Okay, I guess you should. Turning on the 3G/GSM network depletes about 4% or so after roughly 2 hours. Shouldn't be able to dry the battery flat after several hours more though. Actually SE's chargers recognizes fully charged phones and automatically switches modes to prevent overcharging, and thus you'd notice the charger is cooler after the phone's fully charged. So even you charge for extended hours after it's fully charged, I don't think it'd provide much benefit.
Probably that's the reason, as the part behind the slider shouldn't be warm at all. Yeah, I guess in your case they should really allow a 1 to 1 exchange. I really hope things would turn out well for you, good luck
