth books.

darn...i was hoping to get more...do you think i should buy online?is it pricey?

Read and own LOTR series and finished The Hobbit awhile ago. I thought The Hobbit were a bit short to my liking. Bilbo's adventure is a walk in the park compared to Frodo's. Lol!
*
yeah...i felt that its written for children to read as a bedtime storybook...well...Sauron was still a void at that time right? laugh.gif he cant send ring wriaths out to catch bilbo yet
